I've been searching for this for years. I taped it off PBS when it first aired - when i was a kid. Totally lost the tape. What a great documentary it was! Made me want to major in jazz studies. I memorized both vern's and louis' solos. Then switched to piano, lol.
If you can ever upload more from this, i for one would watch--a LOT.
i wish some of the music bum drummers were i live in markethill would watch this , and see a real lesson in drummer,,,all we have is bang bang drummers,,,,thanks louis bellson.. god bless you always,,,,,r , i, p..
Please change the name. It's The NIU Jazz Ensemble, not U of I. It would also be nice if you could convert it from your VCR, rather than sticking a camera in front of the T.V.!
Yeah that's Vern Spevak!!!! Hahaha my teacher!!!!! Man Louie is the man... He's probably up there in heaven having a drum battle with God!! :DDDDDD Love that guy with all my heart...
Louie was the greatest, kindest person I have ever known. We have truly lost a very beautiful person. Someone who knew the true meaning of love your fellow man.
Louie breathed love in everything that he did, spreading good feelings to all that came near him.
If I had the power to make him a saint, I would.
The world is a lot darker with his passing....A void that will never be filled.
Louie I truly Love You ...will miss you till my dying day.
Louie's death is particularly sad for me because buddy and louie were MY superheros when I was a kid, has anyone come close to replacing them? no, not as far as I'm concerned.
I remember seeing this as a young drummer. I think I was about 12 when it came on TV. Yep it was broadcast back then. Anyone know what happened to this kid?
I can't believe the luck here...I mean someone was throwing this out I just happened to find it, of course the tape looks better than this does, I love the energy on this, sounds fresh and swinging not over rehearsed at all....beautiful! there is something about this era, it seems music was still breathing or something..know what i mean?
