hahaha this is so true. when i interviewed at UWSMPH it was on Halloween and there were med students dressed up as med school applicants. One had won 3 gold medals in the olympics and the other one had the nobel prize for curing cancer.

go to an osteopathic medical school...it is a more comprehensive education centered on primary care (no there are no quacks in those schools anymore that problem was taken care of long ago) and the people who go there are actually normal, not super-competitive nerds with absolutely no common sense like people in some of those top-end allopathic schools (who will most likely graduate will dollar signs in their eyes and commit malpractice because of their said lack of common sense)

It's ok. In a medical school interview, you NEVER want to mention that you have a parent, aunt, uncle, ect, that is a doctor. They'll think you are expecting some type of special treatment.

And Johns Hopkins won't accept anyone who had a science major. They like to see non science majors.

i understand that this perception of hopkins is out there (i had it too), and the interview experience is a lot like that - the difference, however, is that those are the people hopkins tries to avoid. I'm a student here now and cutthroat is the last word i'd use to describe the people in my class. Surprisingly, everyone is pretty laid back, sociable, and on the whole, pretty normal. and we're not all from private schools - hell, i went to UGA... also, Harvard is #1

I thought of this video each time sitting in the waiting room. All the conversation is the same. Boring questions like "Oh where did you go to school? I did study very hard, in fact I did almost nothing else in college. I went to a college with a highly prejudiced faculty who did not like minorities getting into graduate programs. By the grace of God, I will still realise my dream before I die, if not in America then somewhere else.

I regret coming to America because I am a foreigner but I come from a family that has trained many people in the medical and life science profession. God will make it possible. Amen.

Just to let you know. it is ILLEGAL for any school to discriminate in such a manner as you are claiming... and I highly doubt a college would risk the consequences of such actions. There are any number of reasons why you would have been rejected from medical schools. GPA, interview, MCAT scores. It is NOT uncommon for people to be rejected the first several times they apply to medical school.. black, white, asian, hispanic, middle eastern. Same boat. Don't make a racial issue when there is none.

Plenty of black people DO get into medical school. Fact: 2 applicants apply, same GPA, same MCAT scores, same resume. The black student will get preference OVER the white student simply because they are a minority. haha my interview at hopkins was so awkward. i thought that hopkins whole layout of the interview created the awkwardness ore than the people there. they actually evaluate people during the socializing part. It was the only school i know of that actually makes a point of making sure you play nice with others. i guess maybe thats because the people who often apply there don't?
