MY god Robert Taylor was so beautiful. I just finished watching another CAMILLE. starring COLIN FIRTH & GRETTA SCACHI. That was also great, but this one is so beautiful. They are both beautiful. The saddest love story I've ever read and seen .
@sweetaxi -- I agree with you. She was definitely robbed on account of politics in the Oscars in favor of Louise Rainer's performance in "The Good Earth". This is one of the worst omissions in the history of the Academy Awards. To name the other worst and idiotic omissions -- Citizen Kane (failed to win as Best Picture); Stanley Kubrick and Alfred Hitchcock (both failed to win as Best Director) and Bette Davis' performance in All About Eve
Garbo & Taylor we're pure PERFECTION in this scene. Such a great movie, I don't understand what happened to Hollywood... what happened to society for that matter? so much class and poise in those eras, and now, total trash.
Omg thank you soo much for this..garbo is in my opinion the finest actress that has ever lived..god i wish the world had more garbos and dietrichs n davis n crawford.these pple r so classy not all ghetto n welfare trash like now.
Quite possibly one of the most beautiful ending ever recorded on film. I've always wanted to watch it since Annie back in the early 80's. I love, love Camille. I was told to watch it alone, and I did. Thank Heavens I did. For anyone who has never seen it, you will need a box of tissues! Like Dark Victory, Bette Davis, Garbo here is hands down the greatest actress of her age. Maybe now too. It's a thing to see how Garbo brought to life Camille, just beautiful to watch.
@DiabolicalAngel Many people have commented on Garbo opening her eyes and looking up just before expiring at the end. Several swear they could almost see the soul leave the body in that look! Silly, of course, as Garbo didnt actually die, but still it gives the scene an extra dimension, as if her incredible talent didnt do enough for this film. This film really moved me when I first saw it, and that death scene was incredible!

They don't make film like this anymore. The whole film conveys to me how people can manipulate people to their own ends. The film is class. Garbo was a great actress, few would ever possess her professionalism. Her tragic roles that shed many tears back then still have the same affect 70 years on. This scene always moves me. I have this movie. uniques quotations. class. Thanks for uploading it
Camille is a spectacular movie!!! but about that scene i think that the end is different than the end of the book. Margarite died alone! Armand was at Alexandria. and he found out that margarite died from a letter.
I am so sorry that Garbo never attained the comeback she so deserved. She is to film what Callas was to opera, what Bernhardt was to theatre. It is said that Garbo was very keen on starring with Marilyn Monroe, who she deeply admired. Garbo also adored Barbra Streisand.
Just had to watch this, most fantastic film ever, again. It's so touching how sympathetic Nanine is to her!!! Forget about him - he's a waste of space - I'd just like to have a nurse like her whenever I'm ill.
I feel like such a pansy- I never cry during movies- but every time I see this, I bawl. Though the book has an absolutely tragic ending (she dies alone), this one is definately more cinematic, and, well, beautiful. That one last look she gives him before she closes her eyes... it's so perfect. It's a "he's really there" look.
Garbo's magnificent! I love this movie. However I wish they had also followed the Verdi opera Traviata plot. In the opera, Armand's father - who is the cause of Marguerite's unhappiness when he makes her give up Armand - returns to see the dying Marguerite and ask forgiveness & that he will bless her marriage to Armand. In this moive, Armand's father is completely cruel and is not moved by Marguerite's humanity & goodness.
There is no one like Garbo. She had everything : the genius, the beauty, the charisma, the personality, the mystique. To see her as "Camille" is to see heaven. She is heartbreaking, beautiful, beyond any words of description. Fragile, coquetish, tragic, romantic, magical, a divine dream.
one of the magnificent death scene ever!!! garbo is so divine... such a powerful performance like bette davis in dark victory and joan crawford in humoresque... soooo full of emotions...
What an amazing scene! Garbo was wonderful in this role. At times I wanted to whack Robert Taylor upside the head during this film, but he did a (mostly) good job playing Armand. If this death scene doesn't get the ole tears flowing, you need to get professional help!
I hate that guy! What an irritating, irritating guy - why couldn't he get his act together before! So true to life - seems like the only people who are moved to sympathise with the badly suffering, are those who cannot cope with the pain of their own pity, so that they have to keep retreating, until it's too late for them to have helped the person.
No it's not a dream...but what it some things come down to a dream ? Can you walk into your dream? Does one have what it takes to brush what doesn't matter and polish what is blurred to see the truth? ...Hmm
It is best to live in the hearts of others where the world can't hurt it, where it stays intact, where nothing could ruin a good thing.
kashmira1:Robert Taylor wasn't a drinker, he wasn't addicted to alcohol but to cigarette, this was what killed him. He practically was ill during the whole decade of 60, finally he died of lung cancer in 1969. His last years were very sad times for him and his family.
Hello there, sweet! As you see, I didn't follow your advice. SORRY, I simply couldn't resist. Now, I'm addicted. Ever since I bought her box set, I've been watching all her movies over and over. She's fabulous, Lu. Love her to pieces. Love you too. xxx

Her performance in Camille remains the most beautiful performance in film. Next time you see the film, just watch her: every gesture, every inflection in her voice. Why does Greta make that "Face" before she dies? Is there a medical reason for that..like the facial muscles contort or something? I'm just curious.

(Runner up, in 2nd place, is "Terminator 2: Judgement Day", so I'm really taking a lot into consideration here...)
