It doesn't really matter to find out why he lives the same day again again. I think the point of the movie is to make everyone who watches it think on his/her own way and connect it with his own experiences. A point that has been successfully accomplished.

i am of the opinion that there is´n really a moral. i think it is the perfect circle. the story starts with the same scene it ends with. the protagonist din not attain anything. he lives only the same passage all the time. it could be that he is really mentally ill, ore a drug addict, or it is just a metaphor to the life itself...living the same life again and again
