Hi there! If I crash my car, I take it to the repair shop to get it fixed. It's all I know. Now I wonder, who has to fix this one if it crashes? You'll have to build it from scratch? Someone familiar with the process?
@kraudio7 If you crash the car, you would take it to a normal repair shop used to working on fiberglass, like a Corvette or Viper, they would call us for a replacement panel if needed. This is a production car, they will be parts available and body panels for repairs.
@BaileyBlade Hi! Thank you very much for the reply! I'm not familiar at all with fiber glass parts nor car repair, wich made me curious because I tought reparing metal parts would be easier than a fiberglass whole body! Also, my bad on not knowing it is a production car, tought it was a standalone project. Thanks again for the insight!
Hey dude, I'm saving up to do a similar thing, except only building three vehicles. I'm in Australia and was wondering all the tools you used and what are your recommendations. I'm nuts about drifting but can't afford a R34 kitted etc. Plus their done to death.
Chassis frame I was going to MIG weld tube steel, I've bought a 61 chrysler sedan and am changing the design so the cars kind of have a classic type look.
i love how the front of the car looks... but its just feel like your trying to fin a modern front car on a c3 corvette sides.. i dunno.. anyone else see that?
When I first saw the way the headlight cutouts were turning out I thought it looked like you were going to use the lights from the S15 Silvia, but then I saw these cutouts were not nearly long or low enough for those lights.
gentlemen, keep it up. the makers of ferrari, lotus, and other greats found thier roots hand building cars one at a time. whether that is your goal or not, the fact that you share that with them is awesome. will there be a custom drivetrain as well?
Thanks for the comment and yes its our goal to develop a company based on our designs and ideas. As for custom drivetrain, we will be using some standard components, but suspension and chassis is all custom designed.
hello, i was wondering what it was that you put on at 1:55. I am working on a car of my own that is custom. it will look kind of like a ferrari and lamborghini mix. i have learned so many things just watching your videos. thanks! if you would like to check out my first car i made, you can type in "BITV electric car" in the youtube search
The material is a short hair fiberglass mix body filler. I use in on areas that need extra strength. It sands well and is less prone to cracking. This is short hair and long hair. I like the short better as its easier and smoother to work with. The long hair is very strong and takes forever to sand.
Hey guys great look to the car it looks to be coming along nicely. I myself am in the process of making my own designed car.Nothing in in form though. Just in on paper.I love the headlight design and front end look, but was suprised as that it seems to be a small car like a miata is that its cab area it looks to me to be that but I could be wrong. But never the less cant wait to seee a new vid on this car just to see how far you all have gotten now.Keep it up it will turn ppls heads..
Thanks for the comments yeah is a smaller car than most think but we are designing it for tall people as I am 64 myself and want to make sure that others my size or taller will be able to enjoy the car. The side doors are custom but the glass and front windshield are from a Miata.
hey your videos have been really insiring to me, and i was wondering if you or anyone else on here can give me some tips, im just about to start building a whole new back end of my car using fiberglass, is there any short cuts i can take or do to ensure a very strong finish? please help me as im knew to this
Yeah im in the middle of it right now, well actually in the middle of the mock up side vent video. Amazing car man, truly outstanding, have you thought about what engine you would like in it? maybe a tiger 1.6 to keep it light or a flat 6 for the power?
Yeah we already have our engine selected its a Ford 5.4L Supercharged V8, same thats in the Ford GT. The cars weight will be around 2600 pounds to 2800 pounds. Pretty lightweight with a 750HP engine.
Very nice, the acceleration should be fantastic. I hope you dont turn into a boy racer lol :-P How much is insurence for a hand made, custom car? cheap, reasonable or expensive?
Insurance depends on how much you drive it a year. Its somewhat different for specialty cars but it can still be expensive. I am not sure of actual costs though as it depends on state, driving record, price of vehicle.
I hope so too My goal is not to just build a great dream car but to also encourage others that they can design and build their own car. Keep your dreams alive and dont wait till you have the money. Once you start something youre a passionate about the money will follow.
Great job man looks good so far! I think that if you blend or continue that edge from the corner of the headlight at the fender back in a taper further down the fender a bit int nothing it would help the look and aerodynamics. What do I know though just my thought guys. Again great job! I just stombled on the project tonight. Did you use solid works or what software did you use to create the shape in?
Used CAD and paper. With a simple jig saw sounds crude I know. But used a special method to keep everything symmetrical. I think I explain more in the first video.
Hi Jack, just wanted to let you know I will be out in the morning on Friday. I have my Sons graduation to go to. Let me know if you need me in the morning for anything.
great video. what camera are you using for the timelapse?
great work on the eye sculpting. just plaster it on and fix it with bondo and sanding :) what were the two pastes you used? and how long did you wait between each?
really helps with the headlights. still an awful paintjob though :)
Hey Dan, The Camera is Panasonic HD camera, cant remember the model but its a higher end miniDV cam. I use a software to do the time-lapse and actually record everything in real time. The fillers were light weight body filler, and short strand fiberglass body filler. The wait time varied but usually 15 to 30 minutes. I tend to mix it hot too. still have about 1000 hours to go before we see paint LOL
looks like a viper

Does a custom car have to get registered to have a VIN?
WShowduh 2 years ago
Yeah, it has to be given a VIN by the State. The process is a pain and its different in every state.
BaileyBlade 2 years ago
Man this car is gonna look great ! Hope it gets same sick look like the new Lexus testet on the last Top Gear. To bad its WAY way WAY overpriced :/
Love the lights, gonna try and make some for my porsche 944 this summer with fiberglass and LED/Projector.
