Dude I just got this set last week. Not bad for being electric.... but I think you have your cymbals setup wrong... Aren't they supposed to sit on top of the little felt pads..... I'm not 100% on that as I am a noob as well, but thats how I think they go.

Drums are fun. I used to own an electric Yamaha set a few years before I picked up the guitar.
Just keep practising and you'll be just as good on drums as you are at guitar.
