  • You can't ever beat the original of Cat Stevens. HECK, Cat Stevens is the best British singer of all time. Next to John Lennon of course.

  • I can't listen to it from someone other that the legendary Cat Stevens <3

  • He sounds like the "daughter" :P

  • Excelente

  • Free jump to "Its a Heartache" 3:29

  • @jshlstr itrs true , in father and son , cat stevens is best.

  • Rod Stewart is simply an extremely talented singer. I grew up with him as well and I never get tired of his voice and showmanship. Carry on Rod!

  • 2 temazos, de los mejores en la historia de la música, en la voz únicade Rod.

    EX-CE-LEN-TE!!! thanks!!

  • Thank you Rod for the beautiful songs I grew up listening

  • adoro essa musica lindA MI AD AI PESSOAL

  • rod can sing anything and it will sound great saw him in concert 5 times he is great he has a speacal gift thank u rod the man.

  • Rod Stewart , has one of the most Defining voices i have ever heard!, Being 26, i listen to hits and covers alike, seeing him live in cork 2 years ago was a highlight for me personally, LEGENDS appeal to all ages, thats the diffrence between POP Music and TIMELESS MUSIC

  • I agree with machayes I'm pushing 70 and have enjoyed all of the guys of this generation over the years. Rod Stewart has positioned himself nicely for the next 20 years of performance with his subtle change of musical direction incorporating many of his best numbers with many 'old' standards that sound like they were written with Rod Stewart in mind..

  • caralho, destruiu uma grande musica

pau no seu cu rod stewart

  • This song is beautyful :´)

  • i dunno why. but i prefer this version over the original verison. i am 15 years old. and me and dad pefrom this song together, its magical

  • yeah.. I prefer Cat Stevens

  • THIS GUY CAN FUCKING SING

  • So many key changes in father and son but really works well. Great video :)

  • he's one of best singer, he sang with bryan adams they're brrrrrilliant singers!

  • BELLISIMO...EL Y LA CANCION

  • One of the GREAT singers of all time. I LOVE Rod Stewart!!!

  • Paul Hogan????????

  • when father get sick and the SON doesn't mind...it is really a HEARTACHE for mom and sis....sure

  • I don't know of any other artist who can cover such a broad rand of music, and do it so well. He is, in my opinion, one of the best of all times.

  • Brought a tear to this old father's eye.

  • Que bien si los dos Rod y Bonnie hubiese cantado juntos

  • He's Great :)

  • Awesome fucking music man.

  • This song is from Cat Stevens only Cat

  • That voice, and those Cat Stevens songs, fantastic.

  • Classic Rod. It's A Heartache is a natural fit for Rod.

  • Why is his voice so hoarse and weak?

  • @Jouwl That is his nature and his signature voice. No one can duplicate it.

  • @chowsquid I agreed with you, also my best rocker ever, Bod Dylan, didn't sing "Forever Young" so well.

  • I don't know why, every song in Rod's voice, going better than original singer. I love his voice it's true. I love him too.

  • @Vitoriakm have you even listened to Cat Stevens version(the original one)?

  • @WillRogueInc Yes. Is wonderfull too. Cat Stevens is a magnific singer.

  • muchacho i'll love you any time!

  • both songs are better done by Rod!!!

  • Only Rod could have the courage to try a version to this two inmortal songs... And he does it great, as always.

    ROD Forever!

  • Sorry but I am not impressed. Best so far is Cat Stevens.

  • ummm...i luv ya boo but stay away from this song Mr. Stewart

  • I am still confused and asking I am only 41 do you mind explaining it. Thanks :)

  • My mom said I always sang to Maggie May when I was like two or three.

  • No one can sing it better than Yusuf!

  • Sori it has to be Rod everytime, this song was meant for him

  • Comment removed

  • Rod is good at his songs but this song was meant to be sung by a man.

  • To all you who criticize Rod, thats your perogative. You will find as you mature and get older, the words are what count. I know you guys know this, but if Rod had sung this wonderful piece off-key, falsetto, with a severe head cold, it would still be beautiful to listen to.

  • @rmachayes I am a 19 year old male and i LOVE listening to Rod Stewart. Growing up in the car it was always in my dads cd player it was all that was every played!

  • Being 63 years old, I can attest to the greatness of Rod Stewart as a singer. It has been a genuine pleasure growing up with singers like Rod and many others through the years. To watch someone age with dignity and grace is truly a wonder to behold. Thank you Rod for MANY years of listening, and learning, enjoyment.

  • @rmachayes I share your pow 100% .

I also grew up old with Rod and his songs.

I still recall first teenager infatuation dancing these songs (or singing them accross the phone line) .

  • @rmachayes i wish i had your joy. me being 17, i have defiantly been born into the wrong era of music!

  • Did he say..."there's so much for you to know" at the beginning ??? Shoot...even the lyrics he can not get it right?

  • rod is one of the best, but what a shit version

  • The first words out of his mouth, at that high feminine pitch, sucked. Sorry, I've liked Rod's later copies- but this was over the top! Do you really believe this guy knows anything about the subject of this great song? Nu nu NO!

  • @idahocharley "that high feminine pitch" is meant to be the son singing. Cat Stevens does the same thing.

  • LOL voice jajajaja

  • This is a live performance and is adapted from his album GREAT ROCK CLASSICS OF OUR TIME which is excellent if you are mature enough to appreciate it.It's a pity he is constantly singing out of tune 'sharp' on this vid but it's probably a monitoring problem (technical) but AT LEAST ITS LIVE.

  • cat is muslim...

  • @izzat328 so??

  • @saquibaa you right, so??

  • It's a Heartache, alright.

  • muy bueno rod es un grande de verdad!!!

  • Comment removed

  • cat is cat

  • Rod always let me feel like a natural woman w /his songs

  • beautiful :)

  • perfect!!!!!!!!!

  • Whether it's a cover or his own song, he is a consummate professional and an enduring performer. He's awesome so save the catty remarks for someone else.

  • He sounds like an old woman

  • @MuseShrimp you sound like a old BITCH too so don't pick on his singing

  • To My husand

  • Wow... that was pathetically bad. Like he was imitating Macy Gray. I only lasted 65 seconds.

  • @alienhuman was your wife happy??

  • @1957corky1 hahaha... I meant I only listened to this version that long, but you knew that.

  • Something about a man at the end of his life with the experiences of love, life and regret singing this song touches the hardest of hearts. Rod Stewart, you are an inspiration to us all!

  • nooooooooooo, qué manera de echar a perder una buena canción.

Es mucho mejor la versión de Cat Stevens

  • I prefer Cat Stevens version

  • thank you.

  • this man is tremendous! nice one!

  • perfecto grande

  • Qe buenas rollass

  • great song... love it... but ,, what if your son is gay... and will not settle down with a girl.. but what a great song...

  • @Mr40520

Hi, your comment touches me deeply. I understand that it can be difficult for a father.

but a father has to love his son whatever happens. I wish a lot of love and happiness to you and your son. We have only one life so let us love and be loved.

  • I love Rod Stewart, but this is Cat's and only Cat's.....

  • great song, very good singer!!!

  • yusssssssssss

  • he is good but yusuf / cat is better

  • yes you are right, but nobody does it better than the original.

  • Rod is just wonderful...he takes any song and makes it his own, a rare talent indeed. I saw his concert last year; boy does he still know how to boogie!!! Good on ya, Rod!

  • Rod is a superstar but in my opinion Cat stevens is better

  • youre absolutley right

  • SO TRUE!!!

  • Of course Cat Stevens is a great singer an composer. In fact this is a great song but i prefer Rod's performance.

  • need more volume

    thanks for the post..

  • It's great i love it :-)

  • totally agree with you have you seen him live ? thanks RIA

  • I love Rod singing Father and Son. I love him!!!!

  • I:40 LIsten carefully!

  • well i do

  • I don t like this...

  • Rod, singing this song, touches me. I've always been a fan, but this cements his place in my heart.

  • i agree, i can feel cat's words too..

  • Rod is good, but it will always be Cat for me on "Father and Son". Some songs that Cat wrote were for Cat alone to sing. Thank you for the music!

  • @theway50 Totally agree

  • @theway50 yeh, but theres no doubt that rod perfected "first cut is the deepest"

  • Cat did not write the song so whos heart was in it?

  • @theMonetroddy Cat Stevens originally wrote "Father and Son" as part of a proposed musical project with actor Nigel Hawthorne called Revolussia, that was set during the Russian Revolution; the song was about a boy who wanted to join the revolution against the wishes of his father.

  • @wgcbww I am still confused was this a joint effort and I was very young at the time also, I am asking not stating and it looks like I was stating. Sorry

  • @theMonetroddy

cat wrote this song in 1970

  • i hope kids now would listen to their parents, bec. no parents would hope for the worst. they are trying to make us a better person. so we can be ready when they leave this world.

  • i love this song

  • I'd like to see Rod and Bonnie to a duet. Rod is my fav male vocalist. Like his other stuff better than these however. Spanner in the Works is my fav.

  • Royal Variety Show 2006 @ The London Coliseum... Great performance by Rod - even better experience watching it live from the wing!!! - Thanx for the vid

  • but you can hear background vocals and can't see any of background vicalists ;) Those vocals sound the samt as in the studio version and it's immposible to do it the same alive ;)

  • backing vocalists are singing on the right hand side at the back and its definately live...sounds good tho

  • band is playin' from the playback, ony Rod is singing live ;)

  • If you listen carefully, the guitar solo is an Spanish Guitar (not an acoustic guitar like the guitar player is using), so the band could be doin' playback but Rod isn't.

  • tiny mistakes, live,(no domingo but colour of voice is same) but that song is so good, after mathilda and if only of course. best popular singer of all the time

  • I'm a huge Rod Stewart fan as well as a CatStevens fan.

Rod does F & S OK. Nowhere near the emotional connection as the Cat Stevens cut.

That's OK with me. Rod has plenty of material where he does make that emotional connection. Handbags and Gladrags, Reason to Believe, Maggie May to name a few.

Rod, over the last several years, has found a new market covering these old songs. Good for him. Rock on Rod.

He's always had a knack for covering songs and making them his own. Just not this time.

  • i like rod stewart infact iv even bought one of albums, but he sounds terrible on ere singing father and son i got to lol

  • Wow, what a voice he got!!

  • sledge: I have no intentions of turning music into a Political debate (which you obviously are.) I'll say it again because you are a bit dim in the head:

If Cat Stevens had never recorded the song Rod would never have churned out this ... would he? Get a another brain cell to keep the one you have company.

(By the way ... he cocks up on the lyrics big time too)

I'm done; by all means carry on if you wish :)

  • As a Bonnie fan, I can say Rod's version IS good.

    It isn't bad.

    Of course, Bonnie's much better.

BUT, I've always said: You CAN'T compare with the original singer.

  • Biggest Rod! Father and son it is more one of the songs of Cat Stevens that I love together with Bonnie Tayler it is a Myth. Thanks of this beautiful video. :-)*****

  • sledge999:

I am whatever you think I am; but coming from someone who cannot even back up his support with reason for a song (and not the person) isn't quite 'all there' anyway.

By the way ... he sang this when he was Cat Stevens; so what is it you wanna do? Crucify him for his past or his present?

    ... you are an idiot.

    ~F~

  • Oh Puleeze Rodders! Steer clear of what you so totally ruin!

Father and Son: Absolutely lost is the very essence of this Cat Stevens song; no emotion, no feeling and no vision ... its dull and is not remotely close to the original.

It's A Hearthache; same thing; totally lost is the emotion, feeling and heart. A total mess.

Two songs crippled here. Cover versions can be good ... here Rodders shows how to totally ruin their very essence.

    ~F~

  • @frankfranklyn Feelings arn't everything - Rod Rocks... All he really needs is to get back with Ronnie and it's sorted!

  • superb

  • Thank you!! Roderick for wonderfull and long years with your great Musik

  • Who's 'great music' is that you are talking about? Most of what he sings now are someone else's ... and that's why he doesn't really sound all that 'great' because he murders some of the covers he sings.

    ~F~

  • Again - we clash. The whole unique thing about Rod Stewart is that he nearly always IMPROVES the original song 100%. You seem bitter at Stewart's incredible and long lasting success. And again. None od Stevens' songs can be taken seriously now in light of what we now know was in his mind.

  • sledge999: The comment was not to you. I'll just say this then I'm done:

Cat Stevens sang this song from his *heart*! Rod doesn't touch *anyones* heart in this rather dull rendition of a heart-wrenching song (only *if* you can grasp what the song is about.) How on earth you can say he improved this song is totally beyond me. "What we knew was on his [Cat Stevens] mind" ??? Are you saying he knew his future back in the 60's? Keep it real man! I'm done with you.

  • Give me Stewart's amazing voice over the despicable low life Stevens any day. You are a true moron. Good day.

  • Comment removed

  • WOW!! Fantastic version ...of the original songs by Cat Stevens and then Bonnie Tyler..

    thanks for sharing this!

  • BOOOOOOOOOOOONNIE TYLER did it better!

  • who's the original sang this song?

  • cat stevens

  • BIg ROd
