  • "No tears, no flowers that my hands deserve

No cross with a name that the corpse requires."

    WOW

  • @gvancleef2008

    I meant to include at 5:09 :)

  • Stunning! Very nice!

  • her diction, above all reading the letter, is very bad and the singing has not colours. not a good violetta.

  • Hauntingly beautiful.

  • I love her, great interpretation

  • When she says... ah della traviata... is like re making a masterpiece, like be born whithin it

  • If she's not God, she's the closest thing to God.

  • If God could sing, this is how he'd sound!! She has the best voice ever. It's like listening to velvet.

  • She is very good by today standards. Don't compare her with old legendary divas.

  • Truly beautiful!

  • God bless Italy!

  • @piruttino why Italy? :)

  • @norwegiangrieg because it's an Italian opera...

  • @piruttino hahaha right :P

  • che lettera terrificante!

  • AWESOME representation...

  • i normally don't like her, but this is AMAZING

  • .... zum Weinen schön ...

  • è proprio eccellente

  • absouloutly beautifel and one of the most heartbreaking arias i have ever heard, i was watching this on cnbc and sunday night and the soprano seemed moved by what she had done as she had just died and she seemed moved by what had happened

  • 5.56 BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  • .I love this perfomrance because it is true to the feelings expressed in the music. What a contrast to her performance in Lucia last year, where she seemed almost to be sleepwalking through the opera.

  • cette traviata est vraiment magnifique !!!

  • outstanding performance!

  • Great expression, beautiful voice, rich in obertones!

Mon prefere! Et Addio del passato...mon air prefere!!!

  • 6 mitica anna!

  • please stop discussing which soprano is the best. That's not what music is about. Music is about something much much deeper. Especially opera goes very deep. It's really not good and not cool to sit and discuss best actresses and best singers here on youtube. All of these singers have different interpretations so enjoy the variations because that's what music is about - searching inside yourself and feel the music that goes thorugh your ears!

  • @kristinavali Best comment on youtube video ever.

  • @kristinavali Thank you I couldn't have said it better myself - everyone enjoy the music :)

  • She's not that bad, but this version has the worst Giorgio Germont ever.

  • She's not only a great actor, but an excellent singer

  • imho I believe that such celebrities as Masteroftheopera, Leonora, henry et al must give to Netrebko some lessons. Then maybe she will rise to their level ai once.

  • The best Violetta I've seen. There are great sopranos who can sing this aria well, but she's also a perfect match visually. Thanks for sharing the video )

  • @svoikosh You mean she's smokin hot. Yes, I quite agree.

  • @svoikosh : you haven't seen many then, or you have been very unlucky !!!!

  • Anna is our treasure. Unfortunately she is a rare guest in Russia. We will have her in Moscow on 23rd of March, but ticket price is too high - about 1000 USd per each, and they are all bought. It came into my mind that i can buy an airticket to NY, book hotel for one night and by 200 USd ticket and enjoy her in Met and even save money. Life is unfair...

  • @mejoles 1000 dollars?

  • Comment removed

  • @mejoles Wouldn't it be cheaper to see her in Europe?

  • not bad,but gheorghiu is much better!

  • @MastersoftheOpera

why didn't someone like ur comment so much as to hide it????

You know, Gheorghiu and Anna N. are my favourite modern Violettas ever, both are good performers!! But I like Gheorghiu better too... Maybe just because I'm already used to her version (1994).

  • @henry10011966 not bad? why don't you sing it yourself? Do you have any idea of the level of difficulty of this aria?

  • @violetavalery

i can't sing it, but i know several sopranos wich could sing this aria better then anna!

for example: gheorghiu.i cannot understand the hype about netrebko, she is a very good singer but not the one and only soprano.a diana damrau, natalie dessay and some others are so good as netrebko and in some roles better then anna!

  • @henry10011966 No please Gheorghiu no. There are a lot of singers who can sing it better than Netrebko but not Gheorghiu

  • Very nostalgic. Thanks!

  • This is simply an amazing piece of music. I espicially love from 3:25-4:10

  • She's a fab actress. One of a kind.

  • solemn

  • It's amazing! Beautiful music, with great actress!

  • i don't know that part ! And actually i watched it > Tv.

  • She has really terrible Italian pronunciation

  • hat mich zu Tränen gerührt....tremendous!

  • Ivanova is better in belcanto but in this piece she cannot really convince me.

  • Please, see soprano Petya Ivanova in this aria!

  • Agree with mondayblues5: way too forceful! and the breathing breaks the flow

  • She may not be THE BEST, but man, she can sing a hell of a lot better than most people I know lol

  • She looks like if she was high rather than like a dying person

  • she does not look like a dying person...

  • lei è bellissima!

  • Lei ERA bellissima, adesso è tutta grassa

  • Her acting is inspired. She should sound 'pale' she's dying for God's sake!!

  • She should lower her larynx so as not to sound pale and sing with overtones.

  • I have always been attracted by beautiful music but this version of La Traviata doesn't attract me.

  • For what reason?

  • i agree hermioney2k.

  • This ain't a pleasure. She sounds pale the whole time.

  • whoops, sorry, Anna, not Angela (though I like Angela, too !)

  • I love an opulent traditional staging, but when contemporary staging and direction truly serves the music and the libretto (as is also the case with Robert Wilson's Parsifal) I am won over completely - especially here w/ opera's premier duo !

Brava Angela ! Bravo Rolando !

  • This is not Angela.

  • You still have the spiritual status of a HOMO ERECTUS!

Come in 50,000 years once more again APEMAN!

  • hopefully fast but now i'm zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Just horrible is your knowledge of opera.

You do not know from what you speak and should only find out before you make such a silly comment.

  • Comment removed

  • she did not make the high note at the end of the aria before the iteration. just terrible.

  • Everything is terrible. She has no depth, no variety of tones, very poor enunciation of the lyrics and no precise control of dynamics.

  • still with the variety of tones???You are amzing, now i don't need to read your comments, you say allways the same things.IF smth doesen't goes perfect can be understandable but to say everything is terrible....cmon that is not normal at all.

  • For me, everything sounds terrible in the sense of Opera. It sounds great for Popera with a bad enunciaiton.

  • oops, I gave you the thumbs down by mistake...my apologies..I agree with you :)

  • don't worry, i should have make clear that it was an answer to thugman30 who besides saying stupid things says allways the same.

  • hopefully fast

  • This bores me to death...

  • agree :-) einfach wunderschön

  • Nertebko haters do not care about the quality of her performances. They trash everything of hers under condition of anonymity. The good thing is that everyone already knows their names (thrugman30, esradesso etc) and the longer they do that the more pathetic they look. Anna is going GREAT and her voice has doubled in the last couple of years. So, respond to their insulting comments, when you can, and haters would not feel in a safe heaven (like Taliban before 2001).

  • This isn't a proper Verdi. She's too over rated.

  • Very well sung and i like the production, very simple but effective.Such a sad aria...i love La Traviata...Verdi was a genius!

  • That explains, her speaking voice wears a nose clip too.

  • Wow. just wow.

  • I prefer Callas.

  • Who cares!

  • I think she sings wonderful, but- and that's the poor meaning of an opera lover- I prefer Angela!

  • her voice is too small here

  • donny558 , Anna is great in this aria, she does it wonderfully! ! If you do not get this I'll explain - Violetta is dying here, so it is wrong to sing at fulll voice here. Understand?

  • I completely agree, she's acting as well as singing and the vibrato and slight weakness is a strength to her version as opposed to a weakness. She does this aria wonderfully and credibly.

  • I have looked at 10 of these and Netrebko's acting and artistry is still the outstanding performance.

  • These singer really have to be the best physical health to sing the death arias. I love how that clock was broken showing how her time has run out gotta love the classics being redone :)

  • dear folk, check also the Youtube's clip of this aria performed by Petya Ivanova at Maribor National Opera.

  • i love this play

    especially this song

she is incredible by the way

  • I think she is a fab actor.

  • I will enjoy her voice in th Opera House in San Francisco next June and can't wait. Such a beautiful voice.

  • i love this version

  • AND she is beautiful!

  • it's one of the best violetta in traviata modern... she is magnific, superb voice, excellent acting... when i look traviata in DVD with anna netrebko, i cry everytime at this passage...

  • me too :)

  • She sings this part so beautifull! I have been to la traviata six times, but this own is the best! The man who is singing also, has also a great voice1

  • Absolutely beautiful. I <3 Netrebko. She is so wonderful!

  • I think this version of la traviata is wonderful. It's going to be an historical performance. I found the simple decore very beautiful. I don't understand why people are conservative about this.

  • Que bonito!!!

  • her beautiful voice makes me cry!!!

  • Very good job! But Anna, you have to improve your italian... If you want I can teach you...

  • VIOLETTA HAS TUBERCULOSIS in La Traviata. If she gasps for breath, it adds to the drama. She is acting the part this time. Take a look at 00:54.

  • VIOLETTA HAS TUBERCULOSIS in La Traviata. If she gasps for breath, it adds to the drama. She is acting the part this time. Take a look at 00:54

  • I'm not an expert, but she seems to be gasping for breath a lot... and very loudly...

  • She does a good acting... and she is not soooo bad, my goodness.

  • It called acting, she has to gasps for aire! beaucause she has tuberculosis! It would look weird if she could sing while having no air...wouldn't it??

  • 1. "ppp" doesn't mean "as loud as you can possibly sing." Yes, this applies even if it's a high A.

    2. Don't breathe in the middle of a slur. If you don't have the breath control for this, you probably shouldn't be singing Verdi at all.

    3. Don't smile at the end of the saddest aria in this opera, even if you are already anticipating your obligatory "brava" from lecherous men.

    4. This director still needs to be shot.

    =)

  • Well, she looks fantastic and she sounds very decent. The problem is that people expect her to sound as good as she looks... and THAT would be off the charts in the opera world.

I do agree with your comments 2 and 4. Visually it is stunning, but is this La Traviata?

  • Anna Moffo. Look her up. Visually stunning AND probably sang the best Violetta ever.

  • Give it up already. Art is supposed to be about enjoyment not cricism. If you don't like her, don't listen to her, don't buy her albums.

  • At least she is a believable Violetta - a woman, who men would PAY to sleep with. No man would pay to sleep with ladies who look like Callas, Caballe, Sutherland and company -They do sound damn good though. At the end of the day, it's a toss up. If you don't like her, don't listen to her.

  • Kennedy would have paid to sleep with Callas...

  • Kennedy would have slept with the kitchen sink
