Can anyone tell me the name of the piece of music playing at the 1:00 mark and unfortunately gets cut off in the editing on this video! It was the best piece of music in the film and it is not on the soundtrack. I am in love with it....
This was a wonderful and moving movie. Ben Whishaw is superberb and just riveting. One of my new favorite actors. The best to come along in a very long time. I love Jane Campion...she knows how to touch a woman's heart. Definitely worth seeing, and then seeing again.
I love how in the scene where she tells him she's been wondering if he's been sleeping in her bed he looks at the cat like she was talking to it and not him.
I have a question. In scene when she saw him off , why didn't she turn back? She just left! Maybe it was hard for her or smth? Please tell me what you think)
if you're thinking about the scene that i'm thinking of (i wont say more since it might spoil things in case you haven't seen the full thing) i think it was because the scene before he says "lets say goodbye now" and then in the morning says "don't say anything". I think she just left so he wouldn't see her reaction or she wouldn't be tempted to say something and ruin their perfect good-bye from the night before...that's just what i think.
Thank you for your respond. I'd watched the movie so you would have spoiled anything) I think you're probably right. It was incomprehensible for me because I knew I couldn't do this if I were in her position. To let him go, God I can't even image how it hurts!
I believe it was a part of their agreement. Which included no words and pretending he was going to return in the spring. Or maybe a determination not to accept his approaching death.
I too adored this movie and will buy it when it comes out. He is a brilliant actor and absolutely gorgeous. I just feel they could have built him up a little for the role as he is so waif like. I just felt him very fragile even before he got sick. I understand his cricumstances of poverty, but he looks like he is hanging on for dear life throughout his "healthier years."
I adore this movie. I watch these excerpts all the time. My favorite part is 0:15 when he sweeps back his hair or 1:00 when he puts his hands in his pockets.
"I wish I could invent a method to forget" Keats and his poetry but since "there is holiness to heart affections" and "truth is beauty and beauty truth", therefore, no matter how hard I try to forget you, "you will always be young" with your "heard melodies sweet and unheard sweater". I am not gay but I love and respect you and your "imortal" work.
Those are the best 1:26 minutes of the film. My favorite! You've got both humore and romance. I liked half the movie, and other half I wondered why they didnt stick with the truth, that even would have made in more interresting. Also, their love was dissapointingly based off of sensuality instead of an actual relationship. Other than that, it was a beautifully done film.
i mean, it WAS 19th century england. and since when did only sex constitute an "actual relationship"? they were devoted to each other and were monogamous. that is all that is needed.
What a stupid statement! Their relationship was based off sensuality instead of an actual relationship? What does that mean? This film was as close to the truth as it could possibly be!

people were walking out of the movie as I watched, I tried to hang in to the end but I couldn't do it. The whole system is corrupt, people give great reviews for money and/or favors so it makes no difference to me who reviewed it favorably. The proof is in the pudding and the pudding was most unpleasant unfortunately. I really wanted to like this movie, I grew up a mile from Hampstead and I love period movies but this was horrible, it's the first time in my life I have walked out of a theater.
that is such bullshit, considering how many movies get torn apart (transformers 2 anyone?) besides, why the hell would quentin tarantino give a good review other than the heck of it? jane campion got a personal letter from him. don't blame your poor attention span on the movie. a movie's quality doesn't depend on shallow emotional payoff every ten minutes. and its a pity you didnt stay for the end, because everyone in my theater stayed until past the end credits. incredible ending.
You have now assumed that I am boring, that I have a poor attention span, that I need a shallow emotional payoff every 10 minutes just because I didn't like this movie, you have no idea who I am or what I'm about. Just get over it, I have the right to my opinion and no matter what names you call me, the movie was still terrible in my opinion. There are many, many movies similar to this one that I loved which is why I went to see this. I think you just need to calm down and get a grip dood.
Who cares how many people walked out? It's true there are some people who are not going to like a film like this and others who will. So far the film has gotten a lot of good reviews anyway. I don't care if you're from bloody Hampstead or L.A. What difference does that make? You can be from Anywhere and like or dislike this film.
OMG, you are so ignorant, you obviously didn't have the attention span to read my comments properly, instead you try to insult me. whatever...my only point was that I wanted to like the movie/expected to like it, didn't like it, get over it!

I think they wanted to make this with vampire appeal to bring in the young goofy crowd. Instead they've changed history and ruined the only adaptation of Keats EVER to come to the screen. He'd beat the batsnot out of this Ben guy.
How stupid. History was not changed and this was not financed by Americans nor was it geared toward the goofy crowd. You're the only goofy one here making comments.

okay. I'll try this again. Lifelong Keats enthusiast. Where is the stocky Keats with the unruly CURLY hair? We KNOW what he looked like. Could they have tried? This ugly, skinny, Sid Vicious looking punk looks like Fanny could snap his neck with her finger. She was, in actuality, the delicate looking one. He was a poet who's philosophy and interactions with Byron and Shelley and Severn were much more important than this young, probably fleeting love interest. Hollywood spin again.
i think they were less worried about *exactly* what he looked like than capturing his spirit. and Jane Campion is hardly a "hollywood" director. and i don't see how this has any "vampire appeal" whatsoever.
read john keats' biography. and more importantly the poem 'bright star' its not so much a movie as it is a tribute to the brilliant ingenious man that was john keats
ha ha ha! "killed in brutal slang words in philippines?????" he he he... killed is not a filipino word.... kinatay means slaughtered = killed na rin in a way... sige na nga
