I dont think I like this... it's like every game is a JUST like a rebuy now and have become total donkaments and suckouts... it's not fair b/c single-entries force people to play smart and strategically but this is not fair for single-entry players who cannot afford the maximum buy-in... now you have to pay up to 6x the buy-in to maximize your chances...
He gives you the OPTION to buy the software which he does promote. However, his advice is free, good, and varied! I choose not to buy the software as I can't afford it, but after I build my bankroll in Hold em limit ring games, I might be able to!
TurtleKnife, what are you general strategies for beginning stages of a tournament where there are donks to the left and right of you? Do you raise with good hands? Is there a point of doing this early on since the donks will call your hands with 7 2 off suit like they were pocket queens.
@jebussaves1 Yes I play tight in the early stages. If you have opponents who call raises with 72os in the early stages, then you probably have a significant advantage at your table... so use it!
@TurtleKnife Often time those garbage cards turn into a full house it seems. Even if I hit trip Aces, I usually lose to the person who called with a 8 6 and turned it into a full house.
@jebussaves1 god... try thinking before writing.. probably you should do the same before trying to play poker... If you have trip aces.. it's impossible to lose against a full house made by 86... if he hits a full house.. yours will be bigger, obviously .:))

nice video and a good insight into this new development on fulltilt. It has the potential to be very profitable like you said but there are a lot of downsides. People will be calling a lot of weaker hands more frequently which means that as it is full tilt you will likely be sucked out on the river. However the time might be an issue as each person entering multiple entries means that hours hours and hours could be spent on just reaching near the money.
This new format is certainly is getting away from the traditional poker game that I grew up with around the kitchen table. It is great that Full Tilt is trying to please the hungry poker players. I think it as a great chance because if I fail at one table it doesnt really matter and I can just hope I don't get unlucky at the other table. Ofcourse full tilt is making this to get more players on the site and that way collect more rake from players and soforth. I'm just gonna head to one of this MTTs and give a try to one of these. It must be great. Thanks for uploading Marty ;)
The beauty of poker is in the end most everything balances itself out. Weaker players usually go early and the stronger remain. True there might be an instance of someone riding the donkey wave but that in itself is rare. This seems like a no brainer to me. Weaker & stronger players buy in more increasing the odds that the stronger player will win. Not only that, but the prize money is increased. Sign me up!
@guusknelissen I think this is just NOT going to happen very often in regular MTT poker tournaments though. > At least enough to worry about. In a 700 player ME-MTT last night I was the second last player to have entries left in play, and it wasn't even close to merging. I just don't see it as an EV issue.
Interesting business idea to get around rebuy not including a rake element, I think. Revenge seems highly unlikely in a couple thousand entry tourney if the other player genuinely was playing like a total plank and just got lucky. If it goes anything like the $3 rebuy on pokerstars, this will be unplayable with lots of boneheads throwing all their chips at the table with any hand. Better value tourney = longer blind intervals like deep stacks on pokerstars.
I think this is a great invention by full tilt. I will deffinetly be giving it a try. Also all the people saying full tilt is rigged need to go play a live game and see how much bad beats actually happen. It seems like a lot of online players think they should never lose and when they do they assume the site is rigged. One more thing is Marty, you make some great vids that have really helped my game. I have pretty much subscribed to every website you have been apart of. YOUR THE BEST!!!!
Where can I invest in FTP.What they are trying to do with this move is get much richer. There is nothing that helps the player except empty there pockets. This is a business move not to help the players enjoy themselves but to make money,Why don't they give us an address so we can just mail our money IN.
REVENGE? !!? I would never stoop so low! ....unless you consider that time my Aces push got cracked by Q3 off, flop 33Q, to kill my deep run:(.... but that really didnt bother me!?!?... although i did find myself googling his user name, hoping to find a phone # or email addy... maybe even a home address that i could send that little package to!??!..... but wait ..... Revenge may still be mine!!..... Multi-Entry Tournaments on Full Tilt Poker!!!!...and life is good again!!! Thanks TKnife!!!
I think it'll be a lot easier to bust people out if they have a huge stack in one hand and minimal in the others they might just get careless. It should make for an easier run for most of us. It could also hurt your bankroll real bad. It'll be interesting to see how this affects most people's bank rolls.
This Full Tilt creativity has been great, so many new games recently. What's next, online war? Online strip poker?
The New Multiple Entry events make $5.50-ME ($20+$2) buy-in event. To maximize your chance to win, you have to take every chance to survive a couple bad beats.
If you play, the correct strategy is to take the maximum buy-in to increase your tournament equity. The more entries you have the more chips you can have when the ITM stage is reached and/or the bigger your chips stacks will be when your positions are "Merged."
It's somewhat like a re-buy. You should not enter unless going to end.
Soon FTP will have tourneys where you can have multiple people playing on your account...ooops Sorel Mizzi beat them to that idea.
I appreciate ur vids Knife (I am both a Tourney Indicator and Omaha Indicator user), but do you have body parts in ur house? Geesh....Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs.
Poker tounaments should never seem like you buying multiple lotto tickets in order to win. This format is clearly for the weaker player in order to give them a false sense of hope of cashing in the tourny. Great business idea by Full tilt kudos to them but a poker tournament should never reward someone that got bumped out .If you get knocked out by some jerfoff dumbo playing a garbage hand thats the nature of the game we all love called poker. Remember all if you can't be good be very careful.
I Love this new style of multie entry. My favorite part of this new style of play is talking the donkey down. REVENGE is a dish best seved at the poker table. lol !!!!!!!!!!!!

Full Tilt do seem to be ahead of the game. I love this idea and Turtle knife makes some great points. For someone who loves grinding mtts I think it's a great opportunity to make some extra cash
ha ha, great idea, 4 buy-ins = 4 fees for FT quadrupling their take in one go ;0)
Great business idea !
Don't worry I'm just an old cynic, always looking for the cut and where its going.
It is a cool Idea though, and should give the solid players their edge back, Maybe FT have heard enough complaints about the bad beat / suckout ratio and finally have thought of something to redress the balance back in favour of the solid player, we'll see.
Love your vid, and their new tourney concept. but I'd rather read David Slansky's book Theory of Poker in a hot room after taking six valium than play on FT again
I'd love to play again on Full Tilt, or Poker Stars for that matter, but, Both sites took Washington State off of their list. So, since I'm a Washington State resident I cannot play on FullTilt or PokerStars, since playing poker online in Washington is a felony. (Which is RIDICULOUS, but their is little that Washington Residents can do about it until we get some reform of the Washington State Laws, which is not going to happen in the near future).
I wonder what it does to the fish to shark ratio. If many of the fishes only buy in once because they can't multitable or because that is just the kind of small mindedness that makes them fish, then you have a field of a lot of sharks who buy in as many times as allowed in order to increase their chances of merging a couple of big stacks, and some fish that you only see one or two copies of. Then you have a much tougher field than you have in normal tournaments. Interesting concept though.
I would think though that your opportunity would be greater the longer your multiple entries remained apart. If you were unfortunate to have entries merged early in a tourney, then you could be at a disadvantage. Also being separated longer allows Tournament Indicator more opportunity to collect data on more players, which is of great benefit to a newbie like myself.
I am new to the world of online poker, but I thought the sites frowned on people having multiple accounts such that they could buy multiple entries into a tourney and possibly collude with themselves. I guess they get around this with the whole merge function. If you play a solid game, it would seem to be a great opportunity to build chips, (otherwise why did the pros do it before with the multi accounts,)
Another great discovery by FTP. In the long term these formats wil give solid profiting players even more of an edge over the "blockheads" who don't know what they're doing. Of course I wouldn't doubt that blockheads will also luckbox their way to a 1st place now and again, but over a period of time, good TAG players will definitely succeed more as the idea of 3 "extra chances" will get variance back on their side, & deep runs for TAG players will have more to do with skill rather than just luck
Another great video. I like the idea of having the chance to play well enough to have 2 or 3 of your chip stacks merge. What a great bonus for playing well. I agree, I can see newer, looser players playing these games thinking their odds are better and that they can then play bad and still have a chance to win. That makes it better for us tighter players.
I really enjoy your videos. They have helped me to re-evaluate my game and I have tightened up and have become a better player.
Funny, I had a different take on this. My impression is that the METs would encourage players to focus on staying in the game, since, with multiple entries, it could be possible to cash multiple times. Even if one doesn't get at least 2 entries far enough to merge. (That's really hard!) I played the first tourney to check out how it played, and, for the most part, the donk plays were way down. There was a lot of limping, a LOT fewer all-ins, and most all-ins were valid plays. So...!
I absolutely love the fact that a wanker can double, triple himself in a tournament lol :) The tournament will be way more popular aswell, I'm gonna try this for sure. Keep doing video Marty they are so entertaining loll.. The 300 at the end is just epic, never saw that coming. Thanks
This is a very creative concept. Think of the possibility of setting up your opponets with some donkey play. Then there is the different straigidy you would use if you still have 2 enteries playing with 2 tables left. Your going to be able to test your opponets with some all in betting because your automacitlly going to be eleminated when the tables merge.
Interesting concept. I do think the "revenge" factor may be a little susceptible to the "tilt" factor, though. When you are going for revenge, I would think that the temptation to call down in a marginal situation would increase, thereby increasing your losses. I see this game as a perfect opportunity to build all the "mini-me's" to eventually merge and crush at the final table.
I think that's very interesting. I have always wondered about being able to re-enter a tourney. This looks like the ticket. Being able to enter multiple times allows you to gain a larger view of the event and employ different skills depending on the table. I just hope it is available to all buy in amounts.
An insightful take on these new tournaments lol, might hav to try them out. Sure seeking revenge can be the cause of your own downfall but as long as you stick to your game and then take advantage, this could be one of the best things going around. Coming back to take down a criticizer or donk call could be amazing :D The tourneys will also make almost need to play the max no. of entries as the ones on top near the final 10 table will have had big stacks in all entries ay.fun playin in many tho
i think the biggest advantage for good players is that we now have more information on players in the pool since we have more tables to interact with others. but i lol'd so hard when u said revenge. maybe FT should have a revenge sound effect everytime "this is sparta" situation happens. hows that for creative?
Well thought out and smooth presentation Marty. I gotta say, as I like the idea of the Multi-Entry tournament and the prize structure, I dont think the style works out too hot. There are already alot of ways for one to lose their roll, let alone buying into the same tournament multiple times and paying a rake for every single entry.
Also, the revenge factor only makes me a worse player. I lose focus and concentration, thus my moves becoming too obvious. Just my nickel.
Why doesn't anyone notice that these new multi-entry tournies are fn RAKE MACHINES? I mean, you have to pay the rake for every single entry, that's load of ****!!!
Uh oh. The revenge aspect was my first thought... This is definitely a creative idea - and looks like fun - but watch for many people to start looking to exact revenge. Should make for some interesting table talk! lol
Multiple loose callers every hand with very little fear, destroying any hope of sound pre-flop play followed by kamikaze post-flop when any bit of it is caught (or even not in some cases).
So it will generally be a donkfest and eventually create a 'poacher turned gamekeeper' scenario where you'll have to start playing the same loose and cross your fingers style and not not exactly doing anything to improve your game.
@xentech not at all m8. What I'm saying is the format is gonna force the game into a loose free-forall. I don't care how good a player you are, when you've got 4 or 5 callers in every hand it becomes the donkfest luckfest. Just look at how the game goes in rebuys, if they've got the money in the account they don't care cos the mentality is it'll hit hard eventually. It's bad enuff playing em in normal format let alone now giving em more chances and more of em at your table.
@bingobuddha makes no sense.. more ppl getting their money in against you more often is always a mathematically good thing. it may create more variance but it will overall give you more +ev spots.
It amazes me that PokerStars hasn't started coming up with all kinds of new games. They should see the successes of the FTP innovations and be inspired. I really like it when they come out with something completely new. If you can come up with a strategy before everyone else does, then you can see great profits quickly. This is what happened with Rush Poker when it first started. I LOVE IT! Good luck at the tables everyone!
The reason FT have introduced this is to make more money, full stop. Same motivation for rush poker. Having said that you may have a valid point that we good players could exploit the donkeyfish even more.
Larger prize pool and a larger pool of 'wankers'. I enjoy how FT keep coming up with these new formats that entice the oblivious and impatient recreational players. That said, I think a larger percentage of pros will buy into these tournaments since they have a greater chance of making the final table, which will inevitably drive the fish out. Marty, I expect a video titled, 'Now I know how to play Multi-Entry Tournaments' full of agonizing bad-beats you suffer at the tables.
Well when it comes down to it FT just wants to make money and this defiantly allows them too, while also rewarding the professionals and those who practice patience. Fish will see this as an opportunity to gamble more with the false assumption that its more profitable given the increased number of entries. Also, I think this can attract many players who do not enjoy multi-table tournaments because of the variance involved as the multiple-entry tournaments will allow for decreased variance.
again full tilt innovates! giving fish a reason to stay with FT.
To me it seems that players who decide to shell out for multiple entries would be a little bit looser because they think that if they lose one entry, it's not that big of a deal. Good players who know how to manage their entries will do very well in this format, essentially adding another good way to increase a bankroll. Multi tabliong taken to a whole new level.
I can really see this new format catching on fast!
Marty! What a great video! Fultilt really is coming out with alot of new types of games that are changing the way online poker is played! As you highlighted, plaiyng in one of these games where there will be much more loose play by the average recreational player means that there will be more opportunity for the proper mzone strategy to succeed, especially while multi tabling in the same tournament! Bravo as well to the awesome video ending! Nothing better than some good ol revenge!!
Part 2: And when you run across those lame-playin' JJ-AA bustin' fools that call your KK 4XBB raise at 20/40 with Q5hh because ------ "They're SUITED!" and they hit that power barfing runner-runner flush on you, you can just catch them right after they pile all their chips together at another table and decide to call your Big Slick spades light with Ace-Rag. But this time you're all-in pre and flop KK8 ------- and bye-bye Don & Cat! You got a 380K stack, laughin' all the way to the final table!
Part 1: Let the Donkfest begin! In fact, this could be a regular Donkapalooza! Just think: Mr. Don Key from Wabash, Nowhere registers in a 4X2 for $2 bucks a piece. Now Key, or Don if ya know him tells his FWPB (that's, Friend with Poker Benefits), Ms. Cat Fish. She says to Don, "Ya, I wanna log in to FT and play too!" Then she tells all her hee-hawin' friends to play and suddenly there's brayin' and fin flappin' play across multiple tables at once! (more to come)
Again FT has found a way to make more money and direct what's left to the pros. Turbos and speeds weren't enough. Enter "Rush Poker." More money for the site and the pros. Even that's not enough. Now they want even more. Now it's Multi-Entries. Their greed knows no bounds. At the risk of repeating myself...More money for the site and the pros. It's not like they're not already making money hand over fist. Pretty soon all the bad players will be gone and it will just be the pros against the pros.
@sgtcyber Definietly not true and FTP knows this. The new game types will attract the bad players because they are impatient. These new modes focus on the fast-paced with more action and possible oppurtunity. They will not learn from their mistakes and the pros or even intermediate player will benefit forever more :D
It's probably worth clarifying that when you mention "Multi-table within your bankroll," multi-tabling doesn't come into play with BRM. In other words, the same BR applies whether you're playing one game/table of a given stake, or 20. So as long as you're playing within your BR to start with, you can multi-table those same stakes with the same BR. This assumes you maintain a positive (hourly) winrate of course -- if not, then no amount of BR is going to survive and you must cut back.
lol the revenge thing gotta love that.it runs a close 2nd to the how to play JJ vid.I like the sound of these new tourneys. It will be interesting to see how the how these go towards the last few tables
sounds like a good idea, i assume there wont be rush tourneys in this style because it wud be hard to not be moved to another of ur entries table....
another thing about this is that if u geta bad beat or cooler its not ur tourney over like it would be in a rebuy after the rebuy limit for example....
i especially like the merge format as it means one of ur buy ins arent wasted if for example you have 4 buy ins left with 3 tables left and ur shortest stack just gets eliminated.... KYLER20 FTP
I completely agree that this will be attractive to the weaker players, especially at the lower limits, not only play even worse when they have other entries doing well, but help balloon the prize pool. I really like the fact that if you do have multiple entries and you go deep, you actually combine the stacks, do well in 2 or more and it could really give solid players a huge advantage over weaker players who got incredibly lucky during the tournament and have no clue how to use their stacks.

Hey Marty.
Well, first of all thanks for your Videos.
"How to play pocket Jacks" became a running gag in my social circle.
Everytime Jacks get busted in our private homegame someone says "Well, I guess pocket Jacks are tough to play" :D
But now on this video.
Im not a friend of rebuy tournaments, cause I love the thrill of knowing that one bad decicion can end it all. Same thing with the multi entry.
Youre Idea of revenge is pretty cool though.
Props for FTPs creativity
Best wishes from Germany.

You should not enter unless going to end.
mybluedog456 1 year ago
Simple Math Equation:
4 buy-ins (or more) + donks + donks bad decisions +EV = Freedom 25
Soon FTP will have tourneys where you can have multiple people playing on your account...ooops Sorel Mizzi beat them to that idea.

Great video as always Marty

Baekstrom 1 year ago
I would think though that your opportunity would be greater the longer your multiple entries remained apart. If you were unfortunate to have entries merged early in a tourney, then you could be at a disadvantage. Also being separated longer allows Tournament Indicator more opportunity to collect data on more players, which is of great benefit to a newbie like myself.
MetalGumby 1 year ago

They have helped me to re-evaluate my game and I have tightened up and have become a better player.
rjsnipes 1 year ago
Funny, I had a different take on this. My impression is that the METs would encourage players to focus on staying in the game, since, with multiple entries, it could be possible to cash multiple times. Even if one doesn't get at least 2 entries far enough to merge. (That's really hard!) I played the first tourney to check out how it played, and, for the most part, the donk plays were way down. There was a lot of limping, a LOT fewer all-ins, and most all-ins were valid plays. So...!

The best revenge is to play optimally against all opponents.
goboy90808 1 year ago
Interesting concept. I do think the "revenge" factor may be a little susceptible to the "tilt" factor, though. When you are going for revenge, I would think that the temptation to call down in a marginal situation would increase, thereby increasing your losses. I see this game as a perfect opportunity to build all the "mini-me's" to eventually merge and crush at the final table.
3danimationmagic 1 year ago

Hey Marty, nice overview of the new format. Just a couple of points to bear in mind:
if you suck out on a decent player, you become the wanker he's gonna be looking for revenge against :)
tilt is going to destroy your bankroll in no time unless you are bright enough to know when to get out
revenge is going to lead you to make more risky playing decisions
I do agree, however, that donks are going to be throwing money into the prize pool. Wiser players just need to take full advantage of this...

PART 2
Multiple loose callers every hand with very little fear, destroying any hope of sound pre-flop play followed by kamikaze post-flop when any bit of it is caught (or even not in some cases).
So it will generally be a donkfest and eventually create a 'poacher turned gamekeeper' scenario where you'll have to start playing the same loose and cross your fingers style and not not exactly doing anything to improve your game.
So NOT for me but hey, fill your boots!
bingobuddha 1 year ago
@bingobuddha lol you're basically saying you would prefer to play more skilled players as opposed to spewy exploitable fish?
xentech 1 year ago
@xentech not at all m8. What I'm saying is the format is gonna force the game into a loose free-forall. I don't care how good a player you are, when you've got 4 or 5 callers in every hand it becomes the donkfest luckfest. Just look at how the game goes in rebuys, if they've got the money in the account they don't care cos the mentality is it'll hit hard eventually. It's bad enuff playing em in normal format let alone now giving em more chances and more of em at your table.
bingobuddha 1 year ago
@bingobuddha makes no sense.. more ppl getting their money in against you more often is always a mathematically good thing. it may create more variance but it will overall give you more +ev spots.

PART 1
Hi Marty
in all the time I have been following your advice and opinions this is as rare as hens teeth in that I have to disagree for the first time.
While I can agree that FT is the most innovative and actually like the Rush concept, this latest offering will be kept beyond arms length.
You say there will be bigger and better profit ops for the players who can make solid, patient decisions but I can't see it.
Although not a rebuy it will be the same effect.
bingobuddha 1 year ago
It amazes me that PokerStars hasn't started coming up with all kinds of new games. They should see the successes of the FTP innovations and be inspired. I really like it when they come out with something completely new. If you can come up with a strategy before everyone else does, then you can see great profits quickly. This is what happened with Rush Poker when it first started. I LOVE IT! Good luck at the tables everyone!
drgilbert4 1 year ago
The reason FT have introduced this is to make more money, full stop. Same motivation for rush poker. Having said that you may have a valid point that we good players could exploit the donkeyfish even more.

Larger prize pool and a larger pool of 'wankers'. I enjoy how FT keep coming up with these new formats that entice the oblivious and impatient recreational players. That said, I think a larger percentage of pros will buy into these tournaments since they have a greater chance of making the final table, which will inevitably drive the fish out. Marty, I expect a video titled, 'Now I know how to play Multi-Entry Tournaments' full of agonizing bad-beats you suffer at the tables.
zilo1907 1 year ago
Well when it comes down to it FT just wants to make money and this defiantly allows them too, while also rewarding the professionals and those who practice patience. Fish will see this as an opportunity to gamble more with the false assumption that its more profitable given the increased number of entries. Also, I think this can attract many players who do not enjoy multi-table tournaments because of the variance involved as the multiple-entry tournaments will allow for decreased variance.
synysterr1989 1 year ago
again full tilt innovates! giving fish a reason to stay with FT.

Pretty soon all the bad players will be gone and it will just be the pros against the pros.
sgtcyber 1 year ago

This assumes you maintain a positive (hourly) winrate of course -- if not, then no amount of BR is going to survive and you must cut back.

another thing about this is that if u geta bad beat or cooler its not ur tourney over like it would be in a rebuy after the rebuy limit for example....
i especially like the merge format as it means one of ur buy ins arent wasted if for example you have 4 buy ins left with 3 tables left and ur shortest stack just gets eliminated.... KYLER20 FTP
6charlene 1 year ago
I completely agree that this will be attractive to the weaker players, especially at the lower limits, not only play even worse when they have other entries doing well, but help balloon the prize pool. I really like the fact that if you do have multiple entries and you go deep, you actually combine the stacks, do well in 2 or more and it could really give solid players a huge advantage over weaker players who got incredibly lucky during the tournament and have no clue how to use their stacks.
