"That's All Right" is the name of the first single released by Elvis Presley, written and originally performed by blues singer Arthur Crudup as "That's All Right, Mama". Elvis' version was recorded in July 1954, and released on 19 July 1954 with "Blue Moon of Kentucky" as the B-side.
Not only does this prove Elvis was making records before Berry, it also proves the essential pieces of rock n roll were put together and developed before he was known.
& from Little Richard himself, who agrees Rock N Roll was a fushion/intergration of white and black music "He was an integrator, Elvis was a blessing. They wouldn't let black music through. He opened the door for black music."
The fact you admit the stones are not the be all and end all and are merley prolific like many other rock n roll acts just shows even you really know how weak your argument is. Cliff Richard and The Beatles both did more for British music than they and they both proclaim Elvis as the greatest, and it was Mick Jagger who also said "even the men thought Elvis was sexy, I hate to think what the women were thinking".
Merely and prolific do not go together, if you want to play with words then don't bother me with it please. By the way, what the hell has 'sexy' got to do with 'good music'?
They do where you're being compared to Cliff, Elvis and The Beatles!
Also, Jagger was refering to the music and peformance of Presley when he said that, and if you would like I can post countless more quotes from Jagger and Richard about how great Elvis is and how much he influenced their music!
You said yourself that the Stones (including Jagger no doubt) were not the end all of music) NOW you hold his comments in great esteem...I told you before and I will have to tell you again..OPINIONS!
I never said I hold them in great esteem, you're the one who brought the stones into it to try and defame Presley. The fact is it backfired on you and you clearly know nothing about music history. History shows Elvis to be the most influential singer of all-time, that's not my opinion, that's fact based on impact, popularity and influence.

You are ALMOST correct, let me ask you this, is the sky blue? Is that a 'fact' OR merely a 'perception'? What is a 'fact'? Is it no more than a popularly assumed perception? And by the way, when you call someone an 'ignoramous' that IS an INSULT...or at least percieved as one by me.
Ignoramus means youre being ignorant. The fact Presley is the most influential is not based on perception, it's based on how long his music has lasted, the impact it had, and how popular it remains (still the most listened to music on earth to this very day) and statements by artists such as the Beatles, cliff, the who and the stones, and thus can be qualified and backed up, it's not just a perception on my part - far from it!
Ever heard of Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt or Rossini?? They are probably the most listened to music of all time, never mind Presley...so why don't you cry for the REAL classics?
I doubt that, how many make the effort year upon year to see their birth place, the first place they played, or their home? Very few, if any, yet we all know with Presley they do. You can not prove these acts are the most listened to of all-time, but Presley can be based on world-wide radio play (none of that around when those composers were at their peak), tv play (more than 1 billion people watched a presley tv special broadcast live) and album sales!
At least you 'doubt' it...it is not a 'fact' then..? Don't forget that the REAL classics were around many years before pop man Presley, NOTHING is 'provable' my friend and that is why we are wasting our time in this pointless discussion.....
But things are "proveable" as I just showed... the "real classics" may have been around before Presley, but a billion people at once never heard them, and they only reached a small part of the world in their time compared to Presley!
actually the king in my mind was and still is Jerry Lee Lewis...Elvis to me personally just didn't rank..kind of like the original Shakin Stevens...YUK!
You may not think Elvis hit the mark in your own view, which is fine, I can agree to differ, but he earned the title the king not through anyone's one opinion, he earned that for being the single most influential figure in the genre, more acts than any other (the beatles and cliff included) have acknowledged Elvis as their biggest influence.
and punk Jackson was the prince?? Too many titles amongst them and not enough pure talent...you wanna talk about single most influence, maybe you mentioned them already, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Solomon Burke....I don't hear the stones doing Presley...
I've never heard Jackson called the prince of rock n roll, although they did call him the king of pop in the 80s (and he was the #1 pop peformer of that decade). So they Stones apparently never coverd an Elvis hit. The stones aren't the be all and end all of Rock and seeing as Elvis was cutting discs before Little Richard and Chuck Berry, and also far more influetial than Burke, your argument does not stack up. You can belittle Elvis all you want, it won't alter the facts.
I agree the Stones aren't the be all and end all BUT they are prolific in what they do...regarding facts, PLEASE 'research properly' before you tell me the 'facts' of who did what first...even in the world of music, the white man robbed the coloured man, and for the record I am white. Thanks for your participation anyway..
Infact the book of rock lists states the claim rock n roll was stolen from the black man is the highest form of ignorance, rock n roll was actually a fusion of white music (country and western) and the black blues and gospel. gospel itself grew out of religious music that had been around for years, and was mainly white, so don't think I haven't done my reaserch, because i've gone back further than you.
I don't follow others opinions, If i did I'd listen to ignoramus' like you. When I was in high school is was totally unfashionable for me to like Elvis or Cliff, and many other great rock n rollers, yet I liked what I thought to be good music, which was rock n roll, and without Elvis we would have never had his good music, or cliff or the beatles!
According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's website, "While no individual can be said to have invented rock and roll, Chuck Berry comes the closest of any single figure to being the one who put all the essential pieces together."
Cub Koda wrote, "Of all the early breakthrough rock & roll artists, none is more important to the development of the music than Chuck Berry. He is it's greatest songwriter, the main shaper of it's instrumental voice, one of it's greatest guitarists, possessing the clearest diction, and one of it's greatest performers."
John Lennon was more succinct: "If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it 'Chuck Berry'."
I don't care what Koda wrote. what I care about are the facts. Without Elvis Presley knocking down the doors, acts like Berry and Richard would still be rememberd as great, but not as great as they are now. If Chuck Berry was so great then home come the bottom fell out of his career in the 60s and apart from a shity novelty song called my ding a ling, he never had another major hit. Presley had major hits in both the 60s and 70s, heck, he had more hits in the 70s alone than Berry ever had!
@Babyhowdy233 after watching john Lennon's live studio performance with Chuck Berry elsewhere here on youtube I watched to 2 most out of tune musicians I may have ever heard, Chuck plays his solos out of tune and Lennon takes his solo in the wrong key & Lennons band are a bunch of un-melodic hippies that sound like they'd never played rock&Roll before(shoot that bass player),after watching all that i lost my respect for anything Lennon said.
which featured Johnny Johnson on piano, Jerome Green (from Bo Diddley's band) on the maracas, Jasper Thomas on the drums and Willie Dixon on the bass. "Maybellene" sold over a million copies, reaching #1 on Billboard's Rhythm and Blues chart and #5 on the Hot 100.
No he didn't, he said Berry was the greatest songwriter in rock n roll, but he credited Elvis was his main inspration. He became a musicain because of Elvis, not Berry. As did both Paul McCartney and George Harrison.
Presley shaped Rock N Roll to what it became today. He made it more than the flavour of the month, he turned in into the most dynamic and legendry format of all time.
I don't need to dream, it's reality. More people go to Graceland each year than Jerry Lee Lewis could ever dream of performing to in a year, and more people see Elvis tribute shows than go and see Cliff Richard's tour, Presley's music is still the most listend to around the globe. His impact and influence will live on forever. It's you who's constantly in denial and dreaming, I have no problem with the reality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is all about being a follower then? Right now we have an idiot for president, look how many followers he has currently...many! .......it is NOT about following or being insipid..it is my friend about 'GOOD MUSIC' well performed and that is where elvis fell short compared to many others...
Complete nonsence. We live in a democracy, not a dictator ship which says a lot. Besides, polatics and music are hardly the same thing. Good music lasts forever, which is why Elvis is still as relevant in the 2000s as he was in the 1950s, politics moves on a day to day basis. You are not the final say on what is good music, Elvis' legacy will speak for itself, long after you and I are gone!
I don't know where you live BUT if it is the USA then our democracy is fast fading my friend...in YOUR opinion Elvis is still relevant, in mine he is not...simple as that, don't get so excited.
No it's not my opinion he is still relevant, That is fact. The thousands upon thousands that still pay money to see the tribute shows, the many millions who still listen to the music, the millions more who all these years on who continue to discover it, and his influence on music. These are all facts, not based on any opinion, but fact. You may "think" he is not relevant ,when he very much is, which just shows your ignorance.
Guess whole else has made strong judgements? Donald Trump. Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett... they didn't get to where they are today without strong judgements, nor did the vast majority of successful people.
Now try reading before you speak, I mentioned the word 'choices' as opposed to 'judgements' go back and look you will see, by the way I am a litle tired of you trying to teach me all this pointless dribble...enjoy your week
If you're "getting tired" then feel free to take a rest and not bother me with your dross. You said "judgements" originally, and then said you would asses the choice, to which I responded after you assess them you still need to form a judgement, and you agreed!
First off it was YOU that insited on bothering me, and then quickly proceeded to insulting, and if you think what I say is 'dross' then why are you so insistent on further bothering me? As for the mumbled last paragraph above, please try to read it again(very carefully) and see exactly what I said, OK I will take you up on your offer...I will not respond further to you wasting my time. It's been fun!
Anyone who has to post a "farewell" post about how they won't reply any more just shows how their argument holds no water and is one final attempt to have the final word and win a debate they have shown no real argument in. Anyone can see you said judgements first, the choices, then agreed with me about choices needing to be judged. BTW if you don't want to be botherd by those who will disagree with your dross then don't come to an online commuity that has millions of members!
I see you want to keep it going then? So your suggestion was NOT genuine, OK..lets argue over opinions for the unforseeable future, I have NO problem with satisfying your OBVIOUS ego shortages..FIRST though please do NOT alter what I have said before, I will not go over the same point so that you can attempt to change its context...the basis of all this has been simply this..'we each have opinions and we disagree' WHY can't you live with that?
Anyone can read your previous posts and see what you said and agreed with, to that end I don't need to defend that anymore, as the whole world can see, making you look rather stupid, but that's not a suprise. BTW all I said was if you don't want to post replies anymore you don't have too, who's the one with the ego shortages? I'm not the one who keeps coming back posting about how I don't want to keep replying! .. carry on... i like laughing at your stupidness! It's almost entertaining!
Well I doubt anyone would want to look at the dribble we have shared, in any case you can always read into a thing anything that you want as YOU know, as I said before you show your terrible weakness by your continued insults, but that is ok you are still young with a lot to learn about life(not ancient like me.) You have far too many denials in your comments...
You're the one getting personal, I just made remarks about your comments and I will not sink to your level as I don't want to waste my time trading personal insults with someone I thankfully don't know. It's hard to read things into the simple replies you gave, it's not poltical debate or some long winded post, it was two one line posts from you that are crystal clear.
I have not insulted you to this point, just read back your remarks and you will see..anyway it has got incredibly boring.....nothing is fact, nothing is proven. nobody is a winner, nobody is a loser..what else?????
You tried to make this about age (technically, that is personal). Now, you have brought that to the fore I will comment on that. You think your older age makes you wiser than me, but like you said you are ancient, so surely that makes you senile not wiser? The original argument here anyway was about Elvis Presley being the king, a title he will be known by long after this back and forth is over.
Wrong again...I did not try to make it about age I was simply stating the difference between us in that regard, as for wiser I also think it is not always the case, I do NOT claim to be wiser, as for senile NOT YET thankfully.., I agree that Presley may be known as the king(and for a long time), but like I said way back at the beginning it is just opinons...enjoy your day.
But it's not opinions, you even admit he is known as the king and he got that status because of his success and influence, based on historic fact. It is opnion whether or not his music is the best and I never contested that, but the fact he is known as the king is not an opinion (again even you just stated such).
Yes I admit he is 'known' by some as the king, HOWEVER that does not make it a fact of any kind...those who refer to him as king have surely that opinion of him...that is all...enjoy your day.
It's not an opinion, it's based on historic fact and influence, that's why he is the king, not just regarded it by "some", but by music historians, many of whom do not regard him as their personal favorite, but know about the history of rock n roll, understand his vast influence and have reached that conclsuion based on fact, nothing to do with an opinion. I could claim in my opinion Jason Donovan is the all time king of music, but that argument wouldn't hold up much water with historic fact!
Here we go again, there are NO FACTS......'music historians' also have opinions and biases just like ALL other humans..Let me remind you that once upon a time it was considered a FACT that the earth was 'flat'...
At the end of the day, it seems to me, we all have our opinions. The only way we can settle things is by using facts. Like it or not, Elvis sold many tens ( if not hundreds of ) millions more records than Cliff Richard. And Cliff sold many millions more records than the vast majority of other artists. Will that do ? I doubt it !
Cliff joined Olivia Newton-John's Breast Cancer Campaign raising funds: GreatWalkBeijing2008! You can check the website or yt! We're so proud of our Cliff!
As a matter of fact CL is one of the most successful recording artists there ever was, globally. I don`t particularly like his music, but I have to live with it. Ha ha !
Yes, you must live with that...Sir Cliff is here strong as ever celebrating his 50th anniversary in showbizz. But you could live not posting comments about Sir Cliff Richard. My opinion, of course!!!HAHA...my frind made you laugh...you make me laugh..shame really!!!!
Cliff, yeah its the first british 45 that rocked thanks to Cliff's homage to all things Elvis and the mean backing by the Shadows. Cliff will tell you there's only one man that paid enough dues to wear the thorny crown of Rock ' N Roll and that is Elvis.
A Cliff fan, obviously. Nowt wrong with that. He was quite good. But to compare him with Elvis is laughable. Except maybe his acting was as good as - which doesn`t say much !
An Elvis fan, obviously.Elvis was called the King of rock´n´roll. But he was not a king in life. The way he lived and died was so misarable:( Singers, actors and so on are public figures and loved for many young people. They have the obligation to have a resctuful life. Yes, I am a Cliff fan and do have proud being a fan of an amazing man...a KING IN LIFE!
I don`t know when people started to Call Evis `King` - but it was certainly well before 1977. Go out into the street and ask 100 people who is the King of Rock `n` Roll. Take particular notice of how many say Cliff Richard.
And ps. Don`t do the survey outside a Cliff Richard convention ( or Elvis convention )just to be fair.
Earlier in this conversation you said: He WAS quite good. What a pity you probably have never seen his performances in the 80's, 90's and the shows he gave this century! Yes, he still is alive and kicking! Better look at them once (enough on YT), and, even if you don't like him, you must admit he is really good! Come on!
I do like Cliff. I`m just teasing. There are some great songs he did. I particularly like The Young Ones. And was really impressed by Devil Woman when it was released.
Elvis' music just before his death tho was pretty dire not a patch on the early Sun recordings.Cliff has always acknowledged the influence that Elvis was on him, luckily though only musically!?
Hi friend. Music history tells the world who is Sir Cliff Richard. No need to tell that to some users here ´cos they know that and all they are doing is showing how stupid they can be. If they do not like Cliff at all, what are they doing here????
I think Cliff respects Elvis, and I have nothing against him too! But, hey if you don't like Cliff, why don't you go enjoy watching Elvis clip and leave us alone! We all think Cliff is the best!
I`m here because I like the music. What possible advantage would it be to me to be here if I didn`t like the music ? See my profile and you`ll discover I like all sorts of music. You seem only to like Cliff - that`s fine for you. I like Cliff AND others.
WRONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG...my channel also had many Sting and John Legend clips. You Tube deleted all of them...only have one Sting clip now. I like music! How could I be a Cliff fan if I did not hear other singers and bands???...read my profile and you´ll know it! oh...also meet Sir Cliff a couple of times and he is really amazing, nice and kind...
Hi Nazabraga. Sometimes YT does make videos unavailable ( or maybe the artist / company who produced it - I don`t know ). Anyway, I`ve found that if you wait a while - a few weeks or whatever - you can sometimes retrieve them. Hope this info may be useful.
The man's longevity is so amazing! This song would have been considered an oldie back then (12 years before I think), but this very clip is 37 years old itself! And he's STILL going. Respect to the great performer!
This is the only surviving episode from three series of BBC's Its Cliff Richard which aired 1970-1972. Thats 40 shows in total - 39 of them wiped!
However Ive seen a clip of a lost show from this 1970 series in which Cliff sings 'On The Beach' and does a great rock n roll medley. Its most likely in private hands. Anybody that can help me track it down gets a nice reward.
thank you for posting the video. a few minutes ago i checked a google alert for dramagods, followed a few links, became interested in UK rock & roll, learned a bit about Move It by Cliff Richard, wanted to hear the song, googled his name and the song title, and found this excellent clip which sublimely captures the music of the era. whatever did we do before the internet?
All of Cliff's records, including "Move It," were released in the US but none of them did anything. He had to wait until 1976 for his first US hit ("Devil Woman")
Only approximately 19 or 20 of his songs made the top 100 in the U.S. I have a book which list songs that made it to the Billboard 100 list for each artist. Cliff's songs that made the top 30 in the U.S. are Living Doll ('59), It's All in The Game ('63), Devil Woman ('76), We Don't Talk Anymore ('79), Dreaming ('80), Suddenly (w/Olivia Newton-John)('80), A Little in Love ('81) & Daddy's Home ('82).
My source for the Billboard chart listings for Cliff's songs is "Joel Whitburn's Top Pop Singles 1955-1990". There is a more recent version of the book called "Billboard's Top Pop Singles 1955-2002" by Joel Whitburn. Amazingly, "Move It" never reached the US Top 100 Billboard charts when the song was originally released in the late fifties. Cliff may not have released this early '70s version of "Move It".
Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some trading cards of 1960's chart topping stars: Cliff Richard, Elvis Presley, Adam Faith, Billy Furry, Frank Sinatra, Lonnie Donegan, and Shirley Bassey.
Adaptability & loyal fans in UK. Would never have made it in US. They Had The Original Elvis
Cliff would have been average performer in States. He probably thought better to stay in UK & last. His Films like Elvis Terrible. As Elvis Fan I think Cliffs first 4 recordings great RnR then nothing
You cannot knock success But if "Move It" had not been changed to "A" Side on First release. He may never have made it Whoever hears "Schoolboy Crush". Originally Cut "A" side, changed to "B"
Cliff recently said the American branch of his record company didn't try to market his songs in the U.S. well enough and that's he's not as popular in the United States as he is in the U.K. If I can find the news article again, I'll post the website for it.
Hi 1950sTeddyboy. I`ll admit CR is no Elvis, but there are very, very few artists who have sold as many records as Cliff. Elvis, certainly more. The only other US artist who may have sold as many is F. Sinatra. Even then, I have my doubts. Who cares where your records are sold - as long as they sell !
I agree, but do question the "half a billion" sales claim for Cliff, his UK sales don't even total 25% of that and the UK in clearly Cliff's biggest market, even though he did have hit's the world over, but more than a quarter of his success was certianly on home turf! However, he must have outsold many big names like Abba by now, as his longevity speaks volumes!
Bravo, you really play good Shadows'music. I have seen your channel. Yes, I was at the show. Hey how come you being such a young boy love Cliff's songs. I remember I was at your age when I first listen to Cliff's songs during the end of 1950's. Why not try and download Cliff's song title - Millenium Prayer- from YouTube. Try playing Shadows' - Wonderful Land or Peace Pipe. Anyway keep up the good work and don't give up trying new music.
The SHADOWS et Cliff : ils étaient et seront toujours au-dessus du lot...

Geeze, Elvis and Chuck are both incredible. Silly to argue that. I know Elvis did Chuck songs. I don't recall Chuck doing Elvis.
A tidbit, Chuck did his only number one My Ding A Ling in 1972. "Past his prime".
The rock and roll national anthem is "Johnny B Goode". Another song of Chucks, Elvis did. Chuck takes a back seat to nobody.

I agree the Stones aren't the be all and end all BUT they are prolific in what they do...regarding facts, PLEASE 'research properly' before you tell me the 'facts' of who did what first...even in the world of music, the white man robbed the coloured man, and for the record I am white. Thanks for your participation anyway..
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
Infact the book of rock lists states the claim rock n roll was stolen from the black man is the highest form of ignorance, rock n roll was actually a fusion of white music (country and western) and the black blues and gospel. gospel itself grew out of religious music that had been around for years, and was mainly white, so don't think I haven't done my reaserch, because i've gone back further than you.
FabFM 2 years ago
What is OBVIOUS is OBVIOUS...I don't need another opinion from any book...to form my own opinions..don't get too upset my friend!
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
I don't follow others opinions, If i did I'd listen to ignoramus' like you. When I was in high school is was totally unfashionable for me to like Elvis or Cliff, and many other great rock n rollers, yet I liked what I thought to be good music, which was rock n roll, and without Elvis we would have never had his good music, or cliff or the beatles!
FabFM 2 years ago
According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's website, "While no individual can be said to have invented rock and roll, Chuck Berry comes the closest of any single figure to being the one who put all the essential pieces together."
Babyhowdy233 2 years ago
Cub Koda wrote, "Of all the early breakthrough rock & roll artists, none is more important to the development of the music than Chuck Berry. He is it's greatest songwriter, the main shaper of it's instrumental voice, one of it's greatest guitarists, possessing the clearest diction, and one of it's greatest performers."
John Lennon was more succinct: "If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it 'Chuck Berry'."
Babyhowdy233 2 years ago
I don't care what Koda wrote. what I care about are the facts. Without Elvis Presley knocking down the doors, acts like Berry and Richard would still be rememberd as great, but not as great as they are now. If Chuck Berry was so great then home come the bottom fell out of his career in the 60s and apart from a shity novelty song called my ding a ling, he never had another major hit. Presley had major hits in both the 60s and 70s, heck, he had more hits in the 70s alone than Berry ever had!
FabFM 2 years ago
@Babyhowdy233 after watching john Lennon's live studio performance with Chuck Berry elsewhere here on youtube I watched to 2 most out of tune musicians I may have ever heard, Chuck plays his solos out of tune and Lennon takes his solo in the wrong key & Lennons band are a bunch of un-melodic hippies that sound like they'd never played rock&Roll before(shoot that bass player),after watching all that i lost my respect for anything Lennon said.
alvin01 9 months ago
According to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Website "Elvis Presley is the undisputed King of Rock and Roll".
Undisputed King. That means #1! They also go on to say
"He followed this mid-career renaissance with some of the most mature and satisfying work of his career".
No one would ever say that about Chuck Berry's post 1968 material, he was well past him prime at that time!
FabFM 2 years ago
& again Elvis Prelsey's first record on Sun was in 1955, before both Berry and Richard released their first records!
FabFM 2 years ago
Are you sure that Elvis was cutting records BEFORE Chuck Berry? I'm not too sure that's correct.
Babyhowdy233 2 years ago
On May 21, 1955
Chuck Berry recorded "Maybellene",
which featured Johnny Johnson on piano, Jerome Green (from Bo Diddley's band) on the maracas, Jasper Thomas on the drums and Willie Dixon on the bass. "Maybellene" sold over a million copies, reaching #1 on Billboard's Rhythm and Blues chart and #5 on the Hot 100.
Babyhowdy233 2 years ago
"That's All Right" is the name of the first single released by Elvis Presley, written and originally performed by blues singer Arthur Crudup as "That's All Right, Mama". Elvis' version was recorded in July 1954, and released on 19 July 1954 with "Blue Moon of Kentucky" as the B-side.
Not only does this prove Elvis was making records before Berry, it also proves the essential pieces of rock n roll were put together and developed before he was known.
FabFM 2 years ago
Yes Elvis was, Presley was making records before Chuck Berry, that is a fact!

Who is Solomon Burke ? I`ve never heard of him !

Poor YOU!
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
Actually, John Lennon sited Chuck Berry as his personal biggest influence.
Babyhowdy233 2 years ago
No he didn't, he said Berry was the greatest songwriter in rock n roll, but he credited Elvis was his main inspration. He became a musicain because of Elvis, not Berry. As did both Paul McCartney and George Harrison.
FabFM 2 years ago
and Presley progressed? To what?....
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
Presley shaped Rock N Roll to what it became today. He made it more than the flavour of the month, he turned in into the most dynamic and legendry format of all time.

dream on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
I don't need to dream, it's reality. More people go to Graceland each year than Jerry Lee Lewis could ever dream of performing to in a year, and more people see Elvis tribute shows than go and see Cliff Richard's tour, Presley's music is still the most listend to around the globe. His impact and influence will live on forever. It's you who's constantly in denial and dreaming, I have no problem with the reality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FabFM 2 years ago
It is all about being a follower then? Right now we have an idiot for president, look how many followers he has currently...many! .......it is NOT about following or being insipid..it is my friend about 'GOOD MUSIC' well performed and that is where elvis fell short compared to many others...
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
Complete nonsence. We live in a democracy, not a dictator ship which says a lot. Besides, polatics and music are hardly the same thing. Good music lasts forever, which is why Elvis is still as relevant in the 2000s as he was in the 1950s, politics moves on a day to day basis. You are not the final say on what is good music, Elvis' legacy will speak for itself, long after you and I are gone!
FabFM 2 years ago
I don't know where you live BUT if it is the USA then our democracy is fast fading my friend...in YOUR opinion Elvis is still relevant, in mine he is not...simple as that, don't get so excited.
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
No it's not my opinion he is still relevant, That is fact. The thousands upon thousands that still pay money to see the tribute shows, the many millions who still listen to the music, the millions more who all these years on who continue to discover it, and his influence on music. These are all facts, not based on any opinion, but fact. You may "think" he is not relevant ,when he very much is, which just shows your ignorance.

STRONG judgements!
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
If we didn't have strong judgements, we'd never get anywhere in life!
FabFM 2 years ago
We now have a president that has strong judgements that will sooner or later lead us into great trouble than we have ever known (opinion only.)
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
Guess whole else has made strong judgements? Donald Trump. Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett... they didn't get to where they are today without strong judgements, nor did the vast majority of successful people.
FabFM 2 years ago
I would assess those as 'choices' myself..to judge is quite different. Have a good weekend.
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
They didn't just assess them, they had to judge them to make a decision, assessment is the process you use to make a judgement.
FabFM 2 years ago
I think I do know what assessment is...but thanks anyway..
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
Well if you knew what it mean then the post prior from you was a tad pointless, but you are very welcome and I hope you have a good week!
FabFM 2 years ago
Now try reading before you speak, I mentioned the word 'choices' as opposed to 'judgements' go back and look you will see, by the way I am a litle tired of you trying to teach me all this pointless dribble...enjoy your week
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
If you're "getting tired" then feel free to take a rest and not bother me with your dross. You said "judgements" originally, and then said you would asses the choice, to which I responded after you assess them you still need to form a judgement, and you agreed!
FabFM 2 years ago
First off it was YOU that insited on bothering me, and then quickly proceeded to insulting, and if you think what I say is 'dross' then why are you so insistent on further bothering me? As for the mumbled last paragraph above, please try to read it again(very carefully) and see exactly what I said, OK I will take you up on your offer...I will not respond further to you wasting my time. It's been fun!
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
Anyone who has to post a "farewell" post about how they won't reply any more just shows how their argument holds no water and is one final attempt to have the final word and win a debate they have shown no real argument in. Anyone can see you said judgements first, the choices, then agreed with me about choices needing to be judged. BTW if you don't want to be botherd by those who will disagree with your dross then don't come to an online commuity that has millions of members!
FabFM 2 years ago
I see you want to keep it going then? So your suggestion was NOT genuine, OK..lets argue over opinions for the unforseeable future, I have NO problem with satisfying your OBVIOUS ego shortages..FIRST though please do NOT alter what I have said before, I will not go over the same point so that you can attempt to change its context...the basis of all this has been simply this..'we each have opinions and we disagree' WHY can't you live with that?
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
Anyone can read your previous posts and see what you said and agreed with, to that end I don't need to defend that anymore, as the whole world can see, making you look rather stupid, but that's not a suprise. BTW all I said was if you don't want to post replies anymore you don't have too, who's the one with the ego shortages? I'm not the one who keeps coming back posting about how I don't want to keep replying! .. carry on... i like laughing at your stupidness! It's almost entertaining!
FabFM 2 years ago
Well I doubt anyone would want to look at the dribble we have shared, in any case you can always read into a thing anything that you want as YOU know, as I said before you show your terrible weakness by your continued insults, but that is ok you are still young with a lot to learn about life(not ancient like me.) You have far too many denials in your comments...
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
You're the one getting personal, I just made remarks about your comments and I will not sink to your level as I don't want to waste my time trading personal insults with someone I thankfully don't know. It's hard to read things into the simple replies you gave, it's not poltical debate or some long winded post, it was two one line posts from you that are crystal clear.
FabFM 2 years ago
I have not insulted you to this point, just read back your remarks and you will see..anyway it has got incredibly boring.....nothing is fact, nothing is proven. nobody is a winner, nobody is a loser..what else?????
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
You tried to make this about age (technically, that is personal). Now, you have brought that to the fore I will comment on that. You think your older age makes you wiser than me, but like you said you are ancient, so surely that makes you senile not wiser? The original argument here anyway was about Elvis Presley being the king, a title he will be known by long after this back and forth is over.
FabFM 2 years ago
Wrong again...I did not try to make it about age I was simply stating the difference between us in that regard, as for wiser I also think it is not always the case, I do NOT claim to be wiser, as for senile NOT YET thankfully.., I agree that Presley may be known as the king(and for a long time), but like I said way back at the beginning it is just opinons...enjoy your day.
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
But it's not opinions, you even admit he is known as the king and he got that status because of his success and influence, based on historic fact. It is opnion whether or not his music is the best and I never contested that, but the fact he is known as the king is not an opinion (again even you just stated such).
FabFM 2 years ago
Yes I admit he is 'known' by some as the king, HOWEVER that does not make it a fact of any kind...those who refer to him as king have surely that opinion of him...that is all...enjoy your day.
ohisashiburi 2 years ago
It's not an opinion, it's based on historic fact and influence, that's why he is the king, not just regarded it by "some", but by music historians, many of whom do not regard him as their personal favorite, but know about the history of rock n roll, understand his vast influence and have reached that conclsuion based on fact, nothing to do with an opinion. I could claim in my opinion Jason Donovan is the all time king of music, but that argument wouldn't hold up much water with historic fact!
FabFM 2 years ago
Here we go again, there are NO FACTS......'music historians' also have opinions and biases just like ALL other humans..Let me remind you that once upon a time it was considered a FACT that the earth was 'flat'...

At the end of the day, it seems to me, we all have our opinions. The only way we can settle things is by using facts. I doubt it !

morgandrim 3 years ago
An Elvis fan, obviously.Elvis was called the King of rock´n´roll. But he was not a king in life. The way he lived and died was so misarable:( Singers, actors and so on are public figures and loved for many young people. They have the obligation to have a resctuful life. Yes, I am a Cliff fan and do have proud being a fan of an amazing man...a KING IN LIFE!
Nazabraga 3 years ago 2
I don`t know when people started to Call Evis `King` - but it was certainly well before 1977. Go out into the street and ask 100 people who is the King of Rock `n` Roll. Take particular notice of how many say Cliff Richard.
And ps. Don`t do the survey outside a Cliff Richard convention ( or Elvis convention )just to be fair.

Earlier in this conversation you said: He WAS quite good. What a pity you probably have never seen his performances in the 80's, 90's and the shows he gave this century!
Anybody that can help me track it down gets a nice reward.

thank you for posting the video. a few minutes ago i checked a google alert for dramagods, followed a few links, became interested in UK rock & roll, learned a bit about Move It by Cliff Richard, wanted to hear the song, googled his name and the song title, and found this excellent clip which sublimely captures the music of the era. whatever did we do before the internet?
norapinefrin 4 years ago
Take a look at Cliff & The Shadows's late '50s version of Move It (which is the original version).
It's on Youtube also.
wintergreen88 4 years ago
the 50s version rocks! love Cliff's pompadour - so totally the 50s. and the buddy holly lookalike playing guitar - nice.
norapinefrin 4 years ago
I like both versions of the song but the early '70s version
shows you how Cliff was able to update his style of performance.
That's what has made him popular over the years. Great song!
I don't know if it was ever released in the U.S.
wintergreen88 4 years ago
All of Cliff's records, including "Move It," were released in the US but none of them did anything. He had to wait until 1976 for his first US hit ("Devil Woman")
cinerama88 4 years ago 2
Only approximately 19 or 20 of his songs made the top 100 in the U.S. I have a book which list songs that made it to the Billboard 100 list for each artist. Cliff's songs that made the top 30 in the U.S. are Living Doll ('59), It's All in The Game ('63), Devil Woman ('76), We Don't Talk Anymore ('79), Dreaming ('80), Suddenly (w/Olivia Newton-John)('80), A Little in Love ('81) & Daddy's Home ('82).
wintergreen88 4 years ago
My source for the Billboard chart listings for Cliff's songs is "Joel Whitburn's Top Pop Singles 1955-1990". There is a more recent version of the book called "Billboard's Top Pop Singles 1955-2002" by Joel Whitburn. Amazingly, "Move It" never reached the US Top 100 Billboard charts when the song was originally released in the late fifties. Cliff may not have released this early '70s version of "Move It".

after a 2nd viewing of the 50s version, i'm pretty sure that rick nelson channelled cliff richard. yep

If I can find the news article again, I'll post the website for it.
wintergreen88 4 years ago
Hi 1950sTeddyboy. I`ll admit CR is no Elvis, but there are very, very few artists who have sold as many records as Cliff. Elvis, certainly more. The only other US artist who may have sold as many is F. Sinatra. Even then, I have my doubts. Who cares where your records are sold - as long as they sell !
morgandrim 3 years ago
I agree, but do question the "half a billion" sales claim for Cliff, his UK sales don't even total 25% of that and the UK in clearly Cliff's biggest market, even though he did have hit's the world over, but more than a quarter of his success was certianly on home turf! However, he must have outsold many big names like Abba by now, as his longevity speaks volumes!
