That is quite the kit my friend, I love old Ludwigs! I use a newer model Ludwig kit (Bonham replica Accent series), but i try my best to get that old Ludwig sound. Keep rockin' man!
a friend is selling a ludwig drum set ( 5 pice ) but he doesen't konw the refference, its all covered in black leather. it costs 650$, is it a good idea to buy it?
hi there awesome set im gettin a mapex pro m 6 pieces one soon what do u think of it?
and also what heads shud i use i had remo pinstripes in head and powerstroke 3 for snare but some1 told me pinstripes sounded to dead im a hard rock drummer please reply =D !
Honestly. Not enough people use ludwigs anymore. I have only had one kit I loved more than my ludwig. That was a 71 chrome slingerland (video up soon). And only one snare I loved more than my 6.5x14 supraphonic and that was a jack lawton custom vistalite snare. LUDWIG FTW
yeah. actually. since i posted that comment i ditched the slingerland and picked up a 72 full vistalite set including 20 inch floor tom. so now i'm all ludwig
Oh thanks...me too. Sometimes you don't have to spend a lot of money to get something that sounds excellent. Hey, thanks for listening and watching...take care...:)
Hey my man......:) Wouldn't mind having a Paiste 2002 14" to test out either. :) Yes, my set has grown a lot since back-in-the-day. I collected it over time, so I wouldn't really know how much it would all cost new at one time...too much for me to pay! :) Anyway, thanks for listening...:) Cheers!
great set man! you seem like a guy that knows absolutely everything about drumming and drums, im hoping to still be playing drums as i get older. this will sound lame but you are an inspiration to me to play drums.
Definitely not everything...:), but I just have a few years under my belt...and you will too. And what you said is not lame at all, every one of us got started because we saw or heard someone play something we liked. Then, along the way, we always see different people doing things we definitely like and we get fired up. That's the way it works...and I thank you kindly for telling me I may have helped get you even more into the drums. Keep pushin' my man...keep pushin. :) And take care...
Thanks man...lots of great drum makers out there, but I still have a special feel for Ludwig. Far as heads, again, lots of choices, but one would be good ol' Remo Pinstripes if you like low-tuned toms. 2-ply 7 mil layers allow you to go pretty low without wrinkling or otherwise going flat. Outer ring dampening reduces overtones too. But try one before you invest in a whole set. Good luck!
Well, it's a matter of personal preference...both are 2-ply (7 mil / 7 mil) heads, pretty thick, so they'll take a lower tuning and still sound good. Pin stripes have an extra dampening coating around the edge of the pinstripe that cuts overtones a bit more than the Emperors. Try just one of each & see which one you like best before you outfit the whole set. Good luck!
Haha...truthfully no, but I remember one in particular who was just unbelievable. The groupers have their own pecking order...Ratt bigger than us, Ratt groupers therefore ignore us. Haha...now see, she didn't know what she was missin'! Haha...Hey, thanks for stopping by...:)
hey maybe ur better off sum of those guys in ratt went down sum dangerous n' fatal paths good to see u got thru all that n' ur still drumming! musta been an awesome experience...
Oh definitely glad I didn't go down any fatal path...and I'm happy I had a chance to do what most people don't get to do...but there'll always be that part of me that wishes I could have hit the real big time. Alas. But I'm cool with it, I'd have never met my wife and had my beloved son. Take care man...:)
I've heard it Pay-stee and Pie-stee (like apple pie). Drum shops usually say Pie-stee, but either way, we know what you're talking about. :) Actually I thought I already answered this a couple days ago, but the comment seems to have gotten chopped or something. Sorry about that. Take care guys...
Thanks my man...yes, you can find them at a music store. Maybe even used for cheaper. Keep looking around for excellent deals on things, trade magazines, stores, ebay, etc. Best of luck, you'll find some things....:)
...continued...:) The throne is a Tama, I actually can't remember the model or what it cost. I think it was one of the only Tamas that had a chairback on it. I actually love it. Can lean back a little if I need to, and solid as can be. And NO MORE SQUEAKS & CREAKS! :) (my old one was pretty well shot). And the snares...Supraphonics are hands down my favorite...right on!
Hi Bonzo...my snare, I generally keep the batter pretty tight, the resonant snare head medium to easy-medium, and the strainer somewhat loose but not TOO loose. Don't know if others would agree, but I like it that way. I also kind of like the "ludalloy" (basically aluminum with chrome)...aluminum is lighter and resonates a little more easily.
:) Don't worry, been there! Most of the spare stuff came from when I was in the business and had to have spares to keep the show going if something broke. And I had the habit of not replacing a head until it broke. :) Hang in there & things will loosen up in time...And thank you for your kind words...:)
Haha...I don't know about that, but thanks anyway. You've left me a lot of very nice comments.....thank you. I appreciate you visiting, and you're welcome anytime. :) Peace.
you mean lowflyer55? Haha...I thought that up because I officially stopped driving faster than everyone else on the road a couple years ago. So many years I always had an unbelievable lead foot! Now I just fly low at about 55. :) Well, I go with traffic, but the 55...you know what I mean. :):)
Hi my man......yes, people have been after me to get back down there and do some more vids...Rush, 80's, 90's, etc. I promise to get back in the saddle...been so busy lately with work and family. Soon I promise, soon. Hey, thanks for listening, & have a great New Year....take care.
Well, it'll have to be your own preference...I kinda like the Sabian 14" Fusion hats...almost got a pair. Nice. Just try several out in a store and see what you like best. Happy hunting! :)
Hey again!... Did you get my message about the new Zildjian that I just got... apparently the guy labeled it wrong.. It's a K series (not custom) 15in. Crash, just let you know about that correction... by the way love the year of your Ludwigs!
Nice...K Zildjians are excellent, excellent cymbals. All the different lines of them, they're all good. Well for that matter, all Zildjians are find cymbals. Enjoy...few things are better than the feeling of having an added cymbal in the stable. :)
Thanks my man! Yes, the Ludwig Supraphonic has always been my favorite snare. Rimshots are unequaled in my opinion. Going to watch the vid you mentioned. Hey, thanks for stopping by...and visit anytime. :) Take care...
Actually I never used the DW pedal, only had it as a spare. I've heard all DW stuff was pretty good though...so if you're thinking about it, you probably wouldn't go wrong...Hey, vist again...:)
Well, the World Percussion (same as Wuhan) 12 inch...actually has a little more bite than the Zildjian. And I can't easily fit anymore cymbals in there & still have them all cleanly strikable. But good question...I probably should use it...:)
:) Or try to get my wife to approve *just one more* little purchase for my set. If she just got done buying some clothes or shoes...then I'm home free & I can do whatever I da*n well please. :) Actually she did just get 2 pr of shoes...cheap and on sale...but still...:):):) Actually I would probably only mount the china if it was replacing a china. A 12" & 16" china is enough for me.
Thanks my man! You don't have to buy replacements all at once, just add gradually, one at a time. If you're lucky, you can find a used cymbal or 2 for a lot less money; some of my additions were used. Try shops, people, ads in papers, etc. Good luck! And thanks for visiting again...:)
Hey my man. Yes, the Wuhan cymbals...I'm like you, I think they're great. They sound great & the price is right...what more could you ask? :) Hey, thanks for stopping by & watching...:)
Nobody notable or nationwide. Midwest, about 6 states on regular tour (the last band) was as far as I went. Steady work though...Hey, thanks for watching...:)
Hello Dan, and salute to the U.K.! Those are Evans EQ1 batters, single-ply 10ml, with built-in internal overtone control rings. Since I'm not miked currently, I like it to be wide open, loud and punchy instead of tightly muffled down (and more quiet). I don't know, it's all kind of a taste thing; I might feel differently next month. :) Hey, thanks for watching and take care...
Thanks my man...my set thanks you too! :) I just sort of accumulated it over time. If you keep at it, the same thing will happen to you when you get as old as a tree like I am. Haha...hey, thanks for watching...:)
i have a Ludwig Accent CS Combo w/ 18" Crash Ride Planet Z, 14" HiHat Planet Z, and a 14" Thin Crash Avedis Zildjian. no double bass. just original 5 piece set. any suggestions what to get next?
It's all good...sort of like a candy store. :) How about a splash to compliment your current crash? That might be nice, and because of their size they're more affordable than larger crashes...and they're an EXCELLENT sound to add to your set. I guess a lot of it depends on how much money you have to spend. That can be hard to come by...thanks for stopping by my man...
That's...impressive. How much would you say all that equipment has cost you up until now? What's the difference between nylon tipped and wood tipped sticks? sorry i'm a drum newbie =). Oh and BTW, what do you think of those electronic drumsets? I didn't think they'd be good, but i've tried them out at Sam Ash and it was kind of neat being able to get all these different sounds out of it. But the feeling ain't the same though, and i guess that's what matters most.
Hey Mot! I don't know what it would all cost now...too much for me! Haha...I accumulated it in pieces except for the original set. Let's see...nylon tips make a crisper tap on a ride cymbal, wood tips are slightly warmer (softer). Electronic set? I'd LOVE to have one! Yes, the feel is different, but still, like you said, all the different sounds, and all of them perfect...is hard to resist. And...headphones for practice...you wouldn't bother anyone.
Haha...well as always, you're very kind. :) Hey, was that your girl singing to the radio in the car? I was laughing like a kid! Haha, reminded me of my own (son, but still...). Nothing compares to the perfection of the kiddos of the world. Thanks my man...

haha like all of your cymbals are thin or medium thin. Maybe thats why you break so many? just a thought. Sick kit and set up though!

thin and medium thin cymbals last alot longer than heavy cause they vibrate in a "natural" way. Heavy cymbals are stiff.

Hi Bonzo...my snare, I generally keep the batter pretty tight, the resonant snare head medium to easy-medium, and the strainer somewhat loose but not TOO loose.

Awsome set, i love how you took diffrent combinations of cymbals and made then work to your advantage.

Thanks my man...yeah, some might say I don't need that many, & they're probably right...but I LIKE them. :) Thanks for stopping by...

That's great, you still have the kit that you bought when you were 13. How cool!

Hi Mark! Thanks...I just went through it again and now it's seeming to me like it's tedious. Crap. Oh well...thanks for stopping by my man!

Tedious? Oh, hell no! Your presentation is very
interesting. I felt like I was there in your basement. Cymbals, Lugs, Ludwigs...Yeah!

Haha...well as always, you're very kind. :) Hey, was that your girl singing to the radio in the car? I was laughing like a kid! Haha, reminded me of my own (son, but still...). Nothing compares to the perfection of the kiddos of the world. Thanks my man...
