I think a lot of Sawyer's comments are not of her own opinion; she herself is a Roman Catholic. I think a lot of her comments are what a lot of those who are not familiar with monastics think and they are included to bring out the majesty and the beauty of monasticism to those unfamiliar with it.
The reporter only focuses on the things the nuns "give up", as though those are the only things that give life meaning. She ignores how happy the nuns are. Perhaps life is more than clothes, TV, going out and sex. In my experience many people in the world are miserable and monastics show forth a true and simple joy. No wonder monks and nuns live so long. Finally, people don't join monasteries to run from reality. In fact life in a monastery is so real that few people can take it. God bless them
The problem with this video is it focuses only on the things given up and not the things gained. Its as though the reporter thinks that the only thing that gives life meaning is TV, radio, sex and talking. Is there nothing else?
god is so nice and i am going to be a monk from watching this vido help me teach me and with pray i am going to surve him i love him iam 22 young but no what i wont in life u such for god and you surve him colster is good keeps you in line and the world has so much sin so we pray for the world
Living a life without giving into temptations, and without all the sin in the world (sex, porn, drugs, etc) will make you feel as close to God as you possibly can. I love how the one Sister said that when you fall in love with our Lord he takes up your whole heart and you can't think of being with anyone else. I feel that way as well. If I think of myself with another man I feel so weird, like it wouldn't be right. Kind of like I would be cheating on Jesus! I love Him more than anything.
to JesusForeverLoved: wow, thats pretty sick that you have "sex" grouped in with porn and drugs....Like sex is abnormal. Sex is how we get more people in the world in case you did not know that. That is typical Catholic perversion: "sex is evil". Well guess what....if you think that you are a total pervert.
If one cannot love God, one cannot understand. So that's the lack of the reporter. Beside that, this little video is a blessing. Thanks a lot for posting.
Pray for the nuns! They need our prayers as much as we need theirs.
I thought Sawyer was kind of snotty and disrespectful to the sisters. I honor their choice to follow an inner calling. It may not be for everyone, but it is ignorant to judge the ones who are chosen for this life. I really respect Mother Mary Francis for letting this documentary be made at her monastery.
I so totally understand these girls, why is everybody so sarcastic about it? But I think some don't feel the warm feeling inside when thinking of Jesus...
Totally agree with JCPUTT. Life was meant to be enjoyed, and the worship of God to be in conjunction with all the other things that they are depriving themselves with. If you want to know more about the cloister nuns, google it and read A Nuns Testimony- a real eye opener!!!
There are different ways to know, love, and serve God. Because God is infinite, he can be worshiped in unison with the appreciation of other things AND apart from them. These blessed women have chosen to follow our Lord by travelling the road less travelled, partly in order to aid your soul, my soul, and all of our souls :)
I was kind of surprised at the reporter. She just could not get over the fact these women are celibate. As if it would kill them. Yet statistics show nuns have have the longest lifespan in the world. Sex is overrated. This was a great video.
I feel deeply embarrassed for this poor reporter: being given trust to enter that space among the religious, yet having no concern other than prurience. These women build a communal bridge between divinity and the collective human, and all she can wonder is why someone would give up sex? In a world where we are asked to bask in soul-murdering immorality, they stand in sign of something deeper and greater. I'm relieved they are in the world... and I'm not even Christian! Heaven bless them.
I am so very excited to see this video. I am nineteen years old and ready to enter into religious life. Thank you so much for sharing this for us! God bless!
Do you hear their laughter, their smiles, their peaceful body language? Both ways of loving God and praying work and are valid. God made us all different. We can know, love and serve God in this way also. May God bless you.
I envy the young sister near the end who opted to enter the cloister. She found her Peace. Not enough of us do.

Just read "A Nun's Testimony" and that is a very cleverly constructed account of fiction. It reads likes a Sidney Sheldon novel.

Dear daeisyin, Maybe God has planted a seed in your heart. Why don't you try the life for a week or two? Then God will let you know.

The most brutal criminal enjoys life
in confinement more than these poor souls
led astray by a religion. One can love and
adore his creator and still live amongst God's
creations. One need not hide from enjoying
our universe to pray for lost souls.

Sawyer has a fixation on celibacy, here: "celibacy in 2007?" I bet she she'd never question in in the Dali Llama.
