I guess you could describe the tapped coil as "bright"... I would just say it sounds thin, lifeless and too trebly. It sounds like if you turned the volume knob down on the guitar, but also the bass on the amp. Thanks for the video though, now I know what NOT to do to my guitar LOL
It sounds more like a standard strat bridge pickup. I actually dislike the settings at either extreme, and I usually run the blend knob somewhere in the middle. To me, the full power setting sound lifeless also.
Good stuff man! I always look forward to seeing new uploads by you, when I hop on YouTube,. Just wanted to say your uploads / lessons / info vids are appreciated.
A little request.... What are the odds of uploading a lesson for "Rock and Roll Cowboys" by the Cooper Brothers? :D.... that would be sick man, love that tune, haha.
FYI.... I never get tired of listening to your voice. I always learn something. Thanx.

Thank you so so much! This was so helpful! I wonder if you can order a gibson 57 classic or classic + that way?

did gilmour use it tapped?

@PANICBLADE
It's just a guess, but I don't think his was tapped. He tended to use the other pickups most of the time, and just use the bridge pickup for leads.
That's just my opinion.

Yes, I didn't make it clear enough.
The SSL-5 is the only one that's tapped. I was just using the other pickups to compare it to, and to show how it mixes with standard Strat pickups.

EXTREMELY helpful vid. The Fralin-esque blender is a great mod in concert with the tapped SSL-5. Thanks so much for this.
