To see the differences between the 47 and 74 go to CenterfireSystems. They have both the WASR2 and Bulgarian74 for sale.

Look at the gas blocks, front sight, and muzzle attachments.

Now look at the WASR10 and WASR2. They are the same rifle excluding the magazine and caliber.

5.45mm was invented by the Russians in 1974. AK-74 was chambered for it. Not the 47. EVER. Plus my gun has a forward cycling piston...that was not in any AK-47 design ever.

Like I said before the difference between an AK47 and AK74 is more than just the caliber.

I think its great that your rifle came in 5.45x39 but that does not change what type of rifle it is.

You rifle has a 45 degree gas block not a 90. You have a 47 front sight. It's missing the threaded extension for 24mm 74 muzzle brakes.

The only difference between the SAR-1 and SAR-2 is the caliber and magazines.

What you're doing is the same as calling a PSL a Dragunov.

@Extra08 by definition, as soon as the barrel is resleaved from 7.62 to 5.45 the gun becomes an AK-74. so without even purchasing a new weapon you can technically change your 47 to a 74. even if there are some design similarities, the caliber of the weapon (in this case) determines the style. That's the one big difference...caliber. even when there are design similarities. lets agree to disagree because you will not convince me.

This clearly shows that this is an AK74, because the magazine is much more straight. And it should also be clear not to argue with the person who has the gun, considering he HAS the gun.

It's not a kit gun. That's mostly how CAI gets them. They just add some USA made parts and open up the magwell.

CAI imports parts kits as well as rifles. They build some of the parts kits, sell others, and farm out build work then brand it as their own.

Importation of AK47s/74s is legal in the US as long as they meet the sporting purposes clause. Zastava PAP and Bulgarian single stack AK-47s fall into the sporting purposes clause. Saigas are the way they are because of a deal we have with Russia. They are still considered an AK variant but they are so neutered they get around the deal.
