i like my m1530, still going strong after 3 1/2 years, only thing wrong with it is the left click button on the mouse pad is loose and doesn't work too well but i use a bluetooth mouse so it doesnt bother me much, oh and the battery is shot and has to be plugged in at all times, but thats expected with any laptop after 3 1/2 years, the computer itself is still working fast and still does a great job surfing the internet and playing a few games, well worth the money :)
@lukefairs Mine is still going strong, the CD drive has failed but I didnt really use it and just removed it. You can buy a battery from AGPtek on amazon. It was about $40 and it works just as well as the original.
This Laptop is a total piece of sh1t! I bought this 3 years ago and since buying it it has overheated constantly, I have had 3 motherboards , 3 batteries, 2 power adaptors, and so many software issues it's untrue! Dell refuse to replace the unit. It went out of warranty so I bought another 2 years warranty for £90. I now have to call engineers again as after they replaced the 3rd motherboard the optical drive ceased working!

haha i got dell inspiron 1525... it had all the 50% of this xps.. but what i did was go to my home country and put it on a tune up shop.. they made it ultimate vista.. updated ram to 4gb, 512mb graphics , dunno about resoulitons and stuffs.. but 75% of games i can play ^^
Dell XPS M1530 is very good juz be4 Studio 15 is released. M1530 spec is quite old and 8600GT is also showing its age when compare to Studio 15(HD4570). But anyway it is a good laptop.
i dont plays games so the gt8600 is more than enough for me. but i do recomend it over the studio 1535. much better build quality and at least the media button work .
my spec is 2.6 gig 6mb cache 4 gigs ram 256 gb SSD hard drive, extended 9 cell battery and 1680x 1050. i was going to get the new xps 1640 but its a finger print magnet, also the screen seems to be inline with the vents causing warm air to blow on the corner bottom of the screen. bad build i think.
you cant upgrade the graphics card, as its built on the motherboard. but it is dedicated ram of 256mb none of the dell laptops can be upgraded ie studio 15 or 17 and also the new xps 13 and 16. as all use built on graphics on the mobo.
i have the same one but they didn't give me a leatherbound case! cd's and manuals were just lose in a box. case seems handy! my bro and mom also ordered dells but i don't think any of them got cases, either. depends on the country, i guess. now i feel ripped off, tho! lol
I really dont know why everyone considers dell to be well known for its customer care. I made the mistake of ordering for a comp from the company and it was the worst misake of my life. The comp(XPSm1530) did not work from the day it arrived and the took such a long time to replace it that the model itself was now not available and now those cheeky buggers have sent me a quotation asking me to pay extra for a very similar machine.
2.4ghz intel core2duo 1440x900 hiRes LED LCD screen+2mp cam 4gb ram 500gb Hard Disk Drive slot load DVD+/-RW 256MB nvidia GeForce 8600M GT wireless N card (better than 802.11b,g) bluetooth -this would be an ample configuration. if you'r a gamer then the specs in my previous comment would best suit you (if u willing to pay) -this configuration costs about $1200 with instant savings and without tax and shipping. (though they say shipping is free, they add about $60) -i would buy this one...

try using the computer off of battery, run the battery down and recharge it, if you can do that again then it is charging. you could reset the computer to factory settings.
So how much did you have to pay for your Dell xps m1530 in total? I got mine for $1380 at 2.4GHz T8300, 256MB Nvidia 8600GT, Vista home premium, with 4GB of ram, 500GB HDD, free delivery. Is that price okay for current Dell XPS M1530s? :)

it's actually a great laptop. There is only 1 thing about the xps m1530, and that is that the motherboard only support a max memory ram speed of 667Mhz which sucks because they advertise memory that runs at 800Mhz when you'll get up to that speed with the m1530 motherboard. That's what happened to me. I order the same system just like you did but when I fould out about the motherboard speed limitation I got so disappointed that I returned the laptop back to dell.
you can check your memory speed by accessing the bios. When you power on your pc, pres F2 when you see the start up screen (screen with the Dell logo) then look for memory and highlight it. it should tell you your current memory speed.
it's not offered through dell is what i meant. and you're just plain dumb since vista can only utilize around 3.25-3.5gb of ram unless you have vista x64 (which you mostly likely don't). and even if you have vista x64 you are never going to come close to needing that much ram with this laptop.
i do have vista 64 and i just got in the mail three weeks ago from dell go to there sight and you will see that i got 8 gb of ram. i paif 400.00 more to have it. i figure to spend more money and then ibwont have to buy another notebook for a few years. so before you call someone dumb do your research first. i paid for all the upgrades. and paid alot of money ...
nope i sell and do promotions for dell. i know for a fact that the 1530 has no upgrade option for 8gb of ram. in fact i dont know if they even made a 4gb pc-6300 sodimm stick of ram to begin with. do some research before making stuff up.
correction. there is a 4gb single sodimm stick of ram although it's not offered through dell. either is vista x64 on the 1530. so what you're saying is that you got a 1530 ordered through dell's website, with an operating system that isn't offered or supported through them, and a ram upgrade that doesn't exist on their website. interesting

the quality has gone up. I dont like their is a gap in between the keyboard and the metal finish and how the black front holds finger prints. The laptop is great and I suggest buying a dell.
the chance is so low you wont have a problem. static electricity is thousands of volts and you dont have a problem because it is low amps. the shock from the computer is very low amps. Their is a chance your car will explode and kill you while you drive it but you still drive.
They have to put that on there for the sake of facing a civil tort and being sued by people.
Just like on Silly puddy, it says you have to wear gloves, apron, protective goggles, etc, etc... can you imagine a 3 year old wearing all of that stuff? no one actually listens to those rules, and the company knows that, that's why they do it... then they can't get sued... It is a nice laptop though.

There is only 1 thing about the xps m1530, and that is that the motherboard only support a max memory ram speed of 667Mhz which sucks because they advertise memory that runs at 800Mhz when you'll get up to that speed with the m1530 motherboard. That's what happened to me. I order the same system just like you did but when I fould out about the motherboard speed limitation I got so disappointed that I returned the laptop back to dell.

you can check your memory speed by accessing the bios. When you power on your pc, pres F2 when you see the start up screen (screen with the Dell logo) then look for memory and highlight it. it should tell you your current memory speed.

it's not offered through dell is what i meant. and you're just plain dumb since vista can only utilize around 3.25-3.5gb of ram unless you have vista x64 (which you mostly likely don't). and even if you have vista x64 you are never going to come close to needing that much ram with this laptop.

i do have vista 64 and i just got in the mail three weeks ago from dell go to there sight and you will see that i got 8 gb of ram. i paif 400.00 more to have it. i figure to spend more money and then ibwont have to buy another notebook for a few years. so before you call someone dumb do your research first. i paid for all the upgrades. and paid alot of money ...

nope i sell and do promotions for dell. i know for a fact that the 1530 has no upgrade option for 8gb of ram. in fact i dont know if they even made a 4gb pc-6300 sodimm stick of ram to begin with. do some research before making stuff up.

correction. there is a 4gb single sodimm stick of ram although it's not offered through dell. either is vista x64 on the 1530. so what you're saying is that you got a 1530 ordered through dell's website, with an operating system that isn't offered or supported through them, and a ram upgrade that doesn't exist on their website. interesting

By the way, how long was the delivery for your Dell XPS? I'm thinking of getting one in Singapore. However, I'm only there for 8 days, so I wonder if it's a good option to buy from Dell Singapore when you have to wait for the delivery...

Thanks for the great review. I'm switching from self built desktops to a laptop and the Dell XPS 1530 has caught my eye. Been looking for a decent review all over the place so I have but this is the only one thats shown what I want, A++
For those who are ordering from dell with 4GB of RAM, be sure to select the option for 64bit Windows to take advantage of the extra memory. WOW 32 compatibility is very decent.
Also, for those in the UK, there's no extra cost to get the better battery-9cell

just bought this on ebay, dell refurb (looks brand new) w/the 1920-1200 screen for 1000. (!) always pays to wait but its also fun to have stuff when it first comes out

the quality has gone up. I dont like their is a gap in between the keyboard and the metal finish and how the black front holds finger prints. The laptop is great and I suggest buying a dell.

the chance is so low you wont have a problem. static electricity is thousands of volts and you dont have a problem because it is low amps. the shock from the computer is very low amps. Their is a chance your car will explode and kill you while you drive it but you still drive.

They have to put that on there for the sake of facing a civil tort and being sued by people.
Just like on Silly puddy, it says you have to wear gloves, apron, protective goggles, etc, etc... can you imagine a 3 year old wearing all of that stuff? no one actually listens to those rules, and the company knows that, that's why they do it... then they can't get sued... It is a nice laptop though.
