im in a war now (of arguments) and i found this, i said it "everything is real an unreal, everything is true and false, its a matter of perspective" (me) and its similar to this and yet different as i said "its a matter of perspective XD
Are you seeking the ultimate truth? Search for "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then click on "The Present" to open it. It is not what you think it is.
There are more experiences than just through sight and touch; there are experiences in the mind too such as pain, pleasure, dreams, moods, and the process of remembering or mentally visualizing things. Those, in a way, are also a part of reality.
It's pretty much a full-time job. It requires your full attention and focus, or as much as you can possibly manage. One of the most important things one has to see is that you can't "learn" the Truth from anyone else, even if they turn out to be a source of very useful data. Philosophy is not like science in this sense. We must each re-invent the wheel. Of course, that doesn't prevent those who have done so from being that helpful source of data. That's what this channel strives to be.
Well I would sound cliched if i said that reality is relative, on perceiving my environment when u suggest this on ur video i happened 2 perceive my computer, and various stationary.
If we teach ourselves 2 perceive all things with indifference or without pre judge/concept like reactions, how human and real would that be?
So does this then mean that when and if our level of consciousness reaches a level where it trenscends emotions n the like that we will no longer be as we are?
Luv ur work n this video! I think the problem with a lot of people is that they expect reality to be more of something different to something simple.
Also the fact that they r goin in circles like myself looking 4 answers hurts their ego.
Quite frankly i believe most people searching wouldn't know what the altimate realite/ truth was if it hit them on their head, and it does this all day long.
Like the Dalai Lama says if ur 2 smart u miss the point. There r 2 many spanners!
Man, I really loved this video. Especially the part about "reinventing the wheel". The thing is just as you said, I can't simply accept tathata, I must first understand it, then realize it for myself.
...Good video, though. It's a correct teaching and effectively presented. No quibbles about the content. I'm glad you highlight the essential paradox in this sort of thing - you have to pursue intellect as far is it will go to get beyond intellect. Just skipping to the end-point of spontaneous engagements doesn't work, because we aren't cows or catfish.
I think "easy" is a misleading term here. Intellectual realizations are easy, as you suggest. But applying those realizations to one's experience and therefore embodying them is the tricky part, of course. Nobody wants to do that because it involves being willing to sacrifice everything up to and including one's concept of "self."
Fair enough comment. I agree about the part that's difficult, but even some of the intellectual realisations can be tough. I've known lots of people who can't rap their head around A=A, for example. My next two vids will address some of the difficulties to which you allude.
I have no academic credentials. Like Nietzsche, I look upon academic philosophy as a fly would upon a spider's web. I have a mind that can think. That's all that anyone needs, aside from the will and desire to use that mind.

I'm a young black woman. I wish there were more minorities and women who were into this field of thinking like me.

Dear Dan,
What you said in this video about the "the philosophic work to understand something" its true Completely true.
There are things that I believe by reason -- things that I read and "understand". However, I do not believe it by heart.
Maybe I must try hard (like in a battle) to acquire that knowledge for myself.
The philosophic work to understand the Truth seems to be a full time job.
Sincerely,
German

There are indeed too many spanners, but it is also true that even though Reality is right in front of you, it can be hard to see with true eyes.

Oh man! I wish I wasn't slow-minded to understand the whole point of all this.

...or rather, I should say: I must understand that I can't understand it.

I can't discern an argument in that. Do you deal in actual arguments or just hand-waving? I'd like to know why you hold this opinion. Seriously.

Ok, thanks for the answer, which appears to be: "I do hand-waving".

"hey, over here! NO! ov-er HERE! *waving hand*.... THIS VID IS A PILE OF COW PUCKY!"..... LOL

Do you even know what hand-waving is? Anyway, you've rather clearly declared that hand. Goodbye.

Yes, not doing the intellectual work means resting in beliefs, and there's too much of that sort of thing on the planet as it is.
Thanks for the comments. Glad you're enjoying the channel.

Another very interesting and eyeopening video. BTW what is your background in philosophy, are you a university lecturer or teacher perhaps?
