Would you have rather had him not try? You just sound like a fool writing things like that, but go ahead show the world. and you spelled offense wrong
Hey your music is so professional... I don´t know I really think you have to start playing your own music. Fans you have enough already (me including of course). I would buy everything you may produce!!! Let us know when this day come....!
Do you take requests? How about Pretty Mary K("walks along the dock" version) and Kings Crossing? For Nick, I'm thinking Three Hours? Jose Gonzalez? Also check out my ES no name 6 cover..
It goes without saying that you are brilliant. I spend a bit of my time dissecting Elliott Smith songs and you have interpreted them the way I would. There is not one part where I disagreed with you, and I always disagree with everyone who does ES covers :).
There is one question I must ask. What did you use to create the sound from 2:00 to 2:05? It just sounds so great on the CD (and on this) and I'm wondering what instrument s he used.
Thanks for your positive comments.I believe the instrument your referring to is a "tack piano",it's actually a regular piano that has tacks stuck on the hammers to get that distinctive bright sound and it's often associated with 19th century saloon music from the old west(another example of a song that features the instrument is Rockey Raccoon by the Beatles). For my version I actually just applied some eq to my regular piano sound to simulate the sound of the original.
"Your amazingly talented - it would be great to also hear you do some of your own songs. Your probably the best out there who covers Nick Drake and I'm sure that you'd come up with songs just as good as the artists that you cover. You always do a great job! Thanks
wow. i like you playing . and your right that many Nick fans, are Elliott fans too ;-). Did you recorded 2.45 am, as well ? I m looking forward for new videos. all the best from germany
I just synced this video up with Sweet Adeline on XO... it's perfect. Utterly perfect. You could NOT have done a better job. Utterly brilliant, as all of your stuff is.
Hey,thanks again for your positive comments...the reason why it syncs up is because his version of this(and Son of Sam as well)was,to my surprise, recorded to a click and I'm using the same BPM as he is...recording with a click can very often make things sound a bit mechanical but it's a great tribute to his musicianship that he gave the original versions of these such a great elastic feel,I tried to emulate that as well as I could but of course it's always better with a live drummer.
Hey, while you're doing Elliot Smith.... Do ya happen to know "Easy Way Out" by any chance? This came out good, but I like your 'Son Of Sam' vid better.
Hey,good to hear from you, thanks again for all of your positive comments.Yeah, the recording aspect of it is actually the most fun for me,thanks for noticing.
Thanks very much for your positive comments.I just listen very closely and try to pick out what parts I can.The more you do it the better you get at it.
yeah i do that too with simpler songs, i didnt think you could pick out 5 seperate instruments though, that's really incredible, if you don't mind answering what program are you using to record, what operating system are you running on, and where do you get all those sounds? are you playing them on a keyboard or are those live instruments?
I'm running Logic on a mac.I play the guitar and bass parts on those instruments, everything else I play on keyboard using sounds from my Roland XV88 synth and from numerous plugins(BFD being the drum plugin for this one).
It goes without saying that you are an excellent performer with excellent taste. But I prefer the sound of just you and the guitar. When the "orchestra" broke in near the middle of the song I was slightly disappointed. It was all done well, but I think you're good enough that you can do without the production "enhancements" that are too frequently used in commercial music. Just a matter of taste, I guess.
Thanks for your comments.Actually that shocking, kaleidoscopic chorus is my favorite part. While I also love the intimacy and simplicity of hearing just guitar and voice the most fun of doing these vids is trying to pick out the fantastic arrangements on some of Nicks(and now these)songs and then attempt to replicate them in my home studio. But I realize it's not to everyones taste.
Thanks so much for positive comments and for catching my spelling error!I was half asleep when I finally got to post this so my brain wasn't working correctly.
