  • "I just wanted to tell you were all counting on you!"

  • when the controller said turn right .... they never turneddddddd

  • @mejus16 Actually, they did turn right, because right after the Air Traffic Controller told them to, the Captain turned his steering wheel right. (from our point of view, he's turning left.)

  • This movie was a big inspiration to why I became an air traffic controller. FYI, most of the air traffic controllers in the movie were actual air traffic controllers. When I first started, I worked with a few of these guys at Los Angeles! Great memories. Same thing in Close Encounters, they used real controllers there as well.

  • Great Movie - I seen it at the Theater in 1970 - I fly Boeing 707's All the time to this Day , I have 15 of them - in my Hanger - You can Fly 707's too - just go to Captain Sim.Com and you'll need Flight Simulator FSX as Well !

  • still one of my favorite movies since I was A kid

  • if they ever re make these it needs to be on a 737 those planes are just as strong as a 707 maybe even stronger

  • @shawnarkovlog

Probably stronger. The difference in ride between an MD-80 or even the Airbus and a Boeing product is huge. They're building the C-17 for a reason.

  • I love how the back section of the plane carrying the wounded Jacqueline Bisset character doesn't even shake as the plane touches down. Still, it's a fun movie with a kind of glamour we don't see very often any more.

  • One of the passengers is played by an uncredited Marco Lopez, who later starred in, "Emergency!"

  • i like the 707, including all planes of Boeing, from 707 to 777

  • i like the 707, including all planes of Boeing

  • Best Airport movie made and the 707 can do everything but read it...

  • my favorite plane ever the 707

  • The flight controller guy voice in this sounds like a robot from "Lost in Space".

  • True that...soap opera aside, the plot incidents of the first "Airport" movie were quite plausible, while those of the sequels were frankly bad scifi.

  • Sorry to be a killjoy but let's face it Airport was nothing but a harlequin romance set in an airport..... albeit the movie looks good in *COMPARISON* to the later abominations with the "Airport xxx" names.

  • awesome movie

  • oh believe me i no itsover 40 years old so am i its just they could have made the cockpit scene alittle more reall but great movie

  • looks so real not

  • @joeleepenny It is over 40 years old ...

  • It's amazing that this movie is 41 years old however the Minneapolis Airport tower (where it was filmed) practically looks the same as it is shown at the beginning of the movie.

  • lol thats a flexible fuselage on landing !!! XD

  • I just wanted to know if he did use thrust reversers. It appears as if he has armed the thrust reversers.

  • I believe that this is the only one of the airport movies to take place mostly in an airport.

  • airport est un de mes meilleur film aérien !!!! bravo aux 2 pilotes vernon et anson pour avoir reussi un super atterrissage d'urgence !!!

  • @bredan232 ohh yes. they were one of the first to end the use of radial engines in airlines.

  • Dino thinking "I need a drink!".

  • got you

  • thats an ILS approach jeez thats old

  • @airdelta9 still doing ils at jfk

  • @neweast1 i mean't that that was a weird ILs approach he was giving them instructions to like pitch up then 2 degrees down then slightly above glide scope usually you just disconnect AP when you reach the runway

  • @airdelta9 It's called a Precision Radar Approach...

  • @airdelta9 Precision Approach Radar (PAR)-- used a lot in the day by military controllers when pilots had no visual reference. They use it in the moviw Skyjacked also

  • @airdelta9 yep and we still have it today. they are a load of fun to use.

    Happy flyings :)

  • you gotta love it (and I do) .... but watch the flight deck bobble back and forth but no the plane !

    A REAL CLASSIC !! 5* !!!

  • the ATC is just being curtious and reminding them...the pilots have alot of other things to think about.

  • I find this ATC extremely annoying. It's the pilot's responsibility to check if the gear is down and locked.

  • @SFConifer check landing incidents for air canada they were know for wheels up approches,us controller were made to ask them gear down?

  • @SFConifer he is doing everything right. during emergencies ATC would read off the position of the plane on the ILS to the pilot and would also tell them if they need to correct. i found it to be very accurate.

    Happy flyings :)

  • After watching this movie many times, I never realized that Global 2 did a power slide at the end! I always thought it was just a hard right turn. Kudos to the flight crew! Also, from 2:04 on... one of the best climaxes to a movie ever!

  • Dude put the wing tip right over the fence in a power slide. His mark had to spot on to make this happen.

  • Did he even flare the aircraft? It looked like he put the nose wheels right into the ground. Or at least touched the nose and main gear at the same time.

  • You can barely see it, but there is a flare. It's just not as noticeable.

  • Look at 2:50. There's a flare, though not much of one.

  • how about atc dress brfore patco disater, should go back to it if its a profession

  • I keep waiting for the funny bit. I thought it was `Airplane`.

  • Doesnt Dean Martins copilot look like George Jones, the country singer?

  • yes he does just some you that is barry nelson and he was the first actor to play james bond before sean connery

  • "Airport" was the first of the blockbusters of the 1970's. It literally saved Universal from bankruptcy and restructure as other studios such as MGM were auctioning off everything. It was made in an era when movies were made for adults and not kids. Also, air travel was a luxury and had a glamour and mystique about it. "Airport" did for flying what "Jaws" did for swimming and "Psycho" did for showering. Under appreciated movie with great musical score and cool use of split screen.

  • I toured Universal Studios with my parents back in the summer of 1971. They had an audience participation section of the tour where they taped an audience member as the Cleveland Center controller and edited it into the movie in the split screen. They picked my dad out of the crowd to do it - it was a good laugh at the time. Great picture!

  • @Demille40 I saw this in the theater as a kid! I was terrified and relieved at the same time! It's still a great movie!

  • @Demille40

It was quality. They put a lot of resources behind it, you could tell.

  • My guess is that this would be a class III approach?

  • yes, 707 and the DC 8 but jumbo jets were just entering service in 1970, esp 747. Very realistic flight scenes with real FAA Centers, jargon.. ect. Great film..

  • terrific scene ..this a great way to see how the 707 era was

  • Great cast and great perfomances. Helen Hayes won an Oscar for this.

  • Great scene from this film. Thx for the upload.
