This particular Vort just happens to be in a secluded area without other characters standing around to speak their own dialogue and muddle up the words of the Vort. there are some things that help you understand the gman in h1 were you see the gman talking to the scientist go in noclip and slowly go inside the gmans briefcase you will see his id card some papers and strangely enough a gun holster with a gun strange....

That was simply an easter egg for people poking around with the Half-Life development tools. Since you never /really/ see it in game, it's not necessarily related to the story.

Back when I was was playing both HL1 and 2.

I never understood the story properly and I do know some bits now.

one example:

At the start of "Red letter day",

when Barney explains about having nightmares of a cat,

I think he was referring to the G-man, because the word

"cat" is an expression for a bereucrat or business man... I think.

As for the G-man, I dunno if Gordon was actually either under his control or under his own free will but unaware his actions were planned by the G-man.

I think Gordon is under his free will, but Gman puts him in situations where he'll choose what Gman wants, and rips him out before Gordan can reach a situation where there is an unwanted choice. Remember: "Instead of offering the illusion of free choice, I will take the liberty of, choooosing for youuu."

And I'd say its possible for Barney to know about Gman, cuz in Blue Shift, he was also "under watch" of Gman, but managed to escape before Gman could capture him. We'll have to wait and see.
