@DrmrGuy1979 I'm following you. I think that the corps has had tough time finding an identity since Gail died. The closest they came to reestablishing that vibe was in the late 90's, then Valenzuela fired the brass staff that helped get them there. I think a HUGE mistake was letting go of Dean Westman and Gordon Henderson after 02. IMO,the Cavies marching style is more of a shock than anything PR is doing. I guess I'm just a Rennick fan and came to his defense. Not that he needs it.

I respect tradition as much as the next guy but the tradition that you speak of is not that old.....92ish?...Well, I guess that is old, geez, 20 years ago :(... I see your point but I think its a tad bit more Murray Gusseck than Vanguard "tradition." When I think of Vanguard tradition, I think of Gail, innovative shows, class, character, aspects of the uniform...not so much slanted drums and cool double beat exercises.

murray and the classic warm ups are gone....and you guys act like Rennick had been with PR forever...I remember Lee Beddis, before that Prosperie and before that Marty Hurley. I think its neat how the sound and the styles change over the years. I wish PR (Paul Rennick that is) the best of luck at Vanguard.

Rennick tunes his drums low compared to Gusseck. Listen to how high every battery instrument from last year to this year.

the drums are tuned so high so that you can hear how fucking clean they are. they reefed their drums like BD but play them like an actual corps snareline.
