Sweden had the best ships back then.. they pwned in the sea so they made like a super big ship but they loaded this one with to many cannons etc so it sank

@Tyranid90 actually, the sinking was due to the open cannon ports. The ship tipped sidwaays only for a moment, and the water rushed in.

@Evilhamster13 They don't actually know the real cause of why the flagship sank. But open canon ports are probably not it... It's probably because the ship wasn't broad enough and didn't have enough weight in the center (cant remember what u call it) for it to be stable.

Nobody at the time could explain why it went down on its maiden voyage. So nobody was prosecuted for this epic fail as far as I know.

I don't regret that the US took part in World War 2, which had a decisive impact to say the least. Lots of young Americans gave their lives. We should all pay some respect for that. It's easy for a young miserable Swede, who never have hade to deal with war, to criticize. Thanks to the free world, defended by the US, this spoiled, and stupid little guy is comfortably seated in peaceful surroundings. And he is frustrated... Shame on you, jävla ynkrygg.

ah but if they wanted to defeat communism they should have started with the soviets, it was the soviets who gave weapons to all other communist countries, had they taken out the soviets then it would have been a peice of cake to deal with all the smaller communist countries, but the truth if the USA probably feared the soviets just as much as we europeans did.

during world war I and II they wanted to stay out of the war, they joined only because they were attacked.

The korean and the vietnamn war was about stopping communism from spreading, USA probably didnt care to much about south korea and south vietnam or its people.

It is only a matter of time before all nations withdraw their troops from Iraq, including USA.

And you will have failed, Iraq will still lie in ruins, the new iraqi army will have its hands full with trying to deal with all the insurgent groups trying to gain power over the country, the army will probably fail and a new

"saddam" will rise to power.

The number of iraqi casualties is now over 1 million, most of them are civilians, im glad Sweden isnt part of this massacre.

i beleive the captain was finnish, he had been prosecuting witches in Finland and was made captain because he was "effective", if i remember correctly.

infact he wasnt really a captain, but it didnt matter much back then since it was god who decided who won a battle, or so people beleived.

Interesting story, I never heard of it. The Vasa captain, who was also the captain of the Stockholm shipyard in the 1620's, was a Dane named Söfring Hansson. He had originally served in the Danish fleet where he had shipwrecked another ship. Vasa was, thus, his second.

And a pretty interesting thing is that the greatest swedish naval victory was long after Sweden had lost its great power status, the battle of svensksund 1790 against the russian empire.

Denmark hasnt done much the last 200 years either, not only Sweden declared neutrality when WWII broke out, Denmark and Norway did it aswell, the only difference is that Denmark and Norway were invaded and Sweden wasnt.

Hitler acutally wanted to invade Sweden but luckily for us they focused most of their strenght against the USSR so they couldnt spare enough men to invade Sweden.

The germans could use our railroad systems under the condition that the number of soldiers travelling to Norway would balance the number of soldiers leaving, besides Sweden wasnt really in a position to say no to Germany anyway.

And Sweden really needed to trade with Germany, during world war I the allies blocked much of the swedish trade with Germany and that lead to food shortages and economic hardship, there were several riots because of the lack of food.
