i'm sure it was intentional, but that neon green lit gauge adds a whole new level of creepy to that already creepy yet beautiful car, it resembles a face almost. I wonder why. (no pun intended)
you get into a head on in this car with one of today and the Fury will come out on top hands down these cars were made of STEEL not the plastic shit of today
Problem here: The Bel Air they used in that test was completely rotted out, and I'm sure the engine was removed.
The car was painted up to look nice, that's literally it. The only thing the Malibu has to it's advantage is a nice, plushy dashboard that won't crush you when you impact it... unlike the steel & aluminum that the dashboards of yesteryear were made.
Frankly, if I am wearing a seatbelt in a Bel-Air, Fury, or Mercury Montclair... I'm safe.
@cinemans I heard it in this movie first. Plus it was better than A Bronx Tale. This movie made me fall in love with old songs and cars. It was a couple days ago. I always nwatch this movie. I was only 6 when it came out in 83 and my mom took me and my bothers and some of their friends to see a double feature this and Children of the Corn. Talk about not sleeping.
Great Movie and Scene; but, could anyone please tell me what the "V" meant on 1950's cars as thinking a little deeper than just fancy decoration. could it mean "Victory" since in the 1950's the U.S.A. after winning WWII was on top of the world! Any answer would be appreciated, thanks!
@eindhovengorecity Thanks for the comment, that makes since, but I have also notced Televisions and Radios, Record Players also use The "V" Decoration?!
@sketchyinc it also makes sense that it would stand for "victorious" since the 50's represented a booming era of sports cars and fashion. a sign of a country's strong economy after winning a war. also a "did you know that?" piece of info... BMW started out as a company that built airplanes in 1916 and the white and blue emblem represents a white airplane propeller whipping through a blue sky. cool huh?
@checkfoldcallraise Also the stylized propeller emblem of BMW is a cutout of the blue and white chequered pattern that is the national colors of Bavaria - as in Bayrische Motoren-Werke (Bavarian Motor Works). Very nice symbolism they got there!
BUILD QUALITY AT THAT TIME WAS QUANTITY NOT QUALITY-----BY 62' HALF HAD TERMINAL CANCER------EVEN FOOR DOORS ARE HARD TO FIND-----AND FORGET ABOUT TRIM---AMERICA PICKED THE 57' BEL AIR AS A FAVORITE----PEOPLE ABUSED THESE CARS BACK THEN NOT KNOWING WHAT WE WOULD BE DRIVING 50 YEARS LATER----THINK FLYING CARS!
I can't believe this....IF YOU'RE 12....go home and do your home work! Christine's a movie. And you'll NEVER own that car. No one will. Stop posting...do your school work!
I got a tear in my eye when I see this ; nice car followed by a nice song and the future should be secured!!! His parents had a Volvo with a very bad color. How could they think that this crap Volvo had higher status than the Plymouth? Anyway - our motto should be; With Mopar into the future, go on cruising and at least; rockabilly rules - OK?
I used to purposely replay this part over and over, its right after Arnie is an ass to the girl and comes back to good ol possesive demonic V8 American made Christine
Do you hear that noise! That's a pure V8 howlin' !!! No 4 cylinder 100 horsepower chickenshit, but pure ass kickin' road lickin' American V8 with a magnificent cryin' push-button TorqueFlite transmission. These were CARS, what you get today is CRAP!
@tanergode I got a 63' Impala 350 V-8 turbo tran, and the way Artie feels about his ride is the same way I get with my ride crazy yeah I know but dammit love that 63'.
@tanergode Haha maybe in the 90s stupid. Cars in 2011 are faster, safer, just as heavy, better handling, more convenient, etc. The 80s and 90s were sad, I agree... but put a 2011 Maxima against this car and the fury would be left in the dust.
@1958LEBAY I've got the same problem. Have a pickup that doesn't not run or work right when my wife is riding in it. Works and runs like a champ when I'm alone
Yeah that green is a cool color for that. I mean we all know everything about that car is super awsome. Did you know they destroyed 16 of these in the movie. That sucks but it was a great movie. Really rare car to.
They weren't all Plymouth Furies. From Wikipedia: "Although the 1958 Plymouth Fury is identified as the car in John Carpenter's adaptation of the Stephen King novel Christine, two other Plymouth models, the Belvedere and the Savoy, were also used to portray the malevolent automobile in the film. Total production for the 1958 Plymouth Fury was 3,018. Several Fury models were destroyed during filming, but most of the cars were Savoy and Belvedere models dressed to look like the Fury."
@dmc081 what do ya mean...was there just one green bulb that dimly lit them...especially on one side..ya know..like on the 77 Furys. How they had a green bulb that lit the dash..
Has anyone noticed tho throughout the film on some of the songs it plays . . its like the car is playing the song to Arnie! Esp this scene, and the one where is plays "pledging my love" . . a few people have noticed it that i know.
Oh yeah, I'm actually surprised it's not a given. I mean I consider all the songs it plays as Christine's 'voice.' I mean that's the reason they're there right?
Pledging my love - Christine asking for Arnie's love in return
I wonder why - Christine expressing her affections
Keep a Knock'n - obvious...
Rock n' Roll is here to stay - Pretty much Christine's defeat screams, obvious if you change some of the lyrics:
yup exactly mate ! Its like the car is talking to Arnie ... I only noticed like after the 2nd time i watched it lol... now i have seen the movie at least ..... 8 - 9 times lol.... must say its a very well done movie though
@1966mopar1966 I have the same love for christine.....she's one of the most beautiful girls that exists in this world + christine understand what are u saying....so....
@1966mopar1966 I'm 15, and I love the 50s, it's a wonderful time, (or was), my dream-car is a 1944 Ford (black) 4-Door Coupe. Looks almost as good as Christine, but the Fury is a wonderful car, I don't understand why everyone in the movie calls it "ugly". XD :)
