Is Synovitis something that becomes a routine I would hate to go to the doctor every single time I get it. I got mine taken out Friday and it came back sat the next day.
@scoobinater did the doc take out the fluid the first time he saw you for the swollen knee or did u have to make an appointment and come back. Sorry for the questions, I have an appt with orthopedic doc and i want him to aspirate this crap tom itself and let me walk again =(
@lvaliav86 The first 10 or 12 times I had this done at the emergency room in the hospital because I did not have a family doctor or a rheumatologist. I got so fed up with the long wait times, I actually drained my own knee at home a couple of times using a blood transfusion kit I stole from the emergency room. I'm in Canada, yes health care is free, but you get what you pay for :)
@lvaliav86 Then, finally after several months I got a referral to a rheumatologist and she drained my knee on my first visit (the very video you watched). She gave me a shot of cortizone and that took care of the swelling in that knee for a few months. She also put me on Methotrexate along with Naproxyn and things have been at least 80% better for more than 2 years now.
I just have the same problem, no injury whatsoever but I have yelow fluid extracted by a doctor.. I am very worry, It is something dangerous, will I walk normaly ever again, will my knee swollen again? Please let me know, I have just extracted fluid from my knee today (08/12/2010) I have pain from the needle but I feel better then before but still can not bend my leg and can not walk properly.. Please let me know. Thanks!
Went today to have this done. I was a little nervous but to my surprise it wasn't that bad. It was over in about 1 minute. You only feel it a little when it is first put in and then it is over.
Just had this done today for the second time due to psoriatic arthritis. Nowhere near as sore second time around. It was a different doctor this time and he injected in the other side of the knee. First one I had felt like it was stuck straight in a nerve, doctor said it was in my notes that the last time they had trouble with me squirming lol. Hoping it helps clearing my psoriasis too but not holding out!!!! Good Day : )
hey i have inflammatory arthritis in my right wrist would it be fine to get some of the fluid drained out and dont even bother with cortisone shots they only make things worse in the long run :P
I must be lucky because I just had fluid drained from knee, one yr. post arthroscopic surgery and it did not hurt. Fluid was yellow, not too much and cortisone injected. Numbing with spray a little uncomfortable but really not painful.
I used to have arthritis pain all throughout my body, had pain for years and years, not until a friend of mine told me about an all natural, little known protein, did my pain go away.
Yo people please help me! My dad has like this huge ball in the back of his knee. He got it checked out and they say he has a anuerysm in his knee. Like seriously is this life threatning. I need to know.
that shit hurt..got it done 3 times at once without them numing the area...went through hell & back..4 docs had to hold me down =( ..but it was worth it pain free,im back in the field!
I had this done 2 hours ago. It did not hurt much at all... the area was numbed with a cold spray fluid. Now my leg from mid-thigh to just below the knee is stiff (it wasn't bothering me as much prior to the treatment) and I have it elevated with an ice pack. I think it will be much better by tomorrow.
I have yet to make the appt. but i need to have this procedure done as told by my doctor ASAP. 1 child & yet still Iam slowly getting over needle phobia. I dont think this big a** needle with help with that process. Did they numb you???
yes, they usually freeze it first using a tiny needle but there's not much point... the pain of the swelling is usually worse than the pain of the needle they use for draining, and the freezing needle is so small anyway.
Overall, it's not as bad as it looks. I've had it done many times now and it's become routine. By the time it's over, your knee will begin to feel better because the pressure of the swelling will have been relieved.
I had this done for my RA on Thursday, the draining felt good, and the pain in my knee was a lot better, it took a few days....I didnt look, and you feel pressure when they insert the steriod, they did numb the area before..A little sore for a few day..but worth it!
i had this done a 4:36 this morning and have never been through hell like goin through that! i do have to say the doctors at the childrens hospital were quite nice though
There was no injury. I've had this problem with both knees, yet I've never had any knee injuries in my life.
Other types of arthritis often appear in joints following an injury. However "rheumatoid" arthritis is a disorder of the immune system and can attack any joint for no particular reason.
Well, the pain from the swelling disappears almost right away, but then there is the pain brought on by the big needle insert behind your knee cap. Honestly though, it does feel better when it's done. It's not pleasant getting the needle, and in a strange way, the feeling of relief comes even before the needle is removed (as the pressure from all the fluid is relieved). By the following day, the pain is at least 80% better.
With the pressure relieved, yes it feels better. This time the doctor was just removing enough fluid to send for testing, followed by a shot of cortisone.
2 weeks earlier, it was far more swollen, and they drained a whole lot more fluid (a pint or more) to relieve the pressure.
