I have never had luck installing Ubuntu alongside Windows XP. Over time one of them becomes corrupted and will not boot. Is this version correcting that?
I'm actually watching this vid on Ubuntu 10.04 ....I'm running it within windows. It's really good. No issues with music and videos , unlike older versions which were notoriously flakey.
thank u... but im having truble intalling ubuntu.. 1. burned it into a cd, booted from it cd, and clicked install. but its not detecting my windows 7 already on the hard disk. so i cant install it along side my win 7. so i tried wubi. it did half the stuff. rebooted, booted into ubuntu n continued installation. then it stopped saying no root file in partition or something. !!! help me ... i just googled this.. lot of ppl r hvng same issues, but nobody has answers...
@jonze55 Humm, looks like you are going to need the GParted CD to boot up with and correct the partition problems you have. A wubi install of Ubuntu creates a small hidden area for Ubuntu, this area seems to be the issue with your install.
@nollz69 Just insert the CD, restart your computer, it'll show up, and you could either delete windows and use this instead, or you could put it alongside with windows.
@jjchucho Yes, when you boot from the Ubuntu CD you have an option to TRY Ubuntu without installing it. Also you can install Ubuntu as an application within windows using the CD, there is an option called WUBI
if I install it parallel with xp service pack 2 do I need to install drivers I already have in xp sp2, for exapmle printer driver or other drivers, or it will work witout installing them????!!!!!!!!!!
@16Sabon it should work, ubuntu is pretty good at finding your driver's, and I have alot of hardware driver's on my Desktop PC....ie Wireless Network card, Card Reader's, dual Hard Drives, HDDVD, HP Printer, I didn't have to configure anything....but I did have to activate the driver for my Nvidia card....that's about it....my laptop was a little more difficult I had to configure the wireless.....
@PikachuownPichu You can run Microsoft Office via WINE if you wish, but at the moment there is version of MS Office that will run native on Linux distributions.
i hav been using ubuntu for 10days i know all the compiz functions but the problem is ubuntu doesnt recognize my Intel 950 GMA graphics card !!!! plz help

@Numb3rNinee Yes! Google Dual Boot Windows Ubuntu for detailed instructions, the ones from the ubuntu official sites are the best.

I have never had luck installing Ubuntu alongside Windows XP. Over time one of them becomes corrupted and will not boot. Is this version correcting that?

Ubuntu is great! I installed 8.04 on a family computer a couple years ago and everyone in the house loves it :)

!!! help me ... i just googled this.. lot of ppl r hvng same issues, but nobody has answers...
jonze55 1 year ago
@jonze55 Humm, looks like you are going to need the GParted CD to boot up with and correct the partition problems you have. A wubi install of Ubuntu creates a small hidden area for Ubuntu, this area seems to be the issue with your install.

@PCWizKid do i loose my files or programs if i get ubuntu ?
nollz69 1 year ago
@nollz69 not if you dual boot- with WUBI installer (for windows) or separate partition
mrelpeno 1 year ago
@nollz69 if you run it via "WUBI" - installing it "within" windows and can be removed anytime - you wont lose any file.
tjvistan85waver 1 year ago
@tjvistan85waver I wanna replace windows with it
nollz69 1 year ago
@nollz69 Just insert the CD, restart your computer, it'll show up, and you could either delete windows and use this instead, or you could put it alongside with windows.

I was wondering if the only way to "try" ubuntu (without installing) is with the cd version?
jjchucho 1 year ago
@jjchucho Yes, when you boot from the Ubuntu CD you have an option to TRY Ubuntu without installing it. Also you can install Ubuntu as an application within windows using the CD, there is an option called WUBI
PCWizKid 1 year ago
@jjchucho You can setup a LiveUSB so you can boot up Ubuntu from your USB flash drive :)

hey i have a question..........
if I install it parallel with xp service pack 2 do I need to install drivers I already have in xp sp2, for exapmle printer driver or other drivers, or it will work witout installing them????!!!!!!!!!!

This has been flagged as spam show
@16Sabon yes you would
meekoman25 1 year ago
@16Sabon it should work, ubuntu is pretty good at finding your driver's, and I have alot of hardware driver's on my Desktop PC....ie Wireless Network card, Card Reader's, dual Hard Drives, HDDVD, HP Printer, I didn't have to configure anything....but I did have to activate the driver for my Nvidia card....that's about it....my laptop was a little more difficult I had to configure the wireless.....

Can you install Microsoft Office into Ubuntu? Or does it not allow you to do that and you are required to use Open Office?
PikachuownPichu 1 year ago
@PikachuownPichu I'm pretty much sure that OpenOffice is really the alternative for MicrosoftOffice ;)
gelot13 1 year ago
@PikachuownPichu You can run Microsoft Office via WINE if you wish, but at the moment there is version of MS Office that will run native on Linux distributions.
