One way to tell is that it was written over the span of 1600 years, and most of the writers weren't even alive at the same time, but there were still prophecies-which were made in the Old Testament-fulfilled in later writings. Also, according to historical data (this is from sources not related to Christianity), the Bible has a 99.5% accuracy. How would all of that even be possible if this were a merely act of man and not God?

When the Bible talks about "Fear of the Lord," it does not mean fear of being punished. That is servile fear, and that's the kind of fear that is unhealthy and is cast out by perfect love, according to 1 John 4:18. The fear of the Lord is filial fear- dread of offending or hurting the Father that we love, or being separated from Him. This type of fear that stems from love and respect isn't often used in normal English, thus why it causes confusion. I hope this clears things up a bit.
@kefkapalazzo1 There is no such freakin thing as a good person. That's where you have it wrong. There's no majority ruling with goodness or righteousness. You can't outweigh your sin with good deeds, because your sin still happened. There is only one way to destroy your sin, and that is to ditch your prideful, self-righteousness and confess your sin to the one who gave life, Jesus Christ.

When the bible says fear god. Its not meant in the term we are accustomed. It means to hold in High regard. To strive to please him like you would a parent. I fear god out of respect. I want to make him proud.

The word fear is viewed with very negative connotations, but when people say fear God, they do not mean to fear him in the same way as you would fear something evil. It's more of highly respecting God and his power.

With your parents you love them but you fear the punishment you recieve from not submitting to them. I love God and He loves me but He is King of kings so a major respect is to be there. Um am I the only one these days who believes that God loves me no matter what? Even when I smoke a blunt or believe in evolution, I know God loves. When I believe in God in the Spritual sense, I know that he still loves me. I also believe in God the philosophical way, you know, that way of thinking that got many good people killed because they would never bow to religious, close-minded law.
Yes, God does love you no matter what you do. But if you were to do something you know He doesn't like and be like "Well, He loves me anyway" isn't that like slapping Him in the face? I am not judging you or accusing you in anyway, so if you take it that way that's not what I mean. First off, fear, hebrew word used: yir'âh. def: Morally reverant. Not scared. Not afraid. Not do what I say or you go to hell. It is knowledge of only God is perfect and only God is just.
Second, towards the comments on God's punishments makes Christianity evil. If I broke into your house, killed your family, stole your stuff, all on camera and admitted yes it was me, and the police say its ok we arent going to punish you, how would you feel? Hell is the legal punishment for sin.
Having the fear of God is good. this means that you are afraid of what God is capable of doing because of your sins. therefore you try not to sin because you have the fear of God. God is a Holy God and thats what many of us have forgotten.

With your parents you love them but you fear the punishment you recieve from not submitting to them. I love God and He loves me but He is King of kings so a major respect is to be there. @Mark777X God did not make hell, he gave us free will, to choose him or ourselves, GOD or Satan, Satan uses all selfishness to bring separate you from GOD, he has as much power as we give him, nevertheless, God can redeem us from this, it HAS to be our own choice, freedom of will. remember "resist the devil and he will flee you" you don't understand why GOD made hell an infinite torment?> my dude God has planned out two maximum ends for us.

@Mark777X Jesus, GOD, came in the flesh and lived a perfect life, suffered grotesque abuse, being the highest authority in existence, equal to GOD, laid down his life, he was spit on, mocked, and abused, :(. He did all this being equal to GOD, with of life in HIS hands, to redeem us, to show us our dependance on GOD, and to show the consequences of sin. so when you reject all that awesome act of mercy, equally awesome will be his wrath.

@xelGuATAgAtO your being unfair... the plan seems to be to filter the good from the bad, a good way for god to do this is to lay traps for the week of heart and mind to fall into
i wish to only to hold my nerve till judgement day and judge god for myself to make sure he has the qualities that would merit my being in awe
i would sooner fail the test whilst trying my absolute hardest and using all my faculties than fail by beliving that a perfect god would make a hell and be so cruel

@xelGuATAgAtO How can god have a relationship or communicate with a person who is to afraid to be honest? im hoping ill be able to hold my own in a conversation with god, the way you are talking the rest of you will be busy on your knees or hiding ! what the hell is wrong with questioning god ? if he is perfect then he has nothing to hide or fear of being questioned and if I don’t ask ill never know !

@Mark777X busy on our knees or hiding? let me tell you GOD is not selfish, your character is reflecting on the image of GOD you are portraying, if GOD wanted us to be worshiping 24/7 on our knees he would not need faith to test us, he would just do it. how would do i know that GOD is good and beautiful, first step is reading the gospel, next step is opening up your mind to GOD and seeking him for HIM and not for your own salvation.

@Mark777X hah friend one nourished and one starved? you're not getting it, the first are last, the last are first, he that has shall be given to him even more, and he that has not from him shall be taken away even from what little he does have. God is love and for the sake of justice he must hate hate. You can not understand GOD unless you read the bible! the world is the exact opposite of what our GOD is! start in the new testament. The most significant thing you could do is read the BIBLE

God made us in his image, understand that there is no evil which he knows, there is no temptation he does not understand, there is no pain that he does not know how it feels, he goes with us every step of our life, he feels everything that we feel in the same way. he understands all situations, and all feelings, that's why his judgment will be perfect, any religion, any environment, anything...

The only solution that makes sense is to wait until the end and find out first hand the truth and if that is an unforgivable crime in gods eyes then he doesn’t have eyes and he is to me not worthy.. if however he is just then he will fully understand the need for caution

Satan give you pleasures and comfort and other things. Jesus gives you a cross to carry with him. Which things are good for you? all evil, and all good, are meaningless and torture, we know suffering therefore we know joy, if we all lived like Jesus do you think that the Earth would be like this?
