Lots of big artists lip sync at major functions to prevent unexpected mess ups. Even A. R. Rahman did it during the live performance of Ma Tujhe Salaam when it was first performed at the 50th anniversary of Independence. Michael Jackson did it too in many of his shows. Here it looks like she has lip synced on this performance but I think it's doubtless that it is indeed her voice on the track. It does kill the thrill of a live performance though.

There are many confident singers who sing it live on stage without fear. Singer of her caliber should always sing live to prevent spoiling her image if for nothing else.

Shreya Ghosal is a seasoned live performer who normally shouldn't have a problem with performing live. There could be other reasons also, if the singer happens to have a throat infection/bad throat or some other problem on that particular day. No option but to lip sync in such a situation.

She is my favorite singer......But while singing this song of Tagore she distorted the notation/ the norm of singing 'Rabindra Sangeet' - after all killing the sole of the song no doubt.....

That is her problem. She is an excellent and great singer, but I think she is really afraid of stage singing. I have noticed that she does lip syncing on most of her stage shows.
Ha ha. First, I am a man so I can't probably be jealous of a girl's voice. Second, I find her voice the sweetest in the world - and just love her absolutely so there is no chance of jealousy. But that does not make me blind. :) I know if she tries, she will never fail in singing on stage with equal sweetness, softness and excellence - but she is still afraid and does lip sync. Being one of her big fans, it disappoints me.

It's not a very uncommon thing to modify the singing pattern of a particular song. Ok the composer composes his song in his pattern. Not necessarily it will appeal all. Shreya has not sung this song with a jazz music which some people will have an objection to. She has sung it very nicely in Eastern India pattern of muzic. The people who have raised objections are "Community Fanatics". I suggest them to go to Shantiniketan to listen Rabindra Sangeet. Not in public performances or youtube.

@bengalimike, chill dude..... I havn't said dat the srrangement is poor. It's not my statement either dat Shreya Ghoshal has let down the standards of Bangla singers. All I wanted 2say z dat this song has bn sung terribly by her. And it's a real pity if u can't spot out how much faulty her bengali pronounciation is. Even Kavita Krisnamurthy Subrahmanyam pronounces Bangla better than her (I'm talking of this song in particular, not any other song, eg. Antaheen or Autograph songs, which r fab.)

OMG (O Maa Go) - Is this Rabindra Sangeet ? Shreya is lucky, Rabindranath Tagor is not alive. May be this is a good experimental presentation but I can not agree this as nice rabindra sangeet as presented by Shreya. Rabindra Sangeet should be sung following the guideline provided by Tagor himself. Shreya is pretty, She has very nice trained voice and I like her most of the songs. But I am sorry, I can not praise this as nice Rabindra Sangeet.

He was indeed a great and complete artist (not only singer). Those who are comparing Shreya with Lataji - I have nothing to tell about them. Taste differs man to man. In my consideration Shreya is a very good singer and still she has much much to learn. She is still young and has long long way ahead.

Absolutely. She CAN lip-sync and that won't be wrong, cuz she is of that stature. Maybe the acoustics wouldn't be good enough if she sang it live..

@shadab2341 i am sorry, this song was written by Rabindranath Tagore not Kazi Nazrul Islam. I agree with you that Nazrul's lyrics are uncomparable, unique. Also his compositions are rather better than Rabindra sangeet in my consideration. I am worried such comment may start unwanted arguments. I am sorry, i just expressed my judgement.

@bengalimike, chill dude..... I havn't said dat the srrangement is poor. It's not my statement either dat Shreya Ghoshal has let down the standards of Bangla singers. All I wanted 2say z dat this song has bn sung terribly by her. And it's a real pity if u can't spot out how much faulty her bengali pronounciation is. Even Kavita Krisnamurthy Subrahmanyam pronounces Bangla better than her (I'm talking of this song in particular, not any other song, eg. Antaheen or Autograph songs, which r fab.)

This is defintely a strange arrangement by the musicians but everyone's been experimenting with the Rabindra sangeet these dayz.. Shreya Jee has uplifted the standards of Bangla singers in recent times.

well shreya deserves a round-out applause for her brilliant performance in this song, i am not going into the debate whether or not it has been sung by lip-syncing, it is she after all who has sung it :) but while surfing through the comments a specific comment has caused me considerable pain, given the fact that the author thinks Indians are ashamed of their language, which we are absolutely not.. i am sure it has been a misunderstanding, but for the record, the allegation made is false.

She has a nice voice and sings wonderfully. However, the song has a statement, a bold statement which can be aptly said by a single word "josh". That emotion is missing in this song. And it becomes meaningless if you lose the energy, it's not just a sweet voice that works, unfortunately ...

OMG (O Maa Go) - Is this Rabindra Sangeet ? Shreya is lucky, Rabindranath Tagor is not alive. May be this is a good experimental presentation but I can not agree this as nice rabindra sangeet as presented by Shreya. Rabindra Sangeet should be sung following the guideline provided by Tagor himself. Shreya is pretty, She has very nice trained voice and I like her most of the songs. But I am sorry, I can not praise this as nice Rabindra Sangeet.

@TheKalimata If you allow me to comment - I will only say, Kishorda version is unique. He knew the mood of Rabindra Sangeet as well as the meaning, feelings and mood of this song. He was indeed a great and complete artist (not only singer). Those who are comparing Shreya with Lataji - I have nothing to tell about them. Taste differs man to man. In my consideration Shreya is a very good singer and still she has much much to learn. She is still young and has long long way ahead.
