  • Wow. kangaroo boxing referee.... Hmm, what did they do back then? Then again, it isn't as strange as what we do these days.

  • Arlene wrote in her book that on this day of filming, her friend had given her a pill that made her go a bit crazy.

  • Only New Yorkers pronounce "rodeo" that way (3:38 & 3:48). Aaron Copland was a New Yorker hence the pronunciation of his ballet.

  • Arlene looks even prettier all flushed, lol. If I may say so. :P

  • Since she said she toured with The Beverly Hillbillies, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if her Sydney played the kangaroo in the episode "The Giant Jackrabbit" which must have been filmed around the time of this episode of WML. That's quite a claim to fame: to this day, that's the highest rated "regular" TV show of all time. By that I mean, not a "special" type of episode, such as the Beatles appearing on Ed Sullivan or Lucy having her baby or the final episodes of "M*A*S*H" or "The Fugitive."

  • Once again, why did the panel not take that time-tested and effective method: Is it NOT a dog? Is it NOT a pig? Is it NOT in the cattle family? I didn't keep a count, but that would've saved about 7 questions. Still might not have been enough to get "referee", but still....

  • I think Arlene had a little joy sauce before the show.

  • Good! They got stumped!

  • Dorothy had a beautiful dress on.

  • Now all I want to do is watch that Beverly Hillbillies episode with Granny boxing with "the giant jack rabbit"! I remember that one - haahha

  • Haven't watched it yet (just the sign in) but I must admit even I was a little stunned to see that the kangaroo ref was a woman lol! I guess for ME times have not changed THAT much. Just an old-fashioned girl I am LOL

  • lmao wow!!! Arlene's first question!!! that was a mouthful right there!!

  • you could tell Tony played the game seriously

  • i wonder if this sydney was the same kangaroo that granny fought on 'the beverly hillbillies.' (she mistook it for a "giant jack rabbit" remember?)

  • i remember.

  • ironically, while Arlene looks tipsy Dorothy looks sober here; considering Dorothy was the one with the real problem over the years.

  • This is 1963. After Dorothy's hospitalization early in the year, she seems pretty sober in 1963, through 1964, though most of 1965.

In May 1963, Arlene nearly died in an auto wreck. In fact when she returned to the panel, she wore her right arm in a sling to protect her healing broken collar bone. Is this a pain medication reaction?? Self medicating with alcohol for pain?? Pain medication and alcohol??

  • I didn't realize she'd had that long a period of sobriety. she looks great here. thanks for info on Arlene--didn't know about her accident. i guess she was accident prone. In light of accident she may have indeed had some pain med on board--possibly with alcohol. Again Dorothy looks so great here. So sad what was down the road for her.

  • (2:14 > ) Wow -- Arlene is kind of . . . . flushed. They should put a pot of coffee right there for her.

  • I like the thing on Dorothy's hair. it looks pretty with her hair longer.

  • Dorothy wore her hair high regularly in 1962 - 1964. Popular style then to give the illusion of height. I like best her big hair period of 1965.

  • How rude Kate, I thought we were bmf :( You even gave me thumbs down. I was just being nice. I wont give you thumbs down but I hope a lot of people do!

  • What did John call Dorothy? Was it Chief? Dorothy looks lovely here :)

  • The fire department had made her an honorary member, as I recall.

  • Agree, i think Dorothy looks especially pretty here.

  • i agree too!! she's soo adorable, and that cute little giggle she has..lol

  • She looks beautiful and seems extremely happy here.

  • What's with logging in all the clones to rate your comments higher?

  • She sure does look lovely.

  • Haha that was funny :D But I don't blame them for not getting it, who would ever think of that line? ;D Haha, Arlene's "Sydney, Australia?"
