  • I love Veronica Lake but I don't know why is so difficult to find information about her. Veronica Lake had 3 children and they never wrote or had any interviews about their own mother. Also there are so many movies with Marilyn Monroe but none with this great actress. People in the past that had knew her don't like to share information. Kind of stranger

  • Yabba dabba doooooooooooooooo

  • Veronica is my great aunt. i have always wanted to become an actress so i have a really good chance because acting is in my blood.

  • @BffsShakinItUp I thought Veronica Lake was the only child according to her bio. She lost her father when she was only 9 years old. Her mother remarried but never had any other child.

  • @youfilha she did have a sister so yeah im proud to have her as my great aunt.

  • i love the fact that the reason for her trademark was that she had such different eyes..sher looked quite funny in some pictures because of that. she was really smart to invent this hairstyle. great woman!

  • Veronica's beauty is showcased magnificently in Flesh Feast (1970), during which she asks a gurney-strapped Adolf Hitler if he likes her little maggots. Sublime.

I think she was gratified to have an opportunity to display her love of country in play-acting the application voracious maggots to Adolf Hitler's flesh. Too bad this wasn't a porn flick, she could have been masturbating too.

Veronica handles the maggots deftly because she had practice, while living in alleys around Union Station.

  • They just don't make women like this anymore

  • She is beautiful!

  • i am related to veronica lake- in all seriousness- she was the cousin of my grandmother- so the relationship is rather slim- but it is there

  • oh she so pretty its a shame dat she have 2 cut her hair short and she was my fav actor in well next 2 whoopie goldburg :)

  • That's right. Jessica Rabbit based on Veronica Lake. "I am not naughty, I am just drawn that way" :)

  • Now days you can't get away with drinking and doing a 20 Million dollar movie, There's to much at stake and if you can't cut it there's always a new face that can. Back in the old days of John Wayne, Errol Flynn,, John Barrymore, WC Fields and others were heavy dirinkers and so they put up with it....and worked around their so called "sober moments" when they could get some good scenes out of them...the golden days are gone.

  • Unlike any other actress during Hollywood's Golden Age, Lake had a look that is contemporary by today's Hollywood standards. Can't say that about any other actress of that time - though many were beautiful, they looked of that time period - but not Lake.

  • who is the actor at 1:07? i want to say james mason but not sure.......

  • Veronica lake was said to have not only the most perfect hair, perfect legs, but also the most radiant, luminous skin in Hollywood. Jessica Rabbit, by the way, is based on Ms Lake. With high cheek-bones, a disarmingly beautiful smile, very few Hollywood starlets looked this poised, this majestic, as Veronica Lake. The scene in Sulliven's Travels, when Lake turns around in the Diner to serve the "hobo", is BEAUTY personified! Someone should post this up on a loop.

  • No music? She is gorgeous, my vote for best looking Hollywood starlet of all time!

  • When I see the beauty in this woman, I truly think about how we are all made in God's image.I wish she could have made a trip to Akron,Ohio to be treated for her alcoholism at St. Thomas.Dr. Bob would have gladly helped her with those 12 steps.

  • Love that end quote.

  • she look smart, and dependent :)

  • geekgirl310, If holywood would quit using so much CG for stunts and big scenes where hugh casts were used it would improve emencely. I will say some of the young actors i.e. Matt Damon, Brad Pitt,John Travolta etc.and others have improved so much over the years that they can now hold their heads up with the rest of old holywood favorites. Remember they'er at the mercy of the screen writers and directors. peace baby

  • I've collected most of her movies over the last few years. Some of them are pretty good, especially the film noir ones. My favorites though are probably "I Married a Witch" and "So Proudly We Hail". Her autobiography is an interesting read. I have it in paperback.

  • I just finished watching her in a Tales of Tomorrow TV episode from the 50's called Flight Overdue where he plays a very independent, self-absorbed, take me as I am test pilot. Her extremely short and dark hair really shocked me after always seeing her with long, blonde, peekaboo hairstyles, which I adored. I'm assuming this must have been one of her last acting roles, and she was very, very good in the part because I don't think she had to "act". I believe she was simply playing herself.

  • Kisses!

  • The good old days when women strived to look like Veronica Lake and men were vulgar and got tatoos like Pink..

  • Have you seen this video called " Gene Kelly\Cid|Charisse Opening A Colorful show" from Breton2Robert. WOW and the ending is crazy

  • How beautiful can one woman be? As Roy Orbison once said, In Dreams, only in beautiful dreams!!!

  • She was 4' 11 1/2". And despite what Russell Crowe said in LA Confidential, she was prettier than Kim Basinger.

  • Wow...she was gorgeous!!

  • Comment removed

  • she was really beautiful, like a adoll...so sad she ended her life so soon....

  • She was defenetly taller than many pin up girls, beautiful

  • I saw Sullivan's Travels a few years back and have been captivated by her. I wish so much that I could have met her. I get very sad and have had tears come to my eyes just thinking abut her and her travel thru life. She is my absolute favorite of all time. She had the WHOLE package, and I just loved her voice. As she said, she didn't use cheesecake, just her hair. Too bad the studios owned their contracts and made her do crap movies that ruined her career.

  • Whatever she is based, on that idiotic rabbit does have a peek-a-boo.

Probably Jessica Rabbit is an amalgam.

  • no one cares!

  • thats just so weird! Dont tell me...you have a nose, two eyes, 2 hands and a belly button like Veronica Lake had as well??

    Spooky.

  • hahah coincidence I THINK NOT

  • she reminds me of Jessica Rabbit is that just me?

  • Jessica Rabbit was based on Lake and Lauren Bacall

  • ooo thx 4 clearin that up

  • No she wasn't, she was based off Rita Hayworth, and poular pin-ups girls at the time, like Betty Grable.

  • Granted just because it's on Wikipedia doesn't make it true but it's safe to assume that Jessica Rabbit was a hybrid and Veronica Lake definitely was part of that hybrid.

  • Agreed.

  • @Nikki6590

who do you think Jessica was modeled after. actually i don't really know but it sounds good

  • @Nikki6590 -- Not just you...Jessica Rabbit was inspired by Veronica Lake! Her hairstyle was so popular during the 40s it was given a name...the peek-a-boo.

  • @Nikki6590

Jess's hair was consciously modeled on Lake's hair, I read somwehere

  • @Nikki6590 jessica rabbit was based off mainly veronica lake and marilyn monroe:)

  • @Nikki6590 As soon as I first saw jessica Rabbit I thought of Varonica Lake. That was definately her hair style ! I havent seen many of her films so I don't know of she played the sexy hottie that J.R. did thanks to the old time cartoonists( don't think CG was that well developed by Roger Rabbit time)..See ya giorgio8491

  • @Nikki6590 The Character was actually based on Veronica Lake, so you're not alone ;)

  • @Nikki6590 actually Jessica Rabbit was based of Veronica, so its no shock that she reminds you.

  • @Nikki6590 Jessica rabbit is based off of Veronica Lake. ;)

  • @Nikki6590 Jessica Rabbit is partly based on veronica, that's why

  • @Nikki6590 She was one of the inspirations for Jessica Rabbit.

  • @Nikki6590 They've been inspired by her, it was intended.

  • @Nikki6590 Jessica Rabbit was based on Veronica Lake and Jessica Rabbit

  • @luenaiya **sorry Rita Hayworth

  • jessica rabbit WAS MODELED AFTER HER !!...

  • i love her hair, but it seems sometimes like the ends of her hair were a little brittle or dry...i wonder how she made those waves on her hair...

  • my hair is like that only brown and u use a curling iron

  • She's only 4,11" or 5' max. a very short lady indeed but imo that only makes her more cute!

  • she is beautiful...

  • My hair is like that but its red

  • that would be pretty!

  • Really? My names Dave :)

  • a great personality i had read of her ...i am 15

  • Veronica and my grandmother were cousins. They came out to California together from Brooklyn. But my Grandmother doesn't like to talk about Veronica or her past, so I don't have any storys .

Does anyone know about the book Veronicas mother wrote?

  • She talks about her cousin Helen in her autobiography.

  • my hair is like that but brown and straight

  • I love you Veronica.

  • 2:45 ...OMG, i think that's one of the most charming shoots ever made. She puts a spell on me!

  • I think Marilyn Monroe and Veronica Lake are both beautiful and talented woman in their own ways. Hollywood sucks crap right now. Bring back the good old days.

  • @geekgirl310 i wish sharon tate would come back also :(

  • @geekgirl310 I agree; the old glamorous Hollywood style; that's what it was all about. I wish I had been born back then and young back then!!! Bring back the good old days!!! (And I want to remain young through the 50s (remember the ice-crushers??? LOL, the sixties....the sex, drugs, clothes, moon, and music, and the seventies...more sex, drugs, and music with a big fat Disco Ball!!!) LOL

  • Veronica was one of my favorite ladies of the film. During the war, one of my buddies had a picture of her in his wallet. She died in 73, I believe. God bless her. Gramps

  • Grea' vid' of a beautiful dame.5*****

  • I love the Veronica Lake hair style. Best hollywood hair EVER. The coolest hair style on a female movie star ever. Veronica Lake and Rita Hayworth had the best hair.

  • Without a doubt, Veronica Lake was in the top 5 of the most beautiful women to ever appear on the silver screen.

  • what is that song,it's actually very pretty-and great job-this isn't poorly made :)

  • Bette Davis once said Veronica Lake was the most beautiful woman to ever come to Hollywood. Just read Peekaboo, The Story of Veronica Lake by Jeff Lenburg. So sad. Thanks pesoto74 for a moving tribute to this lady.

  • Great pictorial review of the much missed Veronica Lake, with a perfect Coltrane accompaniment. For those of you unfamiliar with her movies, I would recommend Sullivan's Travels and This Gun for Hire. Always smart, tough and saucy, she was the perfect Brooklyn girl. Sadly, her serious film career was virtually finished by 1948.

  • I'd never heard of Veronica Lake until Aaliyah spoke of her. Thats where she got her style of wearing her hair over her eye and she would use her name when checking into hotels so fans wouldnt know where she was staying. Veronica Lake was a very beautiful woman. R.I.P. 2 the both of u. Aaliyah and Veronica Lake

    Peace & Blessings

    C.

  • Wow, that's where Aaliyah got her style from? I never knew that! Veronica was beautiful and talented indeed.

  • ..I'm workin REALLY hard for come back in time and save her ! I've fallen in love... MAMMA MIAAAA!!!

  • nice

  • OMG I love her and the song in the video is so great =)

  • How many "actresses" are this cool in our modern society. She is known for the peep-aboo.

Some of her movies make me wish I was a young stud in Hollyweird in those days so I could nail her.

She was a true "broad" and could accept that sentiment.

  • 2.19 is so... Pretty!!

  • bad girl Veronica...

  • @MaddZzee350 I think her nickname in real life, according to her autobiography, was "Connie", as her real name was Constance. She was known as Constance Keane. The name Veronica Lake was invented by a studio head based on her eyes being as "blue as a lake".

  • @balerick48 Thanks for clearing that up for me. What a gal she was!

  • She was gorgeous.

  • Ellington and Coltrane like Gaguin and Van gohg

  • Her career was almost a duplicate of "Samson", as he was being done in by Delilah, as she cut his hair and his power went. So that is what happened to her. Her hairdo was her only fame. Once the government told her to cut her hair short, because of world war 2. Many women were working in factories, where having long hair was a hazard...her career went south. Somehow looking at these pictures, an actress today comes to mind ...Lucy Liu of Charley's Angels.

  • She was as good looking as it gets, better than Marilyn MONroe. PARADE Magazine mentioned her a couple weeks ago.

And what a perfect name; did they call her "Ronnie"?

Ronald Boo-Boo Lane aka Ronnie 'The Lake' Good-Snake (all snakes are good, let them slide free)--as free as Veronica Lake lived.

  • no one will compare to marilyn! but all those old hollwood actors and actresses where in a whole other league than ANY of todays' so called "actors and actresses"

  • But, chocky bun-bun, Veronica "Ronnie" Lake was better looking than Marilyn MONRoe. Yes, we all know why Marilyn left them all in the dust, even Ronnie.

I'd be happy with a life with Ronnie, as she blasayes down the avenue. We need a Twilight Zone to bring her back.

  • I love this Duke Ellington Music

  • I LOVE this video-it SUCH a beautifully perfect and perfectly beautiful masterpiece! Veronica Lake was an extremely, extraordinarily gorgeous person! My hair truly does naturally look exactly like that! She has such an exquisite face and the hairstyle complemented it in such a lovely manner =D! I ADORE the Coltrane you set this to! This is AMAZINGLY GREAT : D! The tribute is FAULTLESS!

  • I apologize for my typo :D

    *it is such

  • 2:18 - whose the actor to her right (and our left)?

  • I think it is Alan Ladd.

  • You're correct...it is Alan Ladd. They starred in seven films together at Paramount in the early to mid 40s including: The Glass Key,

This Gun for Hire, and The Blue Dahlia. Part of the reason they were paired together so often was because Alan was only 5'5" and she was 4'11".

  • What part of Brooklyn was she from?

  • Thank's great stuff.

  • Beauty is not just skin deep! This was a gorgeous woman, not found in Hollyweird today!! Bring back those good old days with Carol Lombard, Louise Brooks, Dolores Costello, Alice White, and my favorite Dona Drake! Thanks for this beautiful tribute!! Regards, Gary

  • i hate when people say beauty is only skin deep you only want it to be skin deep, what do you want a beautiful intestines!

  • i think she's way better looking than marilyn monroe

  • BEAUTIFUL.........! wish i looked like HER...

  • Ilove the way you put together the pictures with the music. Loved it alot thanks

  • You really rock!!

    I loved what you created.

    Thanks.

    Peace!!!!

  • Wow. John Coltrane and Veronica. Thank you

  • cool music!!anybody know the title of the song?

  • The song is "In A Sentimental Mood" played by Duke Ellington and John Coltrane.

  • her movie, I Married a Witch became the tv show Bewitched

she is my all time favorite blonde

  • I remember her beauty, from late night televised movies, in the Los Angeles area. (1970s...) Gorgeous. Very much like Kim Basinger.

  • Beautiful, i'm glad you made this video. Thank you.

  • Excellent.

  • A class act; These current celebocrities( paris hilton,Maddonna, lindsey lohan ad nauseum) are gaudy nothings compared to the great old movie starlets;Bring back talent AND genuine sex appeal!

  • Thank you, that was a wonderful. You did a great job for a great lady. I fell in love with her as a kid.

  • PS: Outstanding video tribute.

  • I remember seeing Veronica Lake in a movie as a boy in the 1950's. I was struck by her stunning natural beauty. She was a truly gorgeous woman and a talented actress.

  • I first saw Veronica Lake in some old Life magazines when I was a kid. I fell in love with her, what a doll.

  • stunning!

  • Beautiful woman! Just watched I Married A Witch and read her biography "Peekaboo". Sad life for someone so talented.

  • Wonderful tribute to Veronica. It seems to me she is very overlooked these days.

  • I love it! Very Classy, Veronica Lake rocks! Well done.

  • oh my god,bellissimo!

  • i love her

  • I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please view my clip of some rare 1930's movie star cards, including Veronica Lake , Judy Garland, Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Frank Sinatra, Gregory Peck, Errol Flynn,

Ronald Regan, Lauren Bacall, Bing Crosby and many more.

  • One of the most beautiful women to ever come to Hollywood. Just lovely.

  • Well done, very classy.

  • Wonderful tribute to the iconic miss Lake and the great music made it all so atmospheric. Thankyou.

  • Well this is the best "slideshow-tribute" I have seen on youtube so far.

    Thanks you very much :)

  • The song is "In A Sentimental Mood" played by Duke Ellington and John Coltrane.

  • Hey, the backing music on this is pretty good, and way more appropriate to one of these tribute videos than the ones usually used. Wonder what it is, by whom.

  • what a beautiful woman!

thank you for this video! :)

  • Nice tribute. One of my faves in Hollywood history...

  • Gr8... VERONICA LAKE!

    Thanks for this tribute.

  • She's so gorgeous, she reminds me of Jessica Rabbit!

  • the reason why she reminds you of Jessica Rabbit, is because the cartoonist modeled J.R.'s hair style after Veronica's hair and facial expressions.

  • amazing veronica lake tribute

  • Thank you for that nice comment.
