I'm still on the fence about term limits. If there are no term limits then representatives won't fear being voted out. Bad legislatures will not be threatened since they will leave anyway and good legislatures will be removed.

This can be a problem, especially if there's a less known, grassroots funded candidate, other than Rand, running against a Robert Byrd or John McCain. It would be harder to dethrone them since they can easily buy their re-election, especially with the Supreme Court's recent ruling on campaign finance.

I don't personally believe Rand Paul is racist, but he certainly knows his audience and uses the exact language to appeal to others prejudice. I believe he will probably win in Kentucky, but I hope not. We have enough unschooled ignorant people in the US, why crown one of them a statesman?

I like what I see in Rand Paul. I just want to hear him say that "WE WILL" get the illegals out of this country, or at least the state of Kentucky. More and more states are wanting to follow the Arizona leadership and adopt these new measures. Let the states do what the Federal government REFUSES to do. Uphold our laws. And make the candidates PROVE their eligbility BEFORE they are placed on the ballot!!! Arizona is leading we need to follow.

@purplefetus3 There is no god given right to run for office. God doesn't build governments men do. Our government's true purpose is to protect our liberties. Our founding fathers decided a republic would accommodate this purpose best and thus created the foundations of our current system; however, you are not automatically given the right to run for office. You must be over a certain age and have a certain history (no felonies) to run. if the right was god given, then such things would be wrong

I'm still on the fence about term limits. If there are no term limits then representatives won't fear being voted out. Bad legislatures will not be threatened since they will leave anyway and good legislatures will be removed.
I like being able to vote out the bad garbage representatives.

@purplefetus3 We all know that career/bad politicians (and there's a lot of them), cater to special interests and are well known to lobbyists. This can be a problem, especially if there's a less known, grassroots funded candidate, other than Rand, running against a Robert Byrd or John McCain. It would be harder to dethrone them since they can easily buy their re-election, especially with the Supreme Court's recent ruling on campaign finance.

Overall, term limits should make Government more effecient and less appealing to those who simply want to make a living profiting from it, and so there would be fewer bad legislators. It could also have a(much needed) negative impact on career lobbyists.

@abola2121 Those are good points. But my concern is what will prevent every representative taking office from NOT selling out. Special interest groups can buy out the representative and the next one that takes his place. Additionally, the representative will not have anything at stake to lose since he's already in office. Any representative can be corrupted and bought. We the people will have no way of keeping the good reps and throwing out the corrupt ones. How will term limits solve this?

After a period of time, they have NO IDEA what their constituency wants...nor do they care! They become completely out of touch w/ regular people.
