i had the pleasure of hanging out and skating with these cats in fullerton ca. back in the 70's and smoked some pot with them, they where pretty cool people as far as i remember.
Not Alva, not Tony, not Mullen or someone else is the #1... Everyone who brings the skateboard in the minds of those ppl outside have to be on the top.
I've got an alvaboard from 1977 with original everything. tracker trucks, kryptonics whells ect. How much would you guess it's worth? It's in preatty good condition.
kinda sucks how tony alva doesn't have a name like tony hawk. alva has done more for skating then any other skater in the world, but his name rarely gets mentioned.
@SensiRootsBoy yeah well now what about jay adams. he was no attention whore and no one knows him. im not trying to offend tony alve but thats how it is
thanks guitarplayer I am going to wear as many pads as i can fit over my elbows and knees. Too bad i can only fit on one helmet at a time hahaha. I still have my red kryps and german speed bearings. the children on my street just cant believe how fast quiet and sticky those wheels are. i am try to get them to carve turns but they are afraid of leaning on the ride its kind of funny. its like surfing i tell them, it falls on deaf ears...oh well. they just watch the "old man".
@aca319ca Nice... Careful on the old knees lol! I love this documentary, I was one of these kids and all of these dudes look like my friends:-) I was in the north bay area but we still had the 70's drought and dry swimming pools... Man those 1st boards were brutal, I was a constant scab!
I went snowboarding last year, still in pretty good shape. But I did a faceplant doing about 25mph and punched myself in the chest when I slammed down, it hurt for weeks:-p
Yep I remember all of you guys! All of my friends have bad knees from those early years of skateboarding and now all pushing 50 years old. This documentary brings back a lot of awesome times and memories, the music choices were great! I love that part where dudes are dropping into the pool just as Ted Nugent starts, fucking stellar!
tony alva i respect him and all but he did alot of wrong for fame and wealth he lost the cause to skate but i still hold him and all the other z-boyz still in VERY HIGH REGARD long live dogtown
Tony and his family sill here in an diego , sorry to hear about one of your other doc vids got cut off sound due to a song confict. Great music in this movie , I watched all thos guys take over some of some pools remember everything like it was yesterday
Tony Alva is a fucking dickhead in the early 90's one of his riders funded by alva started Public Skates, problem is my buddy already had public skates and he had it copyrighted but this guy was super-religious and didnt do anything about,I guess because of his religion??And I know he stole it cause we hads a video ata a skating conference(ppl showing new shit) and Alva watched our public video askin ?'sand talked to the owner. A few months later I open thrasher there is public but a alva sk8ter
@TheRalphus666 I was like sue that mother fucker and he wouldnt. So asshole of the early 90='s was easily Tony Alva fucking thief her just put the ownership under his one of his skaters so if a lawsuit happened he wouldnt get sued his rider was.He WAS a asshole ,IS a asshole, and ALWAYS will be an asshole a big fuck you for doing that to a real stand up guy(the Original owner).Your a conceited piece of shit and nobody does bert revert's anymore you fuckin tool and thief
If Dogtown had been just a skateboarding movie I would have snuffed it after 10 minutes. What kept my attention was that the Z boys started a revolution. So what qualified them? Interesting to hear the originals speak of Tony Alva with a deep sense of knowing. Conversely latter generation Tony Hawk and Steve Caballero could well have been reading cue cards for all the significance they gave him. It was a bit like listening to a company rep.. but that's OK company reps don't start revolutions.
i like how all the other guys talk about each other behind their backs and say, "oh dude jay was the best hes was way beyond us"..." tonys time and balance were just so superior"
Although skating and surfing are so extreme today, take me back to this era. I love watching Jay Adams and Tony Alva skate pools, As for surfing, I would rather watch Tom Curren or Shaun Tomson carving J Bay.
1:26 - 1:33 was the best way to describe him... people who call him a douchebag/tool, I get what u mean, but he changed as he matured... & even if he didnt change, dont judge people as it's wrong when people judge you as well...
after watching the lords of dogtown film it kinda puts tony in a bad light. but without a question of a doubt fair play to each of them, they changed skateboarding forever
@Cotahere Picked up skating in 84 as a 14-year old. First deck I had was a neon pink alva fish tail... Brian told me not to tell Tony this..... Alva was the man for me until I moved to surfing a few years later. Always held him in high regards. A classmate of mine was a friend of Tony's and I was able to spend a couple hours with him.... while filming in Imperial Beach for Lords of Dogtown. One of those times that you meet a legend and he's just a cool dude. Good times.
@AICfreak911 Well first off I think the movie was just OK, I say this because if you compare it to the Sony Pictures documentary it pales in comparison and the guy who did play Tony Alva did a good job and some pics of tony and shia look so alike, cud just be me tho
@PizzaHero92 ITS UP TO THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE IT..... TO TAKE CARE OF IT AND KEEP IT ALIVE. THEN AGAIN SKATEBOARDING AT ITS BEST MIGHT NOT BE MEANT FOR MAINSTREAM.......SURFERS AND SKATERS, BY NATURE ARENT, "MAINSTREAM PEOPLE"
read the title, this is tony alva, and sid wasnt that kids real name, they just used that name in the movie, and "sid" died from brain cancer when he was young
Sid was based on a real person but was not the same as in the lords of dogtown.
He was a boy that lived in the rich part of LA that had a pool. And he loved watching them skate and that, so he invited them all up to his pool when he was ill.
The dogbowl was a 10 minute busride for me in santa monica. sid wasn't his real name(privacy purposes) but the story about him in lords of dogtown is accurate....he begged his dad for months to drain the pool so they could skate......it was an important part of the legacy, and the story needed to be told. when all is said and done from the fame and fortune, its all about the friendship.
You think the Mexicans you see in the USA look anything like the Mexicans living in Mexico hell no.Go to Monterrey or Guadalajara,Sinaloa nothing but White Looking Mexicans.
