The reason you see all this violence can be derived from a true understanding of the Bible. The reason is because God wants to build a relationship based upon self will to enter that relationship. In order for this to happen there must be a balance of "good' and "bad" things happening.

Now you may view this as typically "evil" but i'll explain it this way.

If everything was good and nothing bad happened then giving yourself to God would be too (in layman's terms) "easy". It requires no faith.
