  • jacqueline du pré was actually not playing a cello .... she was able to give her soul (and at least my soul) the materiality of a sound , incredibly true . What we hear is something you cannot contest , because it is not an interpretation , but simply the truth .

  • Awesome and beautiful !!! Thanks for the sharings !

  • y is evry1 sayin dey miss her u dont know her and plus no one wud listen to dis if dey dint hav to 4 skl

  • the recording is le crap but the cello tone color is legendary!!

  • One of the best melodies ive heard, i think.

  • Papa Hayden was truly blessed by unnatural talent. Jacqueline was sublime.

  • This is a breathtakingly beautiful movement and a marvellous performance. Just listen how the soloist enters the fray at 1:08 with the whole orchestra and the sound grows... a masterpiece!

Am I the only one that hears the typical Mozartian slow movement melancholy here? Haydn really was a genius.

  • thank you jacqueline! it is not always that someone shares such beauty.

  • Stupenda Jacquelin du Pre. Che tragedia che sia morta tanto giovane! Le sue registrazioni resteranno per sempre. Grazie infinite

  • she's amazing

  • Sadly missed- her musicwill live forever. Thank you Jacqueline. Thanks for the post

  • LarissaFMattos (Video 02 - n.1/JSBach Prelude)

  • fara cuvinte...

  • Simplement le meilleur violoncelle que j 'ai jamais entendu, une musicalité (j' ai presque envie de dire une sensualité) vraiment hors norme, incroyable, les mots me manquent ...

  • God Bless You Jacqueline..I Like You.

  • Quelle merveille!

  • IMHO, this particular Adagio piece by Haydn, matches (maybe surpasses) anything Mozart ever did (and Mozart's my musical "God").

  • j'ai le coeur brisé en positif! avec son violoncelle elle redonne la vie!!!!

    cc'est un amourqui retentit!!!!

  • she will forever be unsurpassable.

  • Beautifully performed! Brava! TY D.

  • It is unfortunate that criticism becomes the forte instead of simply enjoying a lovely piece of music!

  • I sooooo agree with you. Moreover, how easy is it for those who sit at home on youtube to criticise, probably having never really studied music!

  • I'm not fan of Haydn, but this movement is very sensitive, romantic, ... The cadenza actually has rhythm and sounds of country o western music .. Beautiful piece

  • @ANJUSEJO Because I remember the country genre took some of the structures of Haydn.

  • SI SOBRE TODO POR EL WESTERN QUE NO CONOZCO PERO NO CABE DUDA QUE TU SABES DE MUSICA CLASICA LO QUE YO SE DE LA ANTIMATERIAS

  • kanon wakeshima loves this song

    im hooked on it!!!!!

  • D I V I N A L!!!

  • I miss her.

  • @catharticartist1

    ME TOO...

  • it's so sweet.. Du Pre's personal sound is trasmitted through the bow...

  • This concerto movement moves me to tears time and time again!!

  • It's certainly my favorite movement of the concerto.

  • Hmm, interesting - I don't know enough genres to really voice a reliable view! It's perfectly good music in it's own right, but to my tastes I just prefer genres to stick to themselves really!

  • Well, I'm certainly going to get the complete du Pre set now! All those famous works on 17 CDs for about £20 (must be cos they're old) and all played by this indomitable artist! I'll be glad to have this version of this adagio too - the version I have has a really tasteless, Blues cadenza that doesn't tie in with the feel at all, and ruins it - thank goodness the rest of this recording is just as good, if not better, too!

  • @thelightisahead Are you referring to the blues cadenza on the Naxos recording? I can't remember the soloist, but I have that too and I hate it... obviously you can't go wrong with a du Pre boxset! But also I recommend Jian Wang's recording; sublime.

  • @HotRosin

    Yeah that's the one!

  • beautiful... so goo.. i love this song.

    peace.

  • my favorite part is 0:00 to 9:42

    that is so beautiful

  • Haha, well said!

  • What a breath takingly beautiful piece of music. Jacki proved once again she and the cello are one. Her style and interpetation are so deep and soul stirring.

  • And what an excellent rendition! Even better than the one I know and love from the Naxos Best of Haydn CD... and usually it's hard to find a version better than the one you're long used to! Which says a lot about the quality of performance here!

  • Imagine being Haydn, or any other master composer... waking up each day being the person who could write pieces like this... you don't get it all in one life :( but at least it's here for us to enjoy!

  • You can do whatever you want

  • Hehe, how I wish that could come true for me and my compositions!

  • Me encanta este concierto en general...^^

  • beautiful...

    rest in peace.

  • what a wonderful playing...she was such an outstanding musician

  • unbelievable...unbelievable!!

  • Her cello playing; this is what a heart sounds like when it sings.

  • ¡Menuda intérprete,ésta Jacqueline Duprè.!

  • soy de tu misma opinión. no toco el cello, pero al oirla siento como contiene su emoción o como le da rienda sueltas. es grandiosa. como puede expresar tanto.

  • yo yo ma doesnt have any emotion when he's playing. he just shows off when he plays. messes around with the music too much. wierd interpretations. i dont like him much.

  • as much as du pre is the greatest cellist to me, i don't think yo yo ma is as bad as you make him out to be. he has his merits too.

  • no emotion..?

    you're kidding right?

  • To my ears her playing is better than all the other cellists I've ever heard. Then again, maybe it's not better; I just like her style of playing.

  • Wow!! I'm a young cellist trying to learn this piece and Jaqueline du Pré just helped me take it to a whole new level.

  • Absolutely overwhelming music..thank for the video

  • Haydn is far to overlooked. He is just as great as Beethoven, Bach and so on, in my opinion. This music is very moving, and great passion.

  • Maravilloso... Eternamente bello.

  • It can be called perfect, perfect sound quality. She was holding a special cello that helped her to reach one of the highest. The aesthetic standard in mind is different from one to another, but in common in a gengeral basis. So is she likely to be popular among audience, who are easily to be infatuated with her graceful deep emotional performance.

    ...(to be continued)

  • ......(continue)...

No one can feel and tell what the composer felt at that very moment, but one can tranlate the comprehension of his own into the same, or a different form of art through a certain style of expression in emotion by instruments or other tools.

To be honest, I am more touched by the performance of Rostropovich, a complete development of the character of a cello.

  • Zatracenie w dźwiękach...

    wsłuchanie sie w swoje

    brzmienie muzyki...

    spokojna melodyka strun

    która oplata umysł

    niewidzialna nicią

    delikatność odejścia w nieznane

    Tym jest ta muzyka

  • Simple the best. Unforgettable and unique. There would never be one like Jackie.

  • I'm touched. I'm touched by her gift of music to the world, and I'm touched by her story. Enough said.

  • wow she's really darn good, her finger vibration makes me so tight

  • how graceful and elegant...

  • Jacq.

  • Jacqueline, forever my darling.

  • Stella bella.
