Sale and Pelletier were magical and they certainly deserved to win the gold medal. The Russian pair were good, but they have a few errors. It's really too bad that the judges cheated because we'll never truly know who should have won. I know Sale and Pelletier's program was not as technically difficult as the Russians, but the mistakes the Russians made should offset this. Basically it should have come down to the presentation marks to determine the winner.
Be proud Canadians, you got your gold medals thanks to your incessant and unbearable complaints and cries! Hooray for you, here's to the Canadian way of winning!
Here are the marks given by 3 of the judges to the russians
Russian judge: 5.8 , 5.9
French judge: 5.8 , 5.9
Canadian judge: 5.7 , 5.8
The marks given to the canadians
Russian judge: 5.8 , 5.8
French judge: 5.8 , 5.8
Canadian judge: 5.9 , 5.9
It looks like the canadian judge had a much more accurate idea of which team should be Olympic Champion than the french, doesn't it? I wonder why they had to trash the french judge since it is obvious the canadian judge had totally rigged it.
@Toghebon No... I think you meant Annisina and Peizrat... the cause of all this.. vote trading the reason the ridiculous Italian ice dance team (Fusar-poli and Morgaglio) jumped from 9th to 5th to world champoins... trading votes with the oh so creditible Russian and French Federations !!

Love these comments, but the ones that are gaining the more validity are stating "Salé in particular" is undeserving. The more I have learned about her from other skating forums and interactions, She is a little B and was antagonistic and belligerent competitor WHO also did not have the graceful posture and positing regardless of "clean." They are suited for pro circuit. The russians has a few tech flaws but what was done clean was superior the WHOLE season. That is the way they used to score.
Everyone is ignoring the fact the the judge signed a deposition saying that she didn't vote for russia cause of the pressure but the fact that she thought the russians were better. Its like if I were judging a slam dunk contest between michael jordan in his prime and some random high schooler that can kind of dunk. If someone goes up to me and tells me they'll pay me 100 bucks to vote for jordan and I ended up voting for jordan because he was better. It doesn't mean my vote was corrupted.
I'm sorry I'm prepared to be thumbs downed or spammed, but if a gold can be stripped from someone testing positive for a Sudafed-equivalent and a team bronze can be stripped for an underage athlete then the Russian skaters should've been stripped of their gold and happily accepted the silver they deserved.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@steelersboy2009 The only ones who should be stripped are Sale/Pelletier. If they had any integrity they would return their fake gold medals themselves. It was bad enough the Canadian fed's lobbying campaign helped them "win" 2001 Worlds, they had no shame and also had to rob them of half the glory of Olympic gold. And then after Canada made such a big deal about how horribly wrong it is to win with a minor non-fall error, they have Patrick Chan win after splatting four times on his ass...
@fspatin Say what you will...but Sale/Pelletier did deserve the gold medals like it or not. Yes...it wasn't the Russian skaters' faults, but with a noticeable mistake w. corrupt judging involved (yes, I know quite a bit of it goes on before you preach to me), in my eyes Russia was 2nd here to Canada's very flawless routine. A non-fall error is still an error.

@annakfan I know!! And you may not agree or care, but I personally feel that Johnny Weir was robbed of a medal. He may not have deserved gold or silver, but he should NOT have been placed at 6! What a sham!
@chuhboemember6 Thank you! I agree, even though, I AM biased(Canadian) Really, whoever watched that whole thing, knew the same! Thanks for the back up. eh?
I don't know why some of the responses here are so childish. Score by element there is not the possibility to have the Russian pair out score. Also there was an investigation and they found there was cheating. Very simple, Russia did have a cheating judge on their side. They are lucky they did not get disqualified and i.m.o both performance were good but the Canadians 2 performances were better - and I don't "disbelieve that Jamie ran into him during warm up intentionall
@seenbuzzard Also it is possible it was a scheme to make the change from the 6.0. Which I DON"T like the 6.0. I know I disagree with a lot of skaters out there (primally ones that have spent the lives developing their talent under the 6.0.) i.m.o the C.O.P is "better." ALL SPORTS are subject to Review / Judgment and a score that comes up as the Judge scores it is the best way to combat the possibility for corruption ~ then subject to review as 95%+ of sports.
Dudes stop the hating! Both the canadians and russians deserved the gold. This scandal was caused by the judge that accepted that trade, so both deserved it.
@Kate9105 Agree with the stop squabbling, yet the fact they both received gold is not realistic and has done more damage to the sports popularity. I think it is good when people are commenting with opinions about the actual event rather than getting all nasty to each other - also self-defeats their opinion / reasonability. Particularly if you are writing words people find offensive - I do swear it is not decorous and those remarks will be removed anyway.
If the Russians were so much better than the Canadians, then why did they need to trade votes? The presentation scores reminded me of the cold war era (if you took the French out of it); the voting was pretty much along ideological lines. Communist or Former Soviet block assessing S&P '2's. As much as I dislike Sale & Pelletier, they got jobbed and the Russian pair got soiled in the process. If the French judged hadn't confessed, skating would still be the laughing stock of the Winter Olympics.
@ChachouMiaou - I was trying to make a point. That the ISU and many skating Federatiion were aware of vote trading long before this incident. I was not and in no way was I suggesting that CSF had any involvement in the trading of votes, nor did any Canadian judge. So don't mistake or try to misinterperate my comment as me agreeing with any of your views, because trust me I do not !
@ChachouMiaou - it was the Canadian pair B & K who led a protest at the worlds in favor of the Lithuanian couple, they were very aware of the vote trading going for years. I was never suggesting that the CSF was involved in trading votes, just that they didn't want to here it or deal with it like many of skating federation or like the IOC, here they were forced to deal with it. Remember the Italian dance team of Fusarpoli and Margalio they went from 9th to 5th to World Champions by-passing many!
It's irrelevant who deserved gold at these games, they were both amazing teams. I'm glad Sale and Pelletier were awarded gold medals, and equally glad Berezhnaya and Sikharulidze got to keep theirs. The point is, it's the skaters who got screwed, and I'm so sick of reading judgmental crap from people who clearly know little to nothing about figure skating. Don't you think their Olympic moment was spoiled enough without a bunch of amateurs accusing them of cheating or media chasing?
Like it was the first time any medals were fixed... it has been going on for years in every judged sport, how many of us remember the 1972 Olympics and Olga Korbut getting silver on the bars, the crowd booded and whistled and stop competition for 40 minutes.. they trading votes was going on for years in skating.. it is sad it took so long, and the Canadian Skating Federation fired a judge who tired to report that she had been approach to trade votes..long before this...
I know! At the same time, there was a much bigger potential scandal in ice dance, the Lithuanians skated a perfect free dance and were still placed 5th behind the Canadians and the Italians who had both had heavy falls on important elements. But no one cared for their complaint, because they were too busy hyping up this so-called scandal. BTW Canadians always whine when they think they got robbed, but they never talk about the occasions on which THEY benefitted from the lobbying game.
You have got to be kidding me!!!! SP were very good, sure! But come on! Elena and Anton were such much better including the short program, which aparrently, everyone forgot it. The canadians shouldnt have won the gold medal.
And if this would have been under the new system I doubt Sale&Pelletier would have won anyway. So one can argue if the results were fair from the start or not.
