  • Up here we say Catalytic converter. It has a bunch of different slang words for it as well, but most people will know what you mean.

  • I thought it was called a catalaa converter (i don't think that is spelt right, but thats how its pronounced i thought). not a catalytic converter. unless its pronounced like catalaa converter (at least pronounced like the way i have it spelt so it sounds like cat-a-lay converter).

  • My version of replacing a Catalytic converter is cutting it off and replace it with a straight pipe instead :)

  • @dieselpower4ever I could have done that but this car must pass an e-test soon

  • @ShawnCFarm Dammit, its always those damn tests that ruin it >:(

  • great vid man!

  • @mopardodge00 Thanks Bro

  • nice work buddy :)

  • @500passwords You didn't see my weld then lol Thanks buddy

  • @ShawnCFarm

    i saw it :)

but how else you gonna get better ??

    thumbs up from 500

  • i hate exhaust work even worse without lift ... by the way nice Shepard you got there

  • @MK4TWISTEDDUB Thanks bro we love her too

  • Shawn, are you certain you're running the correct polarity on your welder? It seems like a dumb question, but MANY make the mistake. EN or Electrode Negative is what you'll want, unless specified differently on the spool of wire. This is done inside on the inner panel. Stick out, length of wire from tip to work piece should be around 3/8". Remember to "drag slag"... Don't push it like a GMAW welding.

  • @4gasem I think I switched it already but going to check again the next time in near it. It is alot easier to drag it

  • I remember the days I used to take the cats off, hollow them out, and put them back on, along with a glasspack muffler. The good ole days

  • @JamesReadythe5th I did that lots to. I wish I had all the guts from all them cats now

  • Very cool video Shawn I always enjoy your vids keep em comin. Thanks from A Loyal Vewer.

  • @flipper2828 I'll always try to put only the good stuff up if I can and thanks for your comment

  • Please read around my misspellings below! DOH!

  • @4gasem No problem bro

  • ok i am a welder my self i have done that 13 years now .and i never use fluxcord..like your videos

  • @blixtkrig It works but I don't care for it at all

  • Hello Shawn, thought I'd chime after watching your vid's to see what you had going. Appreciate the friend invite. Your vid's are really useful and help a great deal, not to mention funny. I died laughing at your seat belt/ airbag test video. I'd watch more but am concentrating on how to remove a broken off brass tubing end that is stuck inside the threads in a drain hole on the bottom of a 1950 truck gas tank I pulled. I tried a bolt remover but am afraid it will expand & ruin the tank threads.

  • @OleIrishReb That don't sound to good. I hope to make some more fun videos next up lol

  • Couldn't get away with strait pipe....

  • @mdk70454 Not up here in Canada they'd hang you

  • @ShawnCFarm Ouch. Bit Steep.

  • another good how to vid!

  • @mason8481 Thanks my friend

  • @mason8481 Thanks Bro

  • @Keister12 Her name is Karlee and shes about 80lbs lol

  • Great vid as always Shawn.I love your dog, what's his name? All the best, Marty

  • @martian953 The he is a she. Her name is Karlee

  • i like to think of myself as somewhat mechanically inclined

but i usually learn something new from your videos thanks for sharing them

    always something worth watching

  • @ibmoosed Thanks my friend and you never know when you might need to use it.

  • why dont u use standard weldcord?

  • @blixtkrig You have to run gas like 75/25 Argon C02 and that can be an issue outside in the wind. Flux core is perfect for his environment.

  • @blixtkrig Depends on where you are welding and the cost. Its the cost mostly right now.

  • Hey Shawn, a green shade ten lens is literally 2 bucks! I think I've told you this in the past. Yes, flux core can be hard, but if you buy quality flux core it'll make your job easier. Also, remember, the flux doesn't like moisture, so you should remove and put it in the house when not using it. Plus, the galvanized or aluminized pipe doesn't help matters. Flux core also demands a long stick out unlike GMAW.

  • @4gasem This is ture, I should buy a lens this week so at least I can put the camers behind it. I didn't even think about the moisture getting at it and it makes sense.

  • @ShawnCFarm Most don't understand that core wire starts lie as a flat piece of metal. Flux is poured onto it and then the metal is drawn around it, making it round. This is also why knurled drive rolls are suggested to push it. It's soft in the middle, so it's had to put any pressure on it, without making it take the shape of the drive rolls (in most cases V shaped), so we run knurled or U groove rolls. Most core wires will tell you what the stick out should be. Remember to drag it!

  • I didn't know you lived in Canada. And all this time I thought you were here in the states.

  • @THEsquirrel3d Yup lol

  • Thanks shawn, love your vid's. I have a 2002 vw beetle. My daughter is driving it. Had 90k on it, timing belt has not been change. No room to work on it. Want to see your vid for pointer and tips.

    Thanks again

  • @thunderdfl It should be up this week I hope if my pc stops messing up lol

  • can wait to see the timing belt vid

  • @thunderdfl Going to try and up it tomarrow night. It will be the 5th or 6 time now lol

  • @lHustonProductionsl Ya but the car has to pass an e-test lol

  • Fine job Buddy!! That really sucks workin' on your back like that, but ya gotta do whatcha gotta do eh!!☺

  • @805ROADKING I just block the pain out of my mind untill the job is done lol. I'm feeling it today

  • Damn..I never knew cat's had platinum in them and were worth so much. I hollowed my pre-cat out years ago and threw everything that came out in the garbage :S

  • @sc0tte1 Some are worth alot of money.

  • @ShawnCFarm any cat off a 86-99 ford taurus is worth the most,up to 1000 bucks. they have an ounce of platinum in them...the SHO cats arent worth that much though, only a couple hundred

...same goes for the 2.5 4 banger gen 1 taurus. if its got a 3.0 or 3.8,youre golden

  • You're a crazy man, Mr. Shawn. :P Working on an cat converter without a hoist. I couldn't imagine..

Also, question, does the fear of getting under vehicles disappear after so many cars?

  • @XXXBootstrap Yes it can and thats when people do dums things they would not most times. I had a car fall on me years ago and pinned me under its rear axle.

  • You need a lift! lol

  • @edzgarage And a place to put it in lol

  • puppy grew up, not to loud bark for burgular.

  • @backwoods3214 I wouldn't want to be the one that trys to break the door down at night lol

  • get a bottle and a regulator for that welder.......flux core sucks!

  • @lincolnmaniac Its set up for gas I just have to buy a bottle

  • @ShawnCFarm Once you go on the bottle you'll never want to go back. Buy the biggest bottle you can't afford. I bought a little one and it goes fast!

  • @edzgarage I use gad only at work and it welds alot better then flux core

  • Are VW Bugs AWD

  • @redneckbryon Not this one

  • Do you return the old cat for a core refund?

  • @spelunkerd Most times you can get 50 or 60 bucks for the old one. In this case there was not much left of it so its not worth very much, maybe ten bucks if that

  • did it make that sizzling noise as it went into your ear,,

  • @mustie1 Oh ya big time. It drove me nuts for awhile. I could still feel it a few hours lator

  • Another good vid Shawn love your GMC pickup sweet ride also like liked the way your dog came over to supervise the job ha ha cheers brother thanks for sharing regards from Shane over in the land down under

  • @wazclan1964 Thanks my friend

  • Flux is all I have for a welder too. It dont pay for me to get a mig because I dont use it all that much

  • @travisjeanelle Its nice to have and if your only getting a flex core welder its alot cheaper then one that will do gas

  • @ShawnCFarm Yeah I only paid $90 for mine new lol

  • Its a 2008

  • Yuk...nothing worse than that kind of work laying on your back...good video though!

  • @klc317 I'm feeling it today lol

  • @247Countryboy1 Hahahah

  • Nice redneck fix......

  • @josderedneck22 That car still needs alot of work

  • @ShawnCFarm ok...

  • It's nice to see you do other DIY videos with cars other than just Ford, Chevy, Chrysler, Toyota.

  • @talfacprez Thanks I take them as they come

  • nice dog

  • @tedhaze1 Thanks, and shes very protective of the kids

  • You are a farmer, Just flip the car on its side, No hoist needed lol

  • @CDNBadass I could have picked it up with the front end loader and stood it up on its nose lol

  • And that folks is why I drive a old enough car with cats screw em mines a 76 and doesn't have them . OH and its cleaner than that car or a P.O.S. Prius because I run moonshine .

  • @dunn98632 Now your talking, free fuels, and if the car breaks down you can drink whats in the gas tank

  • cool

  • @hp11208 Thanks

  • what kind of trouble did you have with the magnaflow cats?

  • @GarageCrazy Some where not passing the e-test. We'd install a new one and go for a drive to burn it in, then test the car again and we'd get worse numbers. Not everyone but a few to many

  • @ShawnCFarm Oh okay I was thinking you were gonna say the cat got clogged or something. I don't mind about the e-test or anything. Well thanks for not scaring the shit out of me haha. I just bought a new magnaflow high flow cat like right before i watched your video.

  • @GarageCrazy I had a magnaflow high-flow cat in my last car..I wouldn't have passed if the tester didn't cheat, it was about 3 years old.. I don't think high-flow cats do as good as a job as normal ones though unless you heat them up like a mother ***

  • @GarageCrazy It seems the cheaper ones are not very good.

  • @ShawnCFarm I spent 95 bucks on mine, I hope that's not very cheap for a cat.

  • Time to make a garage pit in the yard.

  • @jasonmushersee Or a good set of ramps

  • your getting a nice bit of work at home to do!

  • @foxdmulder Untill the snbow comes.

  • Shawn either turn up the amps or turn down the wire feed my nephew bought the same kind of mig I got to use it for a few months without gas I was doing fenders it worked fine nice smooth lines --looked like you had to much wire feed maybe .

  • @MrMrtiki I think you might be right as I was blowing hole through it all over the place

  • @ShawnCFarm Overhead welds maybe try a U shape weld from the bottom to top 1/8 burn both sides in a U shape but overlap -- should get a slag rise in the middle that chips off over the joint arc should sizzle not snap , thats how I taught the kids in school !

  • My new Dodge did not come with a cat

  • @stephenhall19 Really what year is it?

  • HD don't matter that much to me...... i watch one time and may never see it again some sites they beg to hav it in HDbut why? its harder for me to download as well

  • @wasjunk11 I like thing to be as clear as I can get them lol

  • i got a big piece of slag in my shoe once... that hurt like something else! i couldn't imagine getting it in your ear!

  • @JustinsDIY ...you get to listen to your earwax boil :P

  • @jacktheripped And the smell lol

  • @JustinsDIY Its just like getting a bug in your ear that you can't get out

  • It's a pain working on exhaust systems.

  • @MrLeonard55 Its not to bad at the shop, but here on my back I'll think twice before I do it again

  • yey shawn dude ust uppload 480p easyer for u and us so it dosent take to much time to uppload.
