I know, Thrist, The 2009 Korean Horror Film, may probabily has The Loose Inspiration from The UK and Ireland's Classic Horror Novel of Bram Stoker's Dracula. :D
@misChristineDae2 Whatever you said would be much better if it made sense grammatically. Why people don't spellcheck or proof things before posting, I'll never know.
@misChristineDae2 well, maybe because the idea of vampires is christian based; vampires used to be godforsaken and live according to anything unholy and satanic, that's why they melt at holywater and stuff. So why not put in Jesus name?
First, this movie is BRILLIANT! I loved it. It's funny, though, because none of the trailers have touched on how totally hilarious it is as well.
Second, I thought vamps were only supposed to be as good looking as they were at the time they were turned? If you're an average looking person and get turned, you'll be an average looking vamp. Too much of this Twilight tween/teen supermodel nonsense has infected people's minds. Lame.
In other old vampire films vampires weren't that great looking. I mean, if park stuck with the vampire image most teens have then he wouldn't be the great director he is. He wouldn't be making awesome films.
so sorry to say...the lead actor is really good in acting but they could have chosen a younger one...vampires are supposed to be incredibly handsome to get women but this...i might as well zip it to avoid any fights...
Vampires use charm to get their girls... Count Orlock from Nosferatu was ugly as hell but that didnt stop him from mesmerizin Mia/Ellen. Besides...vampires look like whatever they did when they get turned. Remember Little Kirstin Durst in Interview with a Vampire? Even Vampire Eddy in season 1 of True Blood.
that's actually what i loved about the film...it took a whole new direction with the vampire genre, casting a pretty boy would mean to damn it with cliches....& director Park chan-wook knew that.
well that's one of the ironic parts of this film...they have the vampire character as a PRIEST who is pretty plain looking...i would say its better than having a "hot" vampire like some other movies.... >.>
And Twilight made millions and millions while this film will have such a limited audience... Can Chan Wook Park do anything wrong? This hands down may be his most dramatic and interesting (Oldboy probably best narrative, and MAYBE Lady Vengeance is his most powerful) ... But this just looks so good. I pray for a stateside release.
No non-Hollywood film will or can make millions and millions no matter how brilliant it is. The only way this movie can do that is if remade with young pretty actors with Hollywood pizazz and English dialogues. But then it wouldn't be Chan-Wook Park's movie anymore who has a small but loyal audience who appreciates his craft.
Those are very few abnormalities. Life is Beautiful made a descent money in art house circuit with a boost from Oscar buzz. It was hardly a blockbuster. Crouching Tiger is the only movie that did it and as I said, it was one bleep in the radar and was not repeated again. Not all but mass American audience do not like subtitle. They don't even like different accents i.e Brit or Aussie unless they see an actor they can recognize. That's a fact. So no choice but remakes.
I was talking about making millions and millions as a foreign language film in International and American Market. Bollywood movie market is big indeed but it's such an insular market. Outside it, it rarely makes headlines. Except perhaps England where there are large population of Indians and Pakistanis.
OMG I didn't know this film was with Kim Ok Bin. I saw "Le festival de Cannes" in Canal +. When they showed movies but now, I really want to watch it !!

*SPOILER WARNING*
Oh and again on the "vampire beauty" thing,
Tae-Ju (Kim Ok-Vin), the young woman, IS absolutely BEAUTIFUL; especially after she's turned and is all evil and blood-lusty.

That's a bit of an exaggeration.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Life is Beautiful, and realms of English speaking non-Hollywood films have made millions and millions.
