Well, Airbus A380 is the largest aircraft and it supersede the long time queen of the skies Boeing 747. Since its Singapore airlines that acquired this plane first hand I think its just fitting that Airbus tested NAIA after all Singapore airlines may consider serving manila with its A380 Naturally its also publicity as I said its a super jumbo airplane.
@nikkolightcrips19 BTW lufthansa technik philippines (LTP) is building a new hangar for A380 Philippines will acquire one shortly after the hangar is done
It went there to see if the airport could handle the A380. It went to different international airports around the world to see if the A380 could be accomodated. Runways, jetway bridges, etc. were looked at to see if the airports needed to make changes.
@mutizen99 bloodline305 was correct. The A380 went to different airports around the world to see if those airports could handle an aircraft that size. Among the many areas that were of a concern were the runway length, tarmac spacing, etc. and it gave those airports that needed improvements to make those changes.
It's called route proving. Boeing and Airbus do this to show to airlines that it can be used anywhere in the world. Hot, cold, or very humid weather operation testing. Gather more accurate data for missions (airline revenue flight), and prove that it can land and taxi on existing airports and gates. Of course it serves as a publicity stunt also.
I rode on Singapore Airlines A380....it was horrible! Yes its a big plane BUT it feels cramped and stuffy. It takes forever to get on and off the plane and you have to wait forever for your food to arrive not to mention the lack of lavatories. I prefer the 747's over the A380.
I heared na may bagong Livery ang PAL sa A380-800(the only A380 version)nila, may tanong ako, totoo bang nag-pitstop muna ang A380 sa Cebu bago tumuloy sa Sydney? kase noong nag sakay ako ng taxi sa may Fuente Osmena Ave sa Cebu may nakita akong Eroplanong may airbus livery pero hindo ko ma tukoy kung A340 with airbus livery(kulay) or A380 na airbus livery
I thought privatization of PAL it will help to improve the fleet...but sad to say it did not...hope we the Lucio Tan have a vision to acquire A380 in the near future...God Bless Philippines...
the aircraft did not back track fortunately the runway in use is 24 therefore the aircraft have no problem entering its designated bay assignment... if the runway in use is 06 it will exit at echo 1 then no other aircraft movement except the subject for safety reasons...
the runway have no prob... but taxiway isn't configured to accept the load and the width of the aircraft... more modifications needed with regards to the taxiway and its gateways... cmiiw
ayos to sa PAL livery :-bd ^^,

nag test drive lang po Airbus sa NAIA at DMIA (include the other countries)
sabi ng pilot ng A380 medyo short para sa wings ang runway ng NAIA but DMIA ok naman.

I'd like to see many of those on the trans-pacific routes with PAL's colors on it. It would be spectacular on our national carrier's colors. (",)
