People are obsessed with hp/liter..who cares that the 3.9 puts out "only" 230 hp, it has a lot of torque and gets decent fuel economy (especially considering it has a 4-speed trans). I'd rather have a 3.9 with 230 hp and 240 ft-lbs than a 3.0 V6 with 230 hp, much more usable power with the 3.9.
The Lucerne isn't a bad car for what it is, except the 3.9l should have had more horsepower and torque and GM should have invested a lot more time in the interior.
it is a 2010 Lucerne 3.9 liter, and actually i normally drive a 2009 BMW 550i , but a truck rear ended me which is why i have this piece of crap. And im in the BMW autocross club so ive driven everything from vettes to 335i BMWs. If i say its crap it probally crap. A 4000 lb car should never ever be frontwheel drive.
@rocketw25 Okay, yes by comparison a Lucerne won't handle like a 550i or a Corvette, and to expect it to is unreasonable. The Lucerne is not designed to be a sports car, it's designed to transport four people in quiet luxury and that it does very well. If you compare it to the cars it actually competes with (none of which are sports cars either) it more or less handles the same, but we found the Lucerne to have better fit and finish and a better ride than it's competitors.
@hondaman94 Don't you find that getting 220 hp out of a V6 and only ~290 out of a V8 is pretty bad? The Maximas have had over 260hp out of a V6 for several generations and they're all much faster and lighter as well while being big, spacious, comfortable 4-door sedans. If you compare this to the Infinitis it starts to look even worse, there's no competition.
@iSOBigD Honestly, yes although the dynamics are different (and to be fair it's closer to 230 than 220). What it lacks in top end power it makes up for in low end grunt. But the new Buick V6s are excellent, our new Enclave has 288 with the 3.6 and there are several versions of the 3.6 that have over 300. But, as nice as the 3.6 is it doesn't have the low end that the Lucerne does. Once the revs start building though there is no comparison.
@adogg619 Look up the word efficiency. Lots of cars have over 500 hp but few are faster and cheaper than a Nissan GTR. It has nothing to do with what I buy, it just has to do with you being a fanboy who ignores facts. Why use a bigger, heavier engine if you'll have the same or less horse power than an engine which weighs less and uses less gas?
Me being a fanboy and ignoring facts, what are you talking about? Reread my post again. Then you ramble on about a GTR on a Buick Lucerne video. You are just jumping way off topic. I didn't know if you were going to reply to my comment or not, but I was expecting a more intelligent, down to earth response. Come on dude.
@adogg619 Being illiterate and slow is bad enough, but being in denial about it is a serious problem. I clearly asked, "Why use a bigger, heavier engine if you'll have the same or less horse power than an engine which weighs less and uses less gas?" And your answer was, "Come on dude." I give up.
@casinotriple It also costs more than GTR, has 2 less seats, less features and is harder and more dangerous to drive, isn't all wheel drive, etc. I love Corvettes but what's your point? I was talking about value for your money and the GTR has way more.
@iSOBigD It's more expensive, you're also getting more performance for your money. Heck even the 2012 Z06 beats the 2011 GT-R on the Nurburgring. And those 2 are in the same price range. Don't believe me, look it up. By the way those extra 2 seats in the back are very small. The fact that a GT-R is easier to drive, doesn't necessarily make it better. It takes a driver with skill to handle a high power, torque monster, RWD, manual car like the Corvette.
@casinotriple Sure, but 99.9% of drivers look for a safe car that they can drive anywhere, not a racetrack car without room for their friends or family, no good sound system, no air conditioning, etc. for the same price or more. Again, I like Corvettes and I love supercars, but they're extremely overpriced for what little they offer, that's all. Nobody wants to do a 360 into a pole while trying to just turn a little or die when driving over a puddle of water. Those are basic features...
@rocketw25 You must have not driven a lot of cars...or yours had a different suspension than mine. It handles pretty well for a 4000+ pound full size luxury sedan, I find.
@2005buickallure Oh, well the LeSabre and Park Avenue's were almost the same car's except the Park Avenue has a lot more luxuries than that of the LeSabre's.
3.8 not 3.9

@vezos22 It is a 227 horsepower 3.9 liter V6, not the 195 horsepower 3.8.

You strike me as just another foolish consumer that buys cars based on horsepower alone.

Ever heard of a Corvette ZR1? That car actually takes some skill to drive. The GTR is all computer controlled. No talent required.

@iSOBigD I think 220 horsepower out of a 3.9 is very good. I drive a 2001 s-10 xtreme with a 4.3 liter v6 that makes 180 horse and gets 15 mpg.
