The Damned tried to make it seem like Brian was never in the band after this album. But the truth is, they were never better than this imo. And this is my favorite Damned album.
stretchercase -you are totally wrong. How dare you trash a whole different generation of kids just because they were younger than you and you got too old to understand...you sound a bit like your parents did. Most of us loved the old punk bands but couldn't live in the past.
agreed - i loved this lp when it came out...but it did suffer a bit from mason's production. still - i think it stands up really well all this time later. criminally under appreciated.
I always saw this as an extension of Damned damned damned. Personally I preferred this to Machine gun etiquette. Great song. It's no wonder Brian James played guitar for Iggy on his new values tour 1979
I loved the Damned when I was a youngster-I got into the new wave bands about 76/77-saw the Damned and a whole lot of other groups then-the Skids, the Scars, groper, uK Subs etc. The Damned were always my favourites. Then the fuckin morons with their huge spiky hair and leather jackets came along and fucked it for all of us.
They just didn't get it at all the fuckin idiots.
they thought to be a punk you had to wear a leather jacket/high leg docs/have big spiked hair-what a fucking joke.
I remember buying this LP from Bruces rcord shop i9n Rose street in edinburgh, and riding home in the bus to Winchburgh to listen to it. It was kind of a let down for me-had a gloomy feel to it-may have been the production.
Plus the line up of the band had changed.
Saw them in "78 as the doomed-Dave wasn't with them. Awesome concert though at Clouds Ballroom in edinburgh!

Barely a bad song on the album. Shame the band put it down so much.

Agree, a very good album. Produced by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason.

@leivhuns i wonder why as a drummer he didn't notice that the drums sound like bullshit on this album

@okcomputer1016 Yeah, sure.... I can't stop singing Scabies' praises as a drummer, PERIOD. His hero was Moon the Loon.
