hey i have a Digital tutors 2009... But 3ds max 2011 user interface is new! Is there a way to tweak everything to make it look like 2009? When you press M in 3ds max 2011 it does look like in 3ds max 2009

The 350 price is from auto desk. If you search around you can find it for less. you Can find a reseller and get a legal student version like I did. I paid under $100 from a reseller off of ebay.

The student versions can be bought for very little money. They are limited to some degree but the 2011 student version that I have works great for my intended purpose of modeling and rendering.

I am still in the baby steps of Learning ALL the ins and outs of this programs features that I have yet to stumble onto. Videos like this are very helpful in finding

@MarcowaR As a matter of fact, you can get the student version for free through the Autodesk website, completely legally. You have to sign up for the education community, but you can download 30 different programs with 3-year licenses after you do.

aahhhrg.. the viewport caddies. A novel idea but I might end up putting my fist through my monitor at some point because of these things. So now every time I use Max I have to enter a two part script .

@doublesob Well, not only does this new version have loads of new features, but so did 2010. If I were you, I'd look up the version changes, because there are heaps. Also, the updated Mental Ray version is MUCH better.

I'm still looking at the new features and so far I haven't seen features or "the feature" that I could say, OMFG I gotta have that! 3D programs with features that makes you more productive in less time is always good but it also needs innovation that will make the money we pay worth it. So far, 2011 is looking more like an add-on than a new "version". I could be wrong.

these update are rly not big improvement. especially the floating menus in the middle of the screen and on the side. also why change the ctrl for adding selection only? The way is was was much better and efficient.

This year they don't have nothing even on they software..This year sucks on improvement on their programs,specially on Max 2011...They have to put an option to go back and save your work flow in a 2010 version of max. ....and why,because the 3ds max 2010 it was a real improvement of the software ...and i am not going to buy this '' New Version ''.

im using 3ds max 2009 now, and im using ctrl only for selecting and alt for deselecting. as i can recall, 3ds max 2008 is the same too.

i got maya users telling me they always dreamt having snap tools like max. i never used them :)

on the other hand, although i understand the reason was to clarify workflow i don't like the change of the deselect much. I could do everything with one button, select and deselect and i was happy with that.

maybe we get an option? :)
