  • British Health System is awesome!

  • There you have it at first hand - right out of the mouth of an American living in the UK who has taken advantage of the parsiewworthy British National Health Service.....what he says is so true. I am British and have had a wonderful experience with the UK NHS....people in the UK do not fear becoming ill for lack of insurance cover and the huge cost as is the case in the USA. I could never live in the USA because of their lack of free healthcare and the very complicated insurance system there.

  • Average life expectancy in the UK = 80.1 years. Average life expectancy in the USA = 78.1 years. Need i say more!

  • They both have the exact same pair of glasses. Quite a coincidence :)

  • They both have the exact same pair of glasses. Quite a coincidence :)

  • @MrBloograss can you stop spamming nhs videos with your rubbish? I have a feeling you are lacking universal health care. You realise it also covers mental health as well?

  • Great Video.

  • Good to see the guy being interviewed giving a honesty appraisal of the UK, NHS and US healthcare very informative

  • I'm a conservative and I think the NHS is a good thing. Sure, it is imperfect, sure it can and shall be improved over time by whatever govts come along but really, improving the lives of people in your community and in your life is a cause worth paying tax for.

  • I wouldnt swap our NHS for any other system. Its one of the few things the UK can be proud of.

  • @Q3ToPBuZz well also the BBC and the Civil Service.

  • @shahideurope I agree about the BBC, as for the civil service, that depends of which part you are talking about. Anyway, as I said, one of the few things.

  • Also when you are on certain benefits, like JSA (Job Seekers Allowence) your prescriptions are free.

  • she died in a french hospital u twat

  • @deritpeehs nowadya when ever someone describes something as godless it makes me automatically think there perceptible to bullshit.

  • @deritpeehs What the fudge... lay off our NHS please. And Diana wasn't even in Britain, you dolt!

  • "Is the British Health Care System Really Better?"

Then Cuba? No, Cuba has a much better health system.

  • The quality of American healthcare is the best in the world - famous people, world leaders etc come to places like the Mayo clinic for treatment. The issue is just how unaffordable it is for the masses. Something must change.

  • @MissEgasMoniz So how can "The quality of American healthcare be the best in the world" it it only caters for the rich and famous? To have "quality" care must mean "quality" for all.

  • @davijeph You know what I meant - plus I also stated that the issue is having healthcare for all. Try again spud.

  • @MissEgasMoniz I'll try again "The quality of American healthcare is the best in the world" which for those that can afford it might possibly be true. It would also be true that if you are wealthy in any advanced economic Country you are all but guaranteed to get the best healthcare. When it comes to those lower down the financial pecking order compared to those same Countries the U.S comes out a piece of crap please see “the U.S. Healthcare system in international Context:” Regards from spud

  • @davijeph LOL - take care spud and remember to keep striving.

  • @MissEgasMoniz I always have, it's the British way (Ho! no it's not) .Regards from Spud.

  • @davijeph lol - Try and make sense next time spud.....I hope its the British way...but you keep proving its not - oh well! Carry on.

  • @MissEgasMoniz It makes sense you just have to have the brain to understand it. Regards from Spud

  • @MissEgasMoniz I apologise that was rude ,sorry. Regards from Spud.

  • My son got an MRI scan with within 48 hours and a gamma ray scan the same day.

  • is the camara hanging from one of those helium baloons

  • for God's sake KEEP THE FUCKING CAMERA STILL

  • I think the biggest thing that people get confused about is the response to a persons need for care, like this guy said if you turn up with the flu or something you can usually get in to see your GP on the same day. But what he didn't mention is that if you have an emergency you are always seen to straight away, that may seem obvious but it's amazing how many people think we have to wait days to get broken bones x-rayed.

  • I love how he says 'our taxes'

  • @AppleMaster1

he lives in UK, he works and pays taxes in the UK, so they are his taxes.

  • @JoshRobertson142 Yeah I know, and I like that he sees himself as a brit

  • There are no sales taxes on really essential items such as food bought in a supermarket, housing rents, domestic fuels (e.g. natural gas and electricity) or things such even kids clothing or even newspapers and books. There is a local taxes based on the value of the property you live in and how many adults live in the house with you. These pay for local services such as schools, fire, police, libraries and street lighting. Its quite a fair system.

  • His last comment about socialism was very telling. I've noticed ppl in America have some dogmatic fear equating socialism with communism. The NHS is socialist, no doubt. All tax is socialist!

You don't get to choose who enforces your law, or where the roads go, but I've never heard people complain that it's communist.

  • "you may have to wait 6 months to a year for an MRI" he mentioned you will DEFINITELY have to wait atleast 2 weeks...and u can change doctors but you are first "assigned" one? "buildings may not be new, may need a lick of paint"...NO. I want my damn bells and whistles when dealing with my health and i want whatever machines i need and whatever medical procedure i want! He clearly said it is paid for from taxes...raised taxes! this is ridiculous! why would you want this? sorry. Obama can keep it

  • Are all the hospital in the US new? No wonder you have the most expensive health system in the world but only 37th when it comes to overall actual healthcare UK 17th.You are a student so if you developed testicular cancer your insurance would cover you OK? Or would the cost of dealing with it ruin you, like medical costs do in the US to so many people even those with insurance?

  • They are not all new, but most all are nice and trustworthy. I am a student without healthcare. I have no coverage. I am vulnerable and in need of medical insurance, yet I dont want Obamas proposed bill. What does that tell u? It tells you that I believe my country is more important than myself. If America keeps crumbling in debt it wont matter what illness or cancer i have...The United States will ultimately suffer more from this bill than I ever will from the lack of insurance. Country b4 Self

  • @presidentfernatt In a great Country like yours you should be able to be a patriot and be covered for healthcare. The US's debts like the UK's have nothing to do with health costs but bad economic policies. You are no doubt a fine hardworking young man but having no medical cover? That cannot be right for you or America. It does not to diminish a Country to care for all it's citizens like many countries I am proud that we look after all citizens good ,bad or ugly they are all Brits.

  • @presidentfernatt because 35,000 people a year die in america from lack of the basic medical care they need. Simply because they cant afford health insurance or because their insurer has pointed to the small print and said "your not covered for that". The British health system (and all national health systems) is based on the assumption that everybody should contribute to the well being of their fellow countrymen - & the U.S. is supposed to be more Christian etc than the UK. go figure.

  • @presidentfernatt I've never known anyone wait that long for MRI, I think hes confused. I got an MRI scan in less than a week. Initially you register with a GP, family doctor, the office assigns you a particular doctor from that office, if you don't like them, you can change, you can go to a different office if you want, you can change with out even meeting them. You can still go private over here if you want. Some buildings are older, but clean, modern on the inside.

  • This guy is good, but he's wrong about the price of prescriptions. Drugs cost the same regardless they don't charge you based off the drug you use even for specialized drugs. The only thing that will cost you more is a wig or other appliances. There is a flat fee. We also have some of the most advanced equipment in the world on top of that no one waits a year for treatment. Please...

  • I'm not sure why so many brits are offended by US citizens not wanting government run healthcare. It's not that most of us think NHS is bad, it's just that in America the gov't simply cannot be trusted with something as important as healthcare. Everytime the US government takes something over the quality decreases drastically! Department of Education anyone? I dont think anyone in the US would argue that our healthcare is good, haha, we all know its bad, we just dont want our gov't to run it.

  • Speak for yourself...I know that our government has dropped the ball on a lot of things in this country, namely the education system...You possibly believe that it is okay for over 50 million American citizens to be without health care....The dollar drives everything..From who gets the best education and who doesn't to who lives and who dies....Its a disgrace...

  • Being Brit and a supporter of our NHS the positives of such a system far outweigh the negatives, I can see that from a cultural standpoint to many Americans are anti government by birthright. While I do not pretend to understand the fact remains to many Americans do not like the idea of a government run healthcare system. However it should not be beyond the wit of a great nation like the US to find a unified system that covers the health care needs of all with bankrupting the individual.

  • DLBanks43 do you have a job? I do think that it is ok for 50 million Americans to go without healthcare it is not my job to pay for peoples healthcare that are unwilling to buy it themselves for whatever reason. A decent healthcare plan cost $50 a month. If you have a job you can afford that. People are not ENTITLED to things they have not earned! We can not be responsible for how every single American chooses to live his life, nor can we afford to be.

  • @Tobrwa Good God! I *wish* you could get decent healthcare plan for $50 a month. That would save me $325 ( not counting dental that's another $78)

Sure, I'm not getting the cheapest option my company offers, I'm getting what I need.

Man, if you only pay $50 bucks please let me know how you are managing it cause *I wanna know*!!!

  • @Tobrwa Well what if they can't afford it? What if they are temporarily unemployed through no fault of their own and cannot get health coverage? Are you proposing these people suffer when their only fault is simply being unlucky? I can't imagine living in America with the healthcare system as it is.

  • @Tobrwa The British probably take offense at the NHS being insulted and lied about by radicals in the USA. The USA has government healthcare, medicaid, medicare and soldiers receive government healthcare. It is that Americas system is flawed and under achieves. Life expectancy in the UK is longer than the USA, infant mortality is lower in the UK than the USA.

  • You are correct the USA already has several government run programs, and they are all massive failures. Non of them are self sufficient like they were first intended to be and all of them provide low quality services. However I would disagree that the American system is flawed, but rather subsystems within the American system. Fortunately the American system allows for us to try new things like medicaid and medicare and then to repeal them if they are not working. They do "work" just not well.

  • @Tobrwa The USA now has full health cove, so you have it now.

  • your arguement is completely wrong. maggie thatcher our version of regan privatised dental care and fucked it up because people can't afford to go private. Was much better when is was 100% under the NHS

  • I don't know a single working person in the United States that cannot afford $50 a month for private healthcare.

  • Well, that's not true is it, there are charges for dental even if you have a NHS dentist why did you feel the need to insult and use foul language?I,m 67 and have all 32 ,my own dentist who some years ago worked in the USA for a time and enjoyed the country and people but missed the UK,s weather (joke) tells me American dentistry is for the most part some years ahead of the UK but again on average their teeth are in no better condition than the UK because to many people cannot afford dentistry.

  • Gun laws, football and healthcare are better in the UK. Everything else is better in the USA.

  • Hmm, not at all a rash comment you weirdo

  • GUN LAWS BETTER!!!??? It's the fucking wild west in the USA. I prefer being able to shoot home intruders. Remember, when seconds counts, police are only minutes away. My .45, however, is right by my side. I love our gun laws! Your healthcare is better though, but it wouldn't work in the US. Our politicians are crooks.

  • shit iv'e been stuck in Ohio for 13 years wish to god I could go back to the UK

  • Well they're not doing a very good job now, maybe if you had to pay for it it would be properly funded and teeth FIXING could happen.

  • Did the state you live in fund your electric wheelchair? Don't talk about something you haven't got a clue about, that's ignorant.

  • haha, calm down I was kidding, I'm not interested in a "my countries better then yours" argument.

  • It's not going to come to that. By the looks of things we're both fucked with this recession anyways. Way we're going we'll all be in tents with RED CROSS written on them by Christmas.

  • Ain't that just the sad truth, hmmm, well hopefully his holy highness Obama can do something ahaha, but seriously hope he does.

  • Health care yeah, but dental NO

  • dude, here in america we suck in healthcare and over priced dental. our healthcare system is pathetic.

  • USA poor people have dreadful teeth, they never show their poor on TV in the USA.

  • WHOAH! $15 for prescriptions? I can live with the British system. I mean the Right wing nuts complain about the most unreasonable stuff. "If we get Socialized Healthcare, you will have to wait in long lines." How about you schedule your appointment in advance and quit going to the doctor for stupid shit. Also, I was in a car accident and needed to be in an emergency room, waited 35 MINUTES in the lobby before they put me in the ER! This was a hospital in Kentucky.
