I cant believe Joell Ortiz supports WYCLEF in his presidential campainge!!! I've been a Clef fan since the Fugee days - but i dont support him politically. Wyclef is anti-Aristide (and Joell talks for Aristide in this song) and worse yet, Wyclef is a RIGHT WING. Read this: vvvvvv DOT prevalhaiti DOT c o m/messages DOT php/23646
Much respect to Joell Ortiz. He's one of the rappers that should be heard more often on radio instead of all that mainstream bullshit which why I rarely listen to the radio nowadays. He's right about America's shady ways towards Haiti and then want to turn around and act like they have Haiti's best interest.
"before the ground shoke we never offered them love/people was eating cakes made of oil, water and mud/SUPRICE they live in homes that would easily collaps/or that in the aftermath healthcare would be a wrap/or that food would be scarse and that kids would grab a gat/and threaten his homies life if he aint share a snack"
this been on constant replay in the last couple of days....Joell is the dopest cat out since Nas, Common & Talib Kweli.... yall need to keep an eye out for his album and support
"A tear comes to my eye when I look at CNN/ it took a tragedy for us to try to be they friend" or "See Haiti's history is full of debt to other nations/ the U.S. paid they debt to France but not to help the Haitians" and even "Nothing but a short step to 2004/ health care was approved, they was educating the poor/ minimum wage doubled, the people opened up stores" and "The people being dying/ Haiti's being crying/ "We trying to do the best we can"... stop lying. Ortiz spits the illest TRUTH!!!!!
WORD. people start giving a shit now, but this was NOT a natural disaster. Now we cant do nothing about natural phenomenas as earthquakes, but the consequenses it had for Haiti were man made. If the country hadnt been so poor and pimped out, if housing was more adequate, then it wouldnt have had the same devastating impact. If Haiti had more robust built hospitals and more educated doctors, then people wouldnt have had to amputate their legs and arms just because they were broken.
Man, IMPERIALISM has kept Haiti this poor. It is to blame for Haiti being a mess now. Also if the entire world followed socialist principles, then Haiti would have had much more immediate and UNCONDITIONAL help. No loans, but international solidarity.
Guess what, the new global weather has caused unusual cold in countries like India were people have died. Now if people weren't living like STRAYDOGS in the streets over there, if they had adequate housing and electricity, then this would never had been a problem. Let's say the temperature sink and millions freezes to death in India. First then start people caring. Start to care now. And i dont mean by giving aid, i mean UPROOT THE PROBLEM which is capitalism. PEACE JOELL ORTIZ
If your friend loans you some money, it's a favor.
If a bank loans your country some money, it's a business decision.
And if the IMF loans your country some money, it's a power-grab.
Loaning a poor nation money is not a favor, it's a business decision and/or a power grab.
I was really surprised at Ortiz for this. It's one thing to rap about poverty in your own life, it's another connect poverty and politics in another country. He really outshined Wyclef (Wyclef supported the coup in '04).
