WHOA....YES, GOD CAN AND I'M A LIVING TESTIMONY...I KNOW ABOUT ILLNESSES THAT WERE TO TAKE ME OUT.....THAT WAS 15YRS AGO....I'M STILL HERE...AND HEALTHY ... GOD IS STILL GOD....THAT'S ALL THAT I KNOW...
Minister Rodgers thank you so much for this video. Sis. Griffin is a very special woman with a very special message. She personifies the person who has been on their death bed of affliction and prayed and believed and was victorious through her Faith in our beloved Savior, Jesus Christ.
gGIVE GOD THE GLORY!!!! THIS IS MORE THAN AWESOME. KEEP BLESSING US. THIS IS WHAT I ENJOY HEARING. A SONG THAT HAS MEANING. WHEW! GLORY, TO HIS NAME, JESUS.
My father Rev. James Reynolds, Jr. of Chicago, IL used to sing that song and have Commonwealth Baptist Church ROCKIN. Watching this recording brings back those memories. Rest In Peace "Daddy"
1990s, the number of former Roberta Martin Singers began to dwindle, with the deaths of James Lawrence in 1990, Gloria Griffin, Myrtle Scott, and Robert Anderson in 1995, Norsalus McKissick in 1997, Bessie Folk in the late 1990s, Archie Dennis in 2001, and Eugene Smith on May 9, 2009.
Where were all these videos performed at and how did they get all these people together? Simply amazing!!!! I love it, keep posting more. This takes us back to how it used to be. True Gospel at it's best! Glory be to God!!!!
I love this lady!! I was informed by gospellin that Sister Gloria Griffin is the voice behind "The King Is Coming" record by Rev. Maceo Woods Concert Choir. That song has impacted my life more than I can express. All these years later I finally get to put a face to the voice. Chicago is the blesseEST city in the nation!!! Thank you gospellin for sharing your knowledge, and minjimmierodgers for doing what you both do so very well.
Eugene Smith was a legendary man, one of the last pioneers to go on. I'm grateful that me and rowoches had the opportunity to talk to him on the phone on April 21, 2009 to wish him an early happy birthday. It was our only conversation with him. I was saddened to hear of his death a few weeks later, but I was glad I got the chance to talk with him, and I was also glad to be able to attend his homegoing services and see Chicago gospel in person. I can truly say "ain't nothin' like Chicago gospel!"
rodgers, you probably have but I dare you to count how many CHICAGO folk participated in this project (don't even count the ones ho came from other places to Chi, justthe ones who had a foundation here (I'm in Gary so I can say here lol)...man this is great to see wow, you always do great.
and by the way, 4 those who don't know this bit of information, Roberta Martin didn't write God Specializes, Gloria Griffin did..and if you listen to the older version of it, you could tell the difference btwn Roberta and Gloria's voices.
I read that Roberta Martin's style influenced Richard Smallwood's style of piano playing so much, that the Martins chose him to play for them during their big 1981 reunion concerts at the Smithsonian. And listening here, you can hear Roberta all through his playing. Roberta had to have been looking down, just smiling.
God does specialize and he can do what is impossible in human eyes. I don't care what other folk say, God can handle even the impossible. He will work it out for his people. It's a piece of cake for God what man can't even figure out.
I've seen what GOD can do when he spared my son's life from a gunshot wound at close range to the head and is still alive to learn the goodness of God five years ago. He really SPECIALIZES in our life. Thank you Jesus!!!!!!!!
Another great. I use to go see them on New Years Eve, when they would come to Greater Harvest with the Banks Brothers. Charles was pastor. I have one album left. Why wouldAretha be considered a gospel legend? I don't think so. It's not how good you sound, but the annointing that makes the difference. Keep up the good work. Sister D
That was a powerful testimony. I cried tears of joy to know what God had brought her through. I also cried because this is one of the songs that stayed in my spirit since childhood and brought me through many dangerous times. I am blessed that my Mother introduced this song to me as a child.
Gloria Griffin's testimony wears me out every time I watch this. If she could belt it out like that minus one lung and ultimately near death... those of us who can sing and don't or won't should be shame!
When did Gloria Griffin die? I remember when she did that song "The King Is Coming" with Rev. Maceo Woods and the Christian Tabernacle Concert Choir around 1984. That was a powerful rendition!!!!
I truly enjoy Gloria Griffin of the famous Roberta Martin Singers. In this presentation she gives her very all as if she knew of her death which soon followed. Singing and Singers like this are few and far between. Thank you much for this presentation to be shared.
YES YES YES! God does Specialize! The Doctors thought I might have had stomach cancer a while back, and I prayed, and what did God do, he healed me!!!!!
For 2 hours I have watched these clips over and over again and cried and praised God for this incredible giants of gospel who have paved the way and passed on. I wish someone was carrying on the legacy of this type of Gospel music. Oprah's legends ball had nothing on the gospel giants assembled in this room! Thank you for posting this priceless piece of history!
Just because Albertina Walker wasn't there doesn't mean she wasn't invited. She has had some health issues over the years that may be hampering her travel.
Gloria Griffin was my grandmother. We have lost almost all video and audio of her past performances. Thank you so much for posting this. It will be a great mothers day find for my mother. We are very greatful. Do you have anymore?
