The rainbow sheep story is possibly an example of anti-PC gone mad. It's all well to be critical of the PC thing but please don't automatically assume that every story about "PC gone mad" circulating in the media is true. Some of these stories are invented and propagated by people who have an axe to grind with "the liberal left." In this case it would certainly seem so because it wasn't just rainbow sheep they were singing about but any kind of sheep: white, black, blue, oblong, etc.

@diffnature Let me be more specific (I ran out of characters in my previous post). They sang about black sheep, rainbow sheep, etc. not because they wanted to avoid singing about black sheep in particular but because the lyrics provide an opportunity to play with adjectives. It was intended as a language game, to encourage creativity in the children, at least according to one teacher who was interviewed. So they would sing and come up with new attributes for the sheep as they went along.

But I totally agree with what you are saying. My sister was telling me about teachers at school calling white boards "dry erase marker boards" and black boards "chalk boards" I think they still just call them black and white boards, even though apparently it's not pc.

I LOVE the drunken sailor song. I associate it with spinning around until I'm so dizzy I'm going to get sick and racing other people while singing that song. Now I'm a teenager and I don't touch alcohol, it's ridiculous that people have sticks up their arses like that.

They're white and black!' children have no concept of any problems between races or political correctness, so why make it a problem by trying to fix a simply nursery rhyme that never needed fixing? Totally agreed. Here in America the big thing is saying "African American" instead of black, but the only people who say it are white. All the black people I know just say black. The only black folks who use the term are on TV, lawyers and newscasters. It's ridiculous.

This was news from January 2009, two years ago.

Its important to remember that it's not 'Governemt' who start these ideas, it's just people who have been given money by the Government. If there is anyone to blame it's our retarded, wrap-everyone-in-cotton-wool society.

Bookstart, the government funded project that made this 'grumpy pirate' decision lost all government funding back in December.

So maybe the Government has done a good thing, eh?

Regarding the racism and PC, generally us Brits are a nation of people who only want the best for everyone... in my opinion, it's the media who are sensationalizing everything to the point where people have to be 'PC' for fear of retribution!
