okay to get this straight: I am German but I am a damn good English student. and I watched that movie in English (at least that's what I thought). then I paused it because I didn't get a word, and thought it might be a different language. turns out it's English, but with a Scottish accent. Dear Scottish people, if we ever meet, please speak slowly and clearly. Thank you! the movie was great by the way ;D and I now love the accent, but it's still hard to understand hah

oh gerry...back when your accent was still scottish and you were an unknown actor XD this seriously is his best performance. this movie was so sweet and endearing and yet heartbreakingly sad at the same time. i'll never get tired of it. :)

At the end of the movie, I thought The Stranger was going to come to the dock...and sit with them 2. But then...the damn credits. But great movie. Gerard Butler is so cuhyute! Ohh. I'm gettin it on Netflix, so I can't wait to see it again.

what did lizzie mean when she told "the stranger" that frankie "wasn't born deaf it was a present from his father" i realize that the father was abusive but how did he DEAFEN his son?

@TechnoJuliet My thought was that he hit Frankie to the point it deafened him. If he got hit by his ears, it could have injured his eardrum and cause deaf. But I'm really not sure what the father did to deafen him. Great movie. I watched it without subs and got used to the accents. Glad I did it that way the first time around, it's a better experience without reading constantly.

I watched this film purely for Gerard Butler, but was pleasantly surprised to find it was a lovely film all around. An interesting, very sweet storyline, portrayed by an excellent cast. I'd love to find a copy to own.

GB is lush, I love to hear his pure scots accent...very sexy. I was a little dismayed to hear, when he was interviewed on UK tv, that with him now spending most of his time in the US, he has adopted this strange scots/American accent :( He needs to spend more time in Paisley ;-)

Thank you for posting this! It is so hard to find online. I love this movie.

I first saw the trailer on a DVD, and it was the first time I'd ever seen Gerard Butler in anything...well, there was the Phantom of the Opera trailer, but that didn't count because it's really hard to follow if you're not familiar with the musical. Anyway, it was the first time I saw him, and I was stunned to find out he was also in The Phantom of the Opera and 300...okay, I'll stop talking now. I LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!
