@beatlesecw I agree. I came here because I read the "Sad Clown" article on Tvtropes and I wanted to listen to it so I could explore my newfound facination with Pagliacci and other sad clowns.
WTF is coming home? I've been listening to this Motown Magic for 30 yrs. now. Let your wound bleed, we're watching you closely so the worms won't feed, " til you're strong enough to walk & breathe."
This version is the best of all the versions played. There is the hurried version that's more commonly played. The slowness of the song makes it very nice.
Stevie Wonder, in tandem with Hank Cosby, wrote the music & gave it to Smokey as a Christmas present. Smokey added his lyrical take to it. Oddly enough, he didn't care for it that much. And until Motown UK put it out as a 45, was it considered for similar single release in The States.
My ALL-TIME UBER-MEGA-ULTRA RAVE-FAVE from Smokey, Warren (Pete), Bob, & The Much Regretted Ronald.
@BadNews88 ..and Marv and Claudette. (there are actually six Miracles ) In fact , the caption here should say "THE MIRACLES- THE TEARS OF A CLOWN" - Smokey didn't record this song by himself.
@williamg2552 - Actually should say "SMOKEY ROBINSON & THE MIRACLES - THE TEARS OF A CLOWN" - from 1965 on LP's and 1967 on 45's Smokey's name was added to the group name. Plus this being the 1970 configuration with added overdubs to the original '67 recording. (The bass on this one, from Bob Babbitt, was miles above the original bassline - apparently from Antonio 'Tony' Newton - which sounded like a pedestrian dress rehearsal in comparison.)

Why does Diddy feel like they're talking to him in this song? I expected the song to be depressing or something but it's not?
mrs6pack 11 months ago
It's this mix (as issued on Tamla single #T 54199 in 1970) that I've long preferred.
