maybe this world would be a better place if all you bible thumpers would either read the damn thing or put it down... ACCEPT, LOVE, and CARE for EVERYONE not just the people you are comfortable with....
I truly agree with all of you. We who accept God savation thru the gift of His Son's death and resurrection and ascension into heaven, ARE GOD's Children..... Only thru Jesus whom we have accepted. Where was Zella?
This Song is I'm His Child. You can find it on the Say Amen Somebody soundtrack. I can email it to who ever needs It. I love this song.l And I read this play a while back for a theatre class. It is an awesome work
Zella Jackson-Price is a well known gospel singer and this is her signature song. She grew up with the gospel greats like Mother Ford Smith, etc. The drag queen in the flim does a good job of lipsynching the words. Thanks to Zella for lending her voice to this uplifing movie.
Flotilla DeBarge played this scene and it caught me off guard also ! yet , i understand the context and the meaning they attempted with this moment . Thank you " Angels In America " !
The disappointing thing is that there's so little of the real Zella Jackson-Price out there. Did she ever do an album or CD? She is among the greats, but I wish there were more recordings of her. The cast of gospel stars in "Say Amen Somebody" is amazing and she sure can hold her own among them.
Yes. She has an LP called "ZELLA". The subtitle is "Say A Little Prayer," which is also the "hit song" on the album. The album was released in 1981.
I came on here to find that song so that I could attach it to an email. I have the album but not the technology to put it on my computer. Does anyone know where I can find, "Say A Little Prayer" online?
It's a song, and it deserves to be heard by anyone who wants to hear it, performed by anyone who wants to perform it. That's why we are free people.
Morality doesn't own anything, and nobody owns morality.
If I want to dress up like a zombie and lip-sync to Amazing Grace, who are you to tell me I'm wrong?
Point of the scene in this movie is to show a character who wanted celebration around his death, and it says a lot about him even though he's never on screen

Song isn't a religion but a song is a representation of the religion. The person singing the song is also a representation. This is not a representation of Christianity or someone who is a child of God.
A person is only a child of God when they accept Jesus Christ as his or her Lord and Savior. Jesus says this to the Pharisees in the gospel of John. We are all God's creation, but not everyone is God's child...I know this goes against the present day Hollywood religion and politically incorrect...but I don't lean on America for my Faith, Theology, or Moral and Ethical Values. To believe otherwise is to call Jesus a liar and that I will not do...you and others are free to do so...
@MethodistPreacher Seriously, I don't think a literal interpretation is even necessary because it shows how idiotic a person of faith can be... And I know you're not an idiot who interpret the Bible word for word so cut the shenanigan.
@MethodistPreacher Apparently not, why lean on 21st century America when you can lean on 5th century BC Judea where selling your Daughter into slavery, killing your children for disobediance and viewing women as subhuman is so much better! By the way, I'm an atheist who doesn't believe Jesus was a liar, he was either a lunatic or he never existed at all--which you cannot dispute because you were not there.
The original recording was done during the make of "Say, Amen" a documentory done in the early 80"s. I feature Willie Mae Ford Smith, Thomas A. Dorsey, The Barrett Sister, The O'Neal Twins and Zella Jackson Price. Zella's performance was on You Tube some months ago, but was removed about two months ago. Just an FYI.
PS. I have the "Say, Amen" movie DVD and the CD. I love all the song on both. Love!!
well i dunno who this zella person is... but Yes this is not the original zella, its a funeral for one of the glitter queens of NY in the AMAZING movie angels in america. Such a joy to listen to this song!
Where's the rest of it? Also, is this dubbed? I saw Zella Jackson Price sing this in "Say Amen, Somebody" from 1982 and unless she changed a great deal, this is not her in the video.

I'm mad at how they took zella jackson-price's voice and dubbed over this in the movie. This is not what she represented, in my opinion.

We are not all God's children. We are all God's creature. However the lady that is real voice you hear is a Child of God. I know her very well.

@Bigmusic25 I don't think it was a literal interpretation ... nothing ever is... Wonderful song though.
