  • Posture is extremely important in gymnastics. In fact with younger developing athletes, I will spend 15 to 20 minutes per day utilizing special exercises to develop their bodyline.

  • Coach Sommer, do you feel posture is very important to prevent injury for your athletes? Do you encourage them to have proper posture throughout their daily activities?

  • Crazy kids... I can hear my shoulder popping just thinking of doing this

  • i wish i had shoulder flexibility like this, i have fucking kyphosis, i cant move mar hand over my head without arching my back : (((

  • Not as easy as he makes it look -- gymnast RULE

  • do athletes like this guy do wiehgt training in a gym or does the look of the body come from the exercises you do there (like push up variations ,pull ups etc)

  • @Ge4rsofWar In Gymnastics you build strength moistly through bodyweight exercises. You can almost always put your muscles at a disadvantage causing a simple bodyweight exercise to become harder. Also using your bodyweight develops more functional strength than weight training but at a high level weights can be used to increase the difficulty of bodyweight training :)

  • The physiques of all my athletes are the result of gymnastics strength training. If you want to look like a gymnast, you must train like a gymnast :)

  • Ohh that's so sick son

  • is that a frisbee youre using to slide?

  • Yes, he is using a frisbee to reduce friction on his feet.

    Yours in Fitness,

    Coach Sommer

  • oh he's swimming....without water :o

  • this reminds me of the butterfly stroke for swimming.

  • @demontoarch quite a bit harder without water it transpires!

  • Omfg, and I thought I'm cool cuz I can clap behind my back. XD Gotta try this.

  • wouldn't this put strain on his lower back?

  • Only if the athlete is not strong enough to perform this particular exercise.

    Yours in Fitness,

    Coach Sommer

  • woah--sweet!

  • HAHAH...His feet looked HUGE until I realized that he was sliding on a disc.

  • Watched this- thought "oh that looks easy"

Tried this- thoyught "shit. That hard."

Just makes ya think how hard it is.

  • If I did that I'd fall flat on my face.

  • hahah that looks like a out of water butterfly stroke!

that shit is no joke though, hard as fuck.

  • @m1kasd lol butterfly in its self is hard

  • In response to getfitdit:

Those who strive for excellence will always meet violent opposition from mediocre minds. You sir, must have been rather mediocre in your youth. I salute these boys/men for their dedication and passion. Continue to show the world what great things can be achieved!

  • Did anyone notice the ratio of girls to boys in this video. It looked like 15 to 1! I think he is in the right place!

  • Lmao...

  • Holy crap .. he looks bionic when he does that lol

    great job !!!

  • O_o he's a gymnast (like me). If we go boozing or "taking it easy", we lose in our sport. And that five minutes of fame is actually all we have.

  • people leave the strangest comments

  • agree :p a lot of people are confused

  • dont tell him to take it easy just cause you cant do what he does.

  • If only I knew about these 2 years ago. Then my butterfly at district would have qualified :/ lol

  • seems like that would wear the muscles in your arm down after a few years.

  • wear them down? Are you joking? Im sure this coach would not let his athletes do this if it was not beneficial to strength. these are mcuh harder than jumping pushups thta i suualy do, great channel

  • I don't remember what my comment said. There was no disrespect...and yes it is a great channel. Every workout wears you down. Our bodies are decaying. Just find any professional athlete when they get old. This exercise just seemed-to me(someone who knows nothing about gymnastics mind you)- to elevate that wearing down process unecessarily.

  • only if you are about 80 years old

  • Well, in gymnastics, hypotrophy isn't really a good thing (since it makes you heavier). So I don't think it really matters (sports-wise). Gymnastics is a sport that is permanently damaging to the body though @_@

  • nice

  • I'm loving them pushups bro. Good work

  • Watch out Michael Phelps

  • Watching this I cannot help but to feel ashamed that when I was his age I wasted my time with video games. I could have been involved in gymnastics. Well done, young man!

  • @HankLafayette

Why is videogames a waste of time, I play alot and I'm super happy =)

  • @HankLafayette You could do both :P

  • how old is he

  • swimming without h2o..nice!

  • Hello from Italy... nice workout...

  • Wow, that looked so cool!

  • weird, almost looks like butterfly stroke

  • Not as easy as it seems! Must add those in my trainings :)
