  • wow it's really difficult to see a poly like this, good job

  • @dodge440bigblock

Thanks... it's in now, I have another video of it running on this channel. I love the confused looks when people see this and wonder what it is... most people don't see Poly's like this, especially at Mopar shows!

  • how much hp are you shooting for roughly? :/

  • @mfuji02 Haven't put it on the dyno yet, but we were guessing about 350-375.

  • Just one question. What kind /brand of headers do you got on it? I wanna buy some for my 318 but cant find some for my C-Body! Thanks

  • @mtz90rox

You can get them at TTI Exhaust, these headers will fit 65-66 C-Bodies with the Poly. They aren't cheap - in price or quality, about $650 but very nice headers.

  • can i ask where you scored those valve covers from? the only aftermarket ones i have found are made in australia and are all chrome billet. I'd prefer your style, thanks.

  • @yamahawk

These are the same ones, I just had them powder coated with black wrinkle-finish and then machine sanded the fins.

  • such a cool motor. my 1958 Dodge Power Wagon has one in it sombody swapped in.

  • Cool i got a poly in my 59 plymouth hope to get some power out of it whe funds allow! Matt in the uk!

  • Love the vid!! but was wondering if you could tell me what that song playing in it was? It sounds like a song that I haven't heard in years....so many years in fact, that the last time I heard it, I probably had something with an old 318 in it as well.

  • thanks....yeah, that's an old song from the late 70's called Driver's Seat....still sounds great 30 years later!

  • The song name is "Drivers Seat" performed by Sniff and the Tears.

  • engine looks real good, I 'm building a Poly 400 horser myself, planting it in my 65 Fury...should upset some rice burnin' dudes!!

  • kewl...how's your project coming along? I"m still lagging ...funds, time, mortgage comes first, etc.... lol

  • yeah, I'm in the same boat, but determined to get it done, getting the short block together, then get it balanced, and onwards...i've gone for the 402 stroker with a Weiand ally highrise inlet with either a 600 or 750 cfm holley, spitfire headers(they'll do for now). looking at big stainless valves,a bit of 'head work, got a 480 lift cam,Ross pistons, Eagle stroker crank and rods,+90thou bore, high volume oil pump and some other goodies to! Cant wait to go for a ride!!! Had my 727 beefed up to......

  • i've got a poly 318 in my 66 charger. where on earth did you find a dual quad intake?? and headers?? i've been thinking about emailing hooker to see if they'll custom make them since i can't find any. any suggestions?

  • finally my reply posted...third times a charm!

I traded the Weiand for a primo factory dual quad a few years ago...a few are floating around these days, but are pricey!

Headers are TTI (ttiexhaust) and are very nice. Ask for Sam...they used my car for test fitting/installation - which you must follow to a 'T'.

also check out moparmecca, they have some poly influences as well. unfortunately, not many companies care abou the poly these days.

  • I can help you with High Performance or stock Poly parts; cams, intakes, headers, pistons...all you need to build a Hot Poly.

Let me know how I can help put your Poly and many others on the road ahead of the ....other guys.

  • Killer motor!!! Ive seen those poly head stickers on ebay do you make them? love those valve covers did you get them through Gary P? that motors just perfect!!!

  • thanks...no, the stickers aren't mine. The valve covers come from a company in Australia, I believe. I've seen them polished, but I liked the wrinkle-finish and had them powdercoated. I'm anxious to get it put in the car, I'll likely video the start up and post it here. thanks!

  • Nice!!!

  • very tasty rims and hubcaps.

  • Yes, alot of people refer to the Poly motor as a 'wide block' 318. I have one in a '67 Coronet 440, but it's not the orig motor. From what I ready, the only Poly's used in '67were leftovers used in large trucks and some Canadian cars. Mine was recently pulled from a large '67 box truck, with only 12,000 miles on it! Runs absolutely great and hasn't leaked a drop of oil, I couldn't believe it. My old Stromburg carb is crap though, float is gone and I had to weld one in out of an old Carter.

  • My problem, as stated below, is the overpriced intakes! I know when Weiand quit they skyrocketed like mad. I really really need to get my hands on a 4bbl, aluminum or stock, but they're both goin over 400 bucks! You can get a 3x2 or 2x4 for that price! Love my poly though, looks mean and sounds even meaner! I'll get a vid up...

  • is the "poly" what some people refer to as a "wide block" 318? please excuse my ignorance ;) and does anybody know what my options are or where i could get a "one wire" or "self energizing" alternator for my 68 furyIII? -318-

  • By the way that engine is beautiful how much HP increase after the rebuild?

  • Nice poly bt, I have a stroker project in the works myself (there's a poly yahoo group btw) and I also have a dual quad but also a P600. I also have the aussie vc and the tti's ready, like you. 4" pistons and 4" crank should make for 402" and 500+ HP. It's out of one of my 65 4D belvs and going into my 64 belv 4d sleeper, roller rockers and rb hyd. cam. Mopar baby!

  • I know that, silly man! I'm the one who sold you all those poly parts a few years ago! Nice to see you 'around' again....I've been out of the loop awhile!

  • btw...are the roller rockers actually ready or still in the works? I heard to expect to pay big bucks for them.

  • I wondered if that was you! They are from what I know via Bill Richardson and others. I've resided to wait for them and the "wow" factor of rollers and a P600. I've been engrossed with work myself so only been lurking. Seasons change though and I'm getting the urge again.

  • Beautiful man! Just a quick question, what made you pick yellow for the block? Weren't the 65' polys red? Nice Valve covers btw. I am envious!

  • Thanks....as with the Poly, I wanted to have something different. Since red isn't my favorite color, I just thought it would look pretty kewl in the engine bay. I've seen silver and blue, also...but never yellow.

The covers are from a company in Australia, they come polished so I powder coated them wrinkle finish. They're pretty good quality, I like them...really adds a beefy look to the engine.

  • I think the tune is black is black by Gene Pitney.

  • Nope...as stated above: Driver's Seat is the title.

  • Thanks, can't wait to get it tuned and in the car. The song is from the 70's called Driver's Seat..by Sniff n' the Tears.

  • Where the hell did you find Poly 318 speed parts?

  • LOL...I collected them over the years before the prices went ballistic. I traded a primo factory 4x2 for the Weiand, got the headers from TTI (they used my car to test fit) and the valve covers are from an australian company. hard to come by these days!

  • Where in the hell did you find a Weiand Dual Quad Intake !!!!!!!! Please post the part number. PLEAAAASSSSE. I need one for a 67 Monaco.

  • Do you have a Poly in your 67 Monaco? It didn't come with a Poly, as far as I know...66 was the last year (Canadian). If you have an LA 318, check Summit Racing, but this manifold hasn't been made in decades.

  • Well... most books have it wrong. Of the final polys that were cast and assembled in Windsor, ON in 66, many found their way in to 67 C-body line. Infact, it would probably be more rare to find an LA motor in a Windsor built 67 C-body than a poly.

I hadnt ever seen a Weiand dual quad for the poly and didnt even know they existed.

I would be just as happy with a cast iron 2-4 but am in awe of your poly.

  • OH, most newer books will have the poly run stated 57-66 (67 Canadian) but even my 67 shop manual makes this distinction.

  • You know, now that you mention it, I guess I was off by one year because I'm pretty sure they had a Poly in the 66 Charger in the US, so it was 67 for Canada like you say. My bad. I just remembered that Canada was 1 year later, and I forgot it was 67. I see the single 4 weiand go for like $300+ now...amazing.

  • Thanks... These manifolds are rare, not sure when they ended prod, but I've seen about 8 floating around ebay over the years. Now that the single 4 is discont, they all skyrocketed in price. I got this a few years ago...lucked out, made a trade for a cast iron + 100 bucks!

  • I have a 67 Coronet 500 with the stock 318 Poly. Even though the car was assembled in MI right on the bottom of the build sheet it states "318 CAN" They must have had the engine shipped to the plant from Canada or installation.

  • oooaaadx

  • hey, thanks!

  • That's a lovely bit of kit :)

  • Only 350 HP from over 1000 cfm of carburetion? You should be making at least 400 HP.

  • jackass!!! lol thats gotta be one of the most badass cars Mopar made..64 Dodge 330, 65 Belvedere, 68 Coronet R/T, 70 Cuda/Challenger..and the 66 to 69Cudas..pretty much anything mopar from that era kicked some ass..lots as a matta fack..

  • what size carbs are you running?

  • I'm going to try a 600 primary and a 500 secondary, the shop will have the carbs tuned on the dyno. If it doesn't work I'll try a pair of 500's. I'll post another video when the shop gets their dyno repaired.

  • Wow, that's a done-up semi-hemi! We have the same fuel pump and remote-mount oil filter. Wish I had those headers! Can't wait to see/hear it on the dyno!

  • Thanks...I can hardly wait either, but delays abound! TTI borrowed my car to test fit and install the headers, the poly headers are the first entry in the latest TTI catalog! I'll video the dyno run and post it, without a doubt!

  • great lookin engine! so tuff! haha yeah it's got a POLY.. I'm gonna guess 350hp? I hope you have more but I'll just guess lol

  • thanks...with all we put into it we're thinking 350-375. I've been waiting for the engine builder to get their dyno repaired so I can get run on it, and break it in & fine tune the carbs. I can't wait to hear it run!
