  • hahaha!!! Malaria poped up in the beging of this clip! i love them!! i love this too...

  • wwwslicingupeyeballs.com20100615modernenglishreuniontourdatesoriginallineup

  • love it...brings back memories of being a big 4AD fan when I was 18/19!

  • ...this is not the album version!...

  • how was this song not a hit. ITS SO AWESOME!!

  • This CD is a masterpiece.... so many good songs on it. Mod Eng are one of the 80's best bands up there with Cure, Echo, New Order, etc....

  • MTV went on air August 1st , 1981 , I was 5 yrs old then, mom got cable installed near the end of that year around Christmas and I remember watching videos like this while other kids my age were watching cartoons, the music era back then was entirely different than today, that early 80s new wave sound was at that time "NEW" just as the label of that time implied, I've always thought how great it would've been had today's computers and internet existed back then when the music was so original

  • BlackSkyThunder There were ALOT of masterpeices written during the 80's that are STILL unknown today amongst most people. Like every era and genre the true masterpeices are largely ignored while the pablum and mass produced cookie cutter crud gets all the attention. Even through all that I'm still gratefull that I was a teenager in the 80's. Check out Siouxie and the Banshees sometimes, especially the song Forever.

  • Modern English was a great band. video is typical 80s corporate look. But the band has a nice haunting sound to it

  • @coptersoisoi Still are they did a North American tour last year with the original line-up :O))

    Go Robbie

  • I agree

  • Best version.

  • wow i never even imagines there was a video for this! too bad its such an edited version of the song.

  • ohh to live in the 80's

  • I want the Brits back, American music sucks!

  • I just love this Band!!!

  • Watching all this I feel very bad for not have lived the 80's nightlife( I was born in the 81'), could not imagine how happy I would have been if I had listened this track while I was just at my table looking to nothing, a music that invades you in every moment and makes you introspective at least for a moment while you are hearing some minute or just a second in a total apotheosis.

  • @BlackSkyThunder I was born in 1970.There were times where it sucked too but not too much.Another genius of that time that still doesn't get the credit that he deserves is none other than Robert Smith (The Cure).

  • @BlackSkyThunder Another suggestion to you and everyone else reading this. Go check out The Cure-Underneath The Stars (Live 2008) by curemsg.

  • ¿Quien puede enviarme esta canción em MP3?

  • Great Song!! First time I heard this was on KQAK in San Fran..many many many years ago. There are a couple of different versions of this song.

  • Please can someone tell me the name of the band member with the pale white/blond hair? I love his hair!!!!

  • I still love this band - the real music fans know them - everybody should hear this and "Life in the Gladhouse". They were GREAT live - as good as in the studio! thanks for posting

  • Holy Crap. 1986 just came rushing back to me with a vengeance.

These guys were one of the best bands of the era imo.

  • In truth, this band is very talented, and it's a shame they don't receive the recognition they deserve. It's Aug. 2009, and I still rock 80's fashion and music.

  • Agreed

  • @eromtihw Death to the 5 that do not like this song

  • @eromtihw

  • Even my children know good music(80's) when they hear it.

  • Don't mean to brag but we have clubs in LA that play this and many obscure 80's tracks. It's all about California. Thank you.

  • @psychocandychain All thanks to the original KROQ! I listened to that station nonstop all thru the early 80's.

  • @psychocandychain Where, please tell me where?? I have not been to a good obscure 80's club in a long, long time. Everyone seems to play electro and the same setlist for new/darkwave music.

  • Sooo glad I was around when new wave first hit radio, MTV and the local clubs...

  • That whole album was pretty good but it got lost when I'll Melt With You got big. After The snow That's the name of the album.

  • Thanks for posting this song, but "80s song from electronic band " is all you can say? :)

  • Does anyone know where these buildings are at in this video?

  • Brilliant! One of the best forgotten songs of the 80´s! This song clearly reflects the meaning of the 80´s: melodic, mysterious, elegant, paranoid, bizarre... a 5 star song! i´m from Spain and i can say that very very few people remember this song, Is it the same in England??

  • Not to be mean but that person in the white hair that's playing the guitar is that a chick or a guy?

  • That would be a guy.

And don't worry, most people were just as confused about it as you were.

It was a trend for the early part of the 1980s to die your hair platinum, tease it out into a huge bouffant wave and wear candy-colored suits. For other examples of this (all of them male) see the early videos of Duran Duran, Japan, Kajagoogoo and Siouxsie and the Banshees.

And for a rare female example, check out Thompson Twins.

  • whoops! of course I meant to say "dye", not "die"

-- although in retrospect, "die" may have been the more appropriate word because all of that bleaching and teasing and gluing really ruined your hair!

Great song -- my favorite from "After the Snow" (which s one of my all-time favorite albums also).

  • great song

  • i like this song, well along with "Swans On Glass" from Mesh & Lace!

  • Que buen tema que pena que no este completo lo malo es que estos videos son escasos de encontrar ojala subieran mas de este tipo de musica NW 80's y 90'S Caletas

  • Great opener of a fantastic 80's album "after the snow".

  • wow that's a awesome song.....

  • Damn!!! What a Great Song!!!

  • great music from a brilliant band. so glad I saw them play in Boston...

  • this tune & After the Snow are my fave Modern English songs. I still have the souvenir t-shirt I bought when I saw them play Boston.

  • love it........

  • I know most people think "I'll Melt With You" is the best Modern English song, but I think "Someone's Calling" is the best song by them.

  • Awesome! Just Awesome!!!

  • Awesome Tune !

  • electronica should restart from here... early 80s!

  • Awesome song! This song reflects the spirit of the 80´s, elegant, mysterious and fascinating... I can see me hearing this song while Chucky was on Cinema

  • Was that a Malaria! video in the first shot? It looks like the video for "You You"

ANYWAY, love this song, and this album. Sadly, my cassette player ate mine up :[ Thank God for Youtube and the internet.

  • one of the best groups in the 80's

  • this song was a huge hit in the 80, it was even better in the reunion concert in 2007.....how come their are no live videos of probobly the most popular bands in the 80s, some one needs to upload a video of modern english live!

  • My favorite song by Modern English. :D

  • This is a pretty good song. I think that "I'll melt with you" was playeed out back then.

  • good song..

  • this is such a good song!

  • I still have the 12 inch of this song!

    Brill

  • And I've still got a 12 inch.

  • whos the man with the black hair and red lipstick on, first thing you see???

  • That's a man?Bloody hell,I better be more careful in future.

  • great

  • I like all these blokes, apart from the "singer". He was a right cunt. Richard Brown was a really good bloke.

  • Totally agree. Dick was a top bloke and a great solid drummer.

  • I met these guys at about this time. They scared me. Live they sounded like being in an aircrash. Nothing at all like the slick production here. Their first three albums are all different and all great.

  • one of those bands/albums that was incredible....and ignored except for a hit single.

same fate as the psychedelic furs.

  • excelent song i like verymuch

  • Last I read, Gary McDowell was in Thailand, tending a restaurant or bar or something.

  • This song catchs the essence of the mysterious 80´s. Elegant, dark and deep.I can´t understand why this song is so unkown. A masterpiece!!!

  • @BlackSkyThunder Es cierto esta canción es típica 80 y solo unos pocos la apreciamos.

  • After the Snow is a great album, with excellent 80s musicanship. I especially liked the tracks, Face Of Wood and Tables Turning, but the whole album is great.

  • get hold of Gathering Dust - it'll blow you away.

  • agreed. for some reason, i find that the beeping at the beginning to be really eerie sounding. it's such a sweet song.

  • I agree. After the Snow is probably one of the best new wave albums ever. The album version of this song is much better than this one though.

  • like the song

  • this is a fantastic song, quite haunting when you just listen to the album version.

  • electronic band? what is he talking about?

  • this was played on mtv in the summer of 1983

  • Thanks for posting this great song!

  • I had "after the snow" years ago (cassette form I think the dog ate) The whole album was great including this song which kicked it off!!! Thanks for the posting.

  • saw them in Swindon 198? danced my as off ,1 of the best gigs ever.

  • Great song! Great band! Thanks for posting!
